I'd already done a geology post for an Australia video but Quarbit deleted and reuploaded that video but forgot to send me the original version of the message and I couldn't be bothered re-researching and rewriting it so this is a slightly abridged version. I'm Australian so I'm also going to include some general Australia facts amongst the rock stuff. - Australia's most recent mainland volcanic eruptions were at Mt Gambier in South Australia only 4500 years ago, which makes its volcanic province, the Newer Volcanics Province (which is mostly in Victoria) a geologically active volcanic region and there's no reason why it couldn't have an eruption six months from now (that's unlikely though). - Australia has actively erupting volcanoes, just not on the mainland. Australia's tallest mountain outside of Antarctica, Big Ben on the territory of Heard Island, is a highly active volcano and absolutely stunning. Something like 90% of Heard Island is covered in glaciers. - Australia has snow fields and ski resorts in the southeastern mountains in the winter. - Mt Kosciuszko, our tallest mainland mountain, is taller than Iceland's tallest mountain, Hvannadalshnúkkur (2228 m vs 2110 m). - While the oldest known surface rocks are probably either in the Nuvvuagituq Greenstone Belt in Quebec or the Acasta Gneiss in Northwest Territories ^, the oldest known mineral in the world is from the Jack Hills in Western Australia. A zircon crystal was found to have an age of 4,408 ± 8 million years (so around 4.4 billion years old-for context, the whole Earth is around 4.54 billion years old). Zircons are an igneous mineral (so they form in molten rock underneath volcanoes) and are very hardy so they can be erupted, get eroded out of the lava, be subducted, get used in a new melt and gain new layers without being destroyed, and since their structure is great at including uranium but terrible at including lead (the main radiation decay product of uranium) they're very useful for dating rocks. This particular zircon was found in a sedimentary rock thought to be about 3 billion years old (it's hard to tell, the zircon only tells the age of its igneous deposition and the sedimentary rock has been repeatedly deformed and metamorphised so it's a little unclear). - Prime Minister Harold Holt disappeared while swimming in rough waters off the coast of my state on 17 December, 1967. It's presumed that he drowned. At the time, there was a recreation centre being renovated in his electorate and on 16 March 1969, the Harold Holt Memorial Swimming Centre reopened. - I have rocks in my bedroom that are quite literally over a million times older than the USA (I picked some of them up on farms in Victoria's Buchan Valley and they contain fossils from just under 400 million years ago; some that are over two million times older than the USA at over 600 million years old come from a station near Blinman in South Australia's Flinders Ranges). - This isn't a very fun fact, rather depressing actually: before colonisation, there were over 250 Indigenous languages in Australia (perhaps closer to 400), but today just over a hundred remain and less than a dozen of those are still being passed on to children; the rest are near extinction. Every language in Tasmania was exterminated completely. - There is a single antivenom in Australia that works for the venom of every single native venomous snake. - Between 2001 and 2017, there were 541 animal-related deaths in Australia. 172 of those deaths were caused by horses (mostly people falling off), 82 by cattle (mostly either people being trampled or involving vehicular collisions), 53 by dogs. The deadliest native animal was kangaroos at 37 deaths, all of which involved a collision with a vehicle (in 20 of those cases, the vehicle was a motorbike). There were 37 snake-related deaths, 31 bee-related deaths, 27 shark-related deaths and 21 crocodile-related deaths (15 of the crocodile-related deaths happened in Northern Territory and 6 happened in Queensland, and often happened when people went into watering holes or creeks and ignored very visible signs warning of crocodile danger). There were no spider-related deaths, and there has not been a spider bite death since 1979. - There used to be a dialect of German local to an area of South Australia. Barossa German (Barossadeutsch) developed as a distinct dialect from German immigrants and their descendants in the Barossa Valley and towns in the surrounding Adelaide Hills such as Hahndorf. After the onset of WW1, the Australian government discouraged the use of German, and by the end of the century the dialect had ceased to exist. - Before he became prime minister, former prime minister Scott Morrison defecated in his pants outside a Maccas in the Sydney suburb of Engadine on the evening of 20 September 1997 after his rugby team the Cronulla Sharks lost the Grand Final. - There are four different codes of football popular in Australia. Soccer has a small but significant following, mostly amongst immigrants from Italy and the Balkans; rugby league and rugby union are mostly popular in the states of Queensland and New South Wales and in the Australia Capital Territory (where Canberra is), with rugby union being more popular amongst private school students; Australian rules football (AFL) is popular in the rest of the country. However, you do get fans of rugby in the rest of the country, and fans of AFL in QLD/NSW/ACT. With the exception of a small group of soccer fanatics, people from QLD/NSW/ACT will mean rugby when they say the word "football" and people from the rest of the country will mean AFL when they say "football" (for the record for me, football = AFL). If you have any questions about rocks or about Australia, feel free to ask. ^ The Acasta Gneiss is probably older, but there's an unresolved uncertainty about the age of the Nuvvuagituq Greenstone Belt which means that it *may* be older (though that's unlikely).

I love how Scott Morrison's legacy is the Engadine Macca's Incident. Knowledge of that event will be passed down generation after generation.

Actually, I can correct you on one count. It’s a commonly repeated statement that Tasmania’s indigenous were wiped out and so was their languages, but there are still dozens of languages that are currently being standardised in the language of Palawakani
@Osariik
@Osariik 2 месяца назад
@@chiveschivian9965 None of those languages survived as more than fragmentary word lists-Palawa Kani is an attempted reconstruction from those wordlists, but it’s not actually any of the original languages themselves. E We don’t know enough about any of the original languages to fully reconstruct them like that. Some of the original languages may not even have been related to each other.

Just an FYI for anybody who wants to play like this and get the Australia-Hungary achievement. To complete the achievement your tag has to be Australia (or one of the starting Australian natives), uniting your federation changes your tag away from that so you're not eligible anymore. The only way to get around this is to somehow change your tech group so you'll be able to Form the Australia tag. One way to do that is forming a nation like Rajputana that puts you in the Indian group.

I also had my final IB exams last year around this time. It was hell and i barely made it out, but over a year later I've already gotten to do things I would have never even dreamed of.. none of which even needed an IB diploma. Don't beat yourself up too much, it's not worth it.

0:21 tried the strat from the first vide and there's a weird oversight the Devs made. Once you unite your federation it offers you to either get a new governament or keep your OG and get 50 admin. If you decide to take the 50 admin the event keeps firing over and over until the age of discovery ends. Roughly once every 3 years. So tons of free admin mana.
@DylanSargesson
@DylanSargesson 2 месяца назад
That event's MTTH is 12 months and is not limited to only the Age of Discovery - you can continue to get it until as long as you still have "Clan Council" as your T1 Government Reform.

While china has had a bigger population than most other states of its time, i believe that the real population explosion happened post columbian exchange, with the introduction of potatoes in the largely hilly areas that proved hardier and more reliable than rice crops
