*TURNING RED* is BETTER than ENCANTO (Movie Reaction)

I felt bad for Sang Yee as well. She bestowed a gift for her family but all of them kept rejecting it. She finally found someone of her blood line accepting her gift. Look how happy she was in the end ❤️

21:25 Just a couple of fun facts: Notice how the aunts and the grandma had their pandas stored inside jade jewelry. It is actually extremely terrible luck to shatter a jade artifact. So the fact that they instantly did that for their family says quite a lot actually in the final moments of the ritual. Also, when the grandma gets her panda put inside a 4Town keychain, the number four in the Chinese language literally is associated with the Chinese word for "death." It goes so far that buildings in Asia do not build fourth floors or label them as the fourth floors. Buildings will literally go from the third floor to the fifth. That's why she expresses, "So unlucky" in a disgusted tone at the finale. XD

Btw, here's just how many period jokes there actually were: Gross red monster. The way she's walking stiffly when she's in her bedroom? I can confirm that's how we walk when we're trying not to move too much to prevent...an "accident". "Prevent any accidents." Curling up in the fetal position because it hurts. You can even make a case for the extreme emotions thing, cause a lot of us can attest that extreme emotions tend to make it...worse, let's say. And the friends neutralizing the panda? A way to show that having friends around to help you through it when you have an "accident" can make it less embarrassing.

definitely agree, this movie is just done better overall, its more focused and gets its message across, its more fun, less pretentious, less singing thats just taking too long for little exposition, its animated so well, the overall concept is cooler, it feels more fresh, its more creative, I admit that Encanto is a good movie, but this one has the edge :)

It's such a shame that Turning Red wasn't released in theaters since Pixar was actually hoping that this would mark their return to the big screen. At least their next film, Lightyear, is confirmed to be a theatrical release, ending Pixar's underwhelming pandemic year.

Honestly, while I think Encanto is fantastical, magical, and a wonderful film. ✨ I love Turning Red a bit more for the accuracy and relatability it gives for weird teenage girls (myself included) it's the most unique Pixar film and sets itself apart from others that came before it and I love that. ❤ Also, the new profile pic is great and I can't unsee you being related with Robaire from 4*Town now lol 😂😂

this movie is soo good. I totally agree with the title because its funnier and people just like Encanto because of the music but the plot isn't as good or doesn't really connect with some people.

I think Mei's mom has the biggest panda, because she was first generation Canadian and hit with the biggest culture clash. I think she was stuck between two worlds. I also think there is a beautiful symbolism in her panda being to big to handle...but in a way she took that on so Mei wouldn't have to. Those are my musings anyway.

I know Mei isn't going through that, but pretty much everything about this movie is an analogy for period symptoms: Being smelly (menstrual cycles change your body's chemistry and can make you smelly in places that aren't just "down there.") Her jiggly tummy (bloat that frequently happens during menstruation.) Curling up in the fetal position (some of us do it to ease cramping or because it hurts so bad.) Intense mood swings bring the panda out, and emotional outbursts include anger and sadness/hopelessness/loneliness or isolation, such as when Mei tried to forcibly subdue the panda before she let her friends see her, and she felt ashamed because she thought her mom was ashamed of her. This is often accompanied by lots of crying or angrily lashing out at people. (emotions don't cause periods, but rather the other way around. They ARE hard to control, though.) Awkwardness (anything new and changes to your body that seem to happen overnight are always a shock, we often hate the changes, and they often take getting used to.) The stiff squat-walk Mei does when her tail pops out in the hallway after Kevin mocks her (we often do this if it feels like we're about to leak on ourselves and we're trying to avoid it.) Having a supportive friend/group of friends makes it way easier. (Support groups help with everything you can imagine, and periods are no exception. It would be awesome if a girl having an emergency could go up to someone else, whether they're a girl or not, and ask for help without shame of what's happening to her.) The only way to survive it isn't to suppress it but learn to live with it. In Mei's dad's (Jin's) words, "People have all kinds of sides to them. And some sides are messy. The point isn't to push the bad stuff away. It's to make room for it, live with it." (This is exactly what we can apply to our friends/family, and to our own bodies when it comes to puberty.)

Wholly agree about the title statement. I think it's generally better written. Has less stakes perhaps but this is what made the whole potential better used. Simpler but not less difficult to handle, yet it did it's job. Encanto has some issues in the writing, between plot, some lack of coherence with what's told, wanted to be addressed and what's shown, and the portrayal and execution of some scenes. Still enjoyable, but I think Turning Red is generally has more humility in its pretenses while doing its job at its best. Just like Luca

I enjoyed Turning Red more than Encanto. Encanto had too many characters to keep track of and a plot that was overly complicated. Even though I am a guy, I still related to this movie since my sister is nine years younger than me and I am familiar with what she went through "coming of age." I read that the director offered Pixar's management several different proposals for stories and they picked the most outrageous one -- Turning Red. They picked right! Wonderful movie.

Turning Red is good, no questions asked... but Encanto might actually be my no.1 fave Disney movie nowadays (a spot Lion King 1 and 2 both combined held for the last 25 years or so)

I feel like Encanto has a story in which everyone as a whole can relate to. In my opinion, turning red is a message towards young women in their puberty stages. So that is why I like Encanto more. Don't get me wrong, turning red is a pretty good movie but it is somewhat overrated? Encanto has a balance in it. And I can see why some people say Encanto is also overrated (cause of the Bruno song).
