To me, this song perfectly encapsulates the feeling of a roaring, Midwest thunderstorm blowing in. To me, the lyrics paint such a beautiful image of which I can relate! I Can almost feel the warm summer air slowly being replaced by a chilly wind out of the West, followed by a darkening of the sky. Then the loss of power! I could go on and on!
This is an amazing song. Hits close to home especially because I was born and raised in north Texas and have had a tornado hit my home town (Rowlett, 2015). Growing up with that weather is unsettling and the eerie melody and lyrics give me the chills. Paints the perfect picture for a tornado song. Fantastic song

Eric Weldon maybe tv was on mono or setting was off. I made the comment after watching it on my TV not from this RU-vid video. I watch Miranda Lambert on Austin City Limits on my sync TV and I could hear the steel just fine but with Turnpike it was like it was almost off. So maybe it was not the sound man but my TV
