It's so wonderful that you were able to help so many people all summer with a car. You are very sweet people!

Thank you for that! People really were excited to get a van when there were none available. I had lost sight of that a bit. Thanks for the reminder Michelle!

I’m a Turo host in Texas! Texas is a big state as well, I place a 250 mile cap per day. For unlimited mileage I charge a fee. If a guest goes over I charge. I once had someone drive from El Paso to New Orleans, back to San Antonio in three days. Total of 2000 miles. I made more on mileage than the actual rental at $0.56 a mile. I have two vehicles on there, I try not to spend more than 30 miles prep my vehicle to go out. My second guest on Turo damaged the rear hatch door to my Sienna. Turo was quick to cover the damage.

All very interesting! We did set the 250 mile a day limit but no one drove more than that. Thanks for your input!

Great information! I was curious how this personal car rental thing all worked. I had to chuckle when you all said you were shocked that people put over 1000 miles on the car because we usually put 2500-3000 on our rentals up there in just over 2 weeks. You may be able to rent yours out again at a high rate next summer too because oh my word this car shortage is still an issue. We usually book our car rental for our yearly Alaska trip shortly after we return home. I’ve been watching and waiting to book because the rates are still over $2000 for a 2 week rental😱

We are interested to see what happens with the car rentals next year. As you know Alaska is huge so it's really not such a big surprise but I am so used to staying put for a week at a time when I camp that I forget that people who travel want to try and see it all. I will be interested to hear if you see a drop or if it stays the same. Have a wonderful weekend!

My husband’s car was having transmission problems this summer and I looked into renting a car and the prices were outrageous! We ended up getting to drive my mom’s Prius because she had a surgery and couldn’t drive. I don’t know what we would have done without my mom.

Hello Myra! That is so hard to be without a car. Glad you found a solution that worked out!

What a nice service you were able to provide! How did you know that this service existed?

HI Kim, I am not sure where I heard about it but once I heard about it I reached out to my cousins, They have 4 cars/vans that they rent out. They had good reviews about it so we decided to go ahead and try. Not sure if we will do it again but it was a good experience and best of all, I got my 12 passenger van, which I love!

What an interesting thing to do. I’ve never heard of it. Maybe people could put limits on miles or a charge for over so many miles. That’s a lot to put on a car. I’m glad you shared this. I think I’d pass on doing this, too much work! 😄
@ThisAlaskaLife
@ThisAlaskaLife 3 года назад
You can set a limit, but the lowest it allows you to do is 200 miles a day, which really adds up! It was a lot of work but it worked out! I was glad when it was done!

What an interesting experience. Holy smokes 1200miles=2128km l drive Max 10,000 km per year and Australia is spread out!!! That's alot, did these people not stop and sleep or eat it? seems they did a drive thru trip of Alaska😆 OK we all love to say how cute Everett is but can we just appreciate Mark in his professional attire, now l know where your kids get their good looks from, Dad is one polished looking Man🤩 Those tree car scents🍓, what person ever thought they are a good idea, l also cannot tolerate the smell and have had to ask Uber drivers to kindly pop it away as it gives me the worst headache so l hear you. Thankyou so much for sharing this experience with us, great tips👍

That is exactly what I was thinking with the driving...did they even stop anywhere and actually enjoy it?? The drive is pretty but the real fun comes when you stop and stay in one place for a few days, anyways, they didn't ask me! You made me LOL with your comments about Mark, he does always look nice when he goes to work! The strawberry thing smelled so awful to me, couldn't get it out of there fast enough! Thanks for watching!

The car rental companies couldn't keep up! We had people who had their car canceled 3 days before their trip! Can you imagine, having your trip to Alaska all planned and they cancel your car rental!!! I was glad we could help them out.

Hello that nice to rent out your car but it seem hard on your car mileage.😙🤗
@ThisAlaskaLife
@ThisAlaskaLife 3 года назад
Hello Margaret, it was many more miles than we anticipated but we are still glad we did it. Several people that rented the car had their reservation canceled by the other car rental companies and this allowed them to still come to Alaska for their trip. Thanks for watching!

Hello, I am new to your channel and am enjoying your vlogs. I do have a question for you and I only ask this because my husband was killed by a drunk driver 3 years ago. Are you guys protected from the possibility of some one driving your vehicle under the influence. I live in Michigan and if you let someone drive your vehicle and they are under the influence you can get in trouble to. I am not sure about Alaska, but am curious if the law is different.
@ThisAlaskaLife
@ThisAlaskaLife 3 года назад
Hello Cathy! I am so sorry to hear about your husband, what a hard thing to go through. Much love and prayers for you! AND that is a very good question, I am not sure what the laws are or how that would work with us renting out the car. I will have to look into that!
