Similar to Mortal Kombat, Turok made a name of its own by teasing with people's reactions to violent, splashy crimson effusions. RDA handled the launch of Turok Evolution by toying with this very primal tool: blood. Because we love it.
I remember seeing this when I was little and being shocked that they it was allowed to be showed on TV. Probably followed shortly thereafter by "COOL! MOM CAN I BUY THIS?!"
I assume the game promised more than it should in the trailers. I think it's a good game, it just didn't live up to the hype. Still doesn't mean the game is terrible.
There was also a full trailer based around these ads, depicting footage from the ads where the unfortunate victims are attacked by dinosaurs before the text "FIGHT BACK" appears on screen, leading to a pretty badass action montage. Of course, what gamers ended up getting in Turok Evolution was a lacklustre fourth entry with dire PS2 and PC ports, awful enemy AI, pathetic boss fights, dreadful Pterosaur levels and a weak story compared to the original trilogy, serving as a franchise killer for the series barring an ill-fated revival until the Night Dive remasters of the first two (now complete original trilogy) made it popular again. The "Smell of Blood" trailer was incredibly awesome though, it sure fooled me despite me being familiar with the game's reputation!
the man stubs his toe on a sprinkler and it's bleeding but Oh oh the dinosaurs are back from the dead it's a wonderful date between a girl and a boy and the boy cuts his hand on the swing but Oh oh the dinosaurs are back from the dead again
