For those concerned that R3 and L3 cannot be mapped to the back buttons. I received this message from Turtle Beach today. "We are currently in the process of preparing a firmware update for the Turtle Beach Stealth Ultra that will add L3 and R3 as mappable input selections."
Love to see that they care props to them hopefully more stuff like keyboard binds, macros and more importantly full rebind functionality of all buttons comes eventually, it would then be better then the elite on the software side of things for those stuck on Xbox without the ability to use wasd etc.
glad to see they are fixing that, since i do bind both of those to paddles on my elite2, and this was going to be a deal breaker for me... (sprint/ADS zoom and crouch on apex)
This shows how absolutely complex these controllers have gotten. I remember the only options growing up were an official controller or a third party store brand one that was always inferior to the official one. Now we have combinations of software, addons, configurations, connection methods…
Your reviews mean a lot to me as I’ve been looking to get a pro controller myself. That being said this controller seems to really grab my attention so thank you
I'm a big fan of extended thumbsticks, being a racing sim player... I felt like this didn't match the Elite Series 2 😕. Can't wait for your teardown on the 3!!
You can bind LSB and RSB on the Elite controllers to the paddles. This is useful when you run a tactical layout in shooters as you crouch typically by pressing RSB. Allows drop shotting to be easier. I was very surprised to see you can’t bind them on this controller. TB even shows on their site that you can. So not sure what’s going on but it’s annoying. I may return the controller for now.
Brother, I love your channel. You da man! Just an FYI the website actually says the following regarding Bluetooth connectivity: "Connections Wireless USB-A Transmitter: Xbox, Windows PCs Bluetooth®: Android Devices, Windows PCs & supported Smart TVs with Bluetooth® Wired: USB-A Wired Connection to Xbox, and Windows PCs" I had to look because I want to use this to hotswap between my steam deck and pc. PC will have the dongle and Steam Deck I'm hoping to connect to via Bluetooth. Really hope they didn't make a booboo on their page because this is a big deal for me lol Thanks for your work, man.
Nice review update mate. The l3 r3 binding works on the cheaper react controllers so seems abit strange that its not a function on this beast of a controller i bet they will update it soon.
I play siege and you lean with the left and right stick clicks when ads (they are soon adding ability to lean without ads similar to how it is on pc). The left and right stick click programed to the paddles has the bonus of being the run key and the knife key as well when not ads which is actually a huge bonus and can be detrimental in some instances lol. I use 3 paddles LS RS and B in siege. This controller would be the best console siege controller if they had sticks programable to the back buttons. Unfortunately, the elite series 2 is still holding that position as this controller doesn't have the sticks programable. I'd have bought this if it did. Siege is a great game give it a go if you've never tried it.
@@Shmoinki3 Interesting, how do you like leaning and shooting at the same time? Does the fact that you lean with bumpers prevent you from leaning while shooting? I've known only a few ppl who changed their bumpers to shoot, and they preferred it as they have mouse click bumpers on their controller.
Yeah I agree with you. Very surprising to see people care about binding their l3 and r3. Makes especially no sense for l3 when the shooter your playing has automatic sprint as an option.
I use four rear buttons and also bind my RS and LS buttons to them. Being able to sprint mid strafes and able to keep my aim on target without accidental melees makes a difference. Works for me in Halo but not sure for other titles..
The ability to map the back buttons to L3/R3 is now available, but this is not reflected in the software on the PC. I did not check the console software. It is available to map through the screen on the controller. Firmware 1.0.4 is the firmware update you're looking for.
I accidentally found your channel about a month ago. Well, you've saved me a shit ton of money when looking at controllers! Thanks, man! My credit card also thanks you too.
Been using Elite 2 for the past couple years, I think I’ll have to go to Best Buy and see how the Turtle Beach back button layout feels. I really love the layout of the Elite 2 paddles, Turtle Beach (and virtually anyone else’s) layout seems awkward.
@@varunaXno it’s not 😂 I’ve had 10 replaced elite controllers due to insane stick drift. This controller is night and day. Absolute 0 stick drift, controller is much lighter, buttons are easier to press etc.
Nope I have never had to replace my elite controller most if yall don't take care of your controllers and seem to have rage problems and hit and smash your controller
@@alikhan-mk2le hahaha you must be the only person on the planet then, congratulations, go stick the lottery on 👍🏼 I got 10 replacements back to back and every single one had awful stick drift straight out the box
Many change the bind from thumb sticks to paddles to avoid pressing down by accident, this is something common with top players on certain fps games. That's why games like cod put the bind such as sprint/focus by default on sticks as it shouldn't interfere if accidentally pressed in the heat of the moment. Tons of other reasons as well for swapping binds when you look at correct layouts to keep both fingers on the sticks at all times which can't be achieved in many games without a controller that has binding flexibility.
@@Lesoyskrr totally forgot about this, yeah that is giant further reason this controller is a miss. no ability to rebind anything other then paddles or deactivate sticks is not very a pro controller.
Always interested in xbox controllers but this 1 to me is next level. Other companies have to now pick up there game. Great follow up, thank you... "👍"...
You can also leave the dongle plugged into the dock and plug the dock in the Xbox and just use the controller wireless there.i honestly feel like that’s the best way. You know only can keep the dock plugged in ready to charge something and you keep yourself from losing the dongle cuz it’s always plugged into the dock and you can still use it wireless with the controller and Xbox..
I returned one of my Turtle Beach Stealth ultra, it came with a factory drift in the R3, in the end I bought another control of the same to take full advantage of the control, so be careful if someone comes out with the same problem. Yo devolví uno de los mis Turtle Beach Stealth ultra, venia con un drift de fabrica en el R3, al final adquirí otro control de los mismos para poder aprovechar el máximo del control, para que tengan cuidado si a alguien le sale con el mismo problema.
I got one yesterday, I wasn’t a fan of the DPad, but then it bricked on me and wouldn’t turn back on 😒. Went back and got an Elite 2 instead, lol. 🎉 In my heart that’s what I wanted anyway, lol. And so far so good!
The thing I'm waiting for is to see what that screen can do with 3rd party apps. So far the screen doesn't really do anything I'm interested in. I use an Xbox headset so that won't be able to be adjusted with the controller (I think). Like you I don't want social media popping up while gaming. And once I setup all my remapped buttons and dead zones I'm not gonna mess with them again, which I can just change in the setting menu on the Xbox anyways. What I'm hoping to see is that the screen can be integrated into games, like maybe being able to see your inventory or something. As for the L3 and R3 not being remappable. I do like that feature when I was using my Elite Series 2 because like you stated, I use one of the back paddle as my melee button and the other as my sprint. Now I know this is a very specific nitpick but when thumbstick are pushed to full lock, because you are clicking the stick at an angle it can be harder to consistently push them down and sometimes even cause them to shift slightly, making your straff when you didn't mean to or affect your aim just a bit.
Had my Elite 2 for almost 3 years. Ive taken great care of it. Cleaned it regularly and been careful never to drop it and it still going well for me. No stick drift at all. However, about 3 months ago the right bumper started going on me and ive had to remap it though it still works, just not 100% of the time. The thumbstick motion on my Elite still feels incredible so this TB would have to be an absolute thumbstick god for me to make the switch.
it's the switch. SoSS Gaming (RU-vid and amazon) explained the whole issue with the bumpers. MS used different mfr switches for the Elite 2 for some reason, and they're trash. The solution is to put in the previous mfr's swtiches. SoSS sells. cheap too. So i've soldered in new switches into two different Elite 2's and never had a problem again!!
Not having an L3/R3 binding for the back buttons is a deal breaker for me as well. A good number of retros from the PS2/Xbox Original era games has some functions bound to those buttons that can't normally be remapped in game. Like one of the old Burnout games puts the booster on the L3. Sure you could remap it in an emulator, but not all of them currently support controller profile options. Then you have some modern metroidvanias that will bind movement abilities to the stick buttons as well. It's just not ideal for these kinds of games.
You can work around not being able to map the stick clicks. Remap in game and use The d-pad and bind to those. For example, make down d-pad melee and map a paddle to that if you really wanted to
After 4 elite controllers and currently on a scuff envision, I have decided to use a paddle for Sprint since I claw and the left stick click tends to wear down pretty fast for games that don't have auto sprint. So it's not so much accidental as it is me having to press harder and harder until the thing doesn't work anymore
I play Apex on xbox and have crouch on my right stick and that stick is bound to my back paddle, it’s because normally melee is bound to the right stick and it made melee during gunfights. Seriously considering a new controller but now I’m doubtful this is the on! Really like the roller videos btw! Keep it up
I have my right stick bound to the rear paddle on my elite series 2 for that same reason. I guess because I run a really tall right stick,I will accidentally use my nife every time I'm in a fight. It drove me nuts. So now my right stick click does nota.problem solved for me.
Thanks for the follow up. Also thanks for replying that there is not support for macros. That's not always a feature for pro controllers, but I do enjoy it for my single player experiences. In your videos you normally go over which systems the controllers connect to. This is very helpful for my decision making. I was wondering if you could chime in on controllers that work for the Steam Deck going forward please? It's a pc and has Steam Input so most controllers will be recognized as a generic gamepad if nothing else, but hearing if Steam Input can support the back buttons is good to know. That's one of the reasons I chose the Elite Series 2. Steam Input recognizes the back paddles right away.
Pressing the thumb sticks down over and over again definitely deteriorates the sticks. I always bind sprint and slide to my paddles which are on my thumb sticks.
Ive had mine a day now, first of all the app and the controller would not sink together, for stick setting standard/precision/fast. Then my controller completely bugged out, down on the dpad was permanently activated, reset it, deleted firmware, BROKEN!. I do hope this is not a regular problem, i will return and get another one and hope it does not happen again!
@@GamerHeavenOfficial yeah pretty upsetting, weirdly it happened when I went into the menu in game, I was changing the slow down aim thingy, came out of the menu and instantly bugged on a perma dpad down action.
I have the problem where I accidentally click the right stick when shooting and end up melleeing....I just swap the right click with down on dpad in the accessories app
Great review in the first video and update in this video. This isn't related to this controller but I've just had an email saying the Victrix Pro BFG is coming to the Xbox in February. I'm assuming you'll give it a review?
I just picked mine up today. I am enjoying it more than the dual sense edge at the moment because I have 4 paddles now. And I can change profiles with ease. I just couldn’t update my dongle it kept saying error.
Love the channel man. You are the aficionado when it comes to all things controllers. Appreciate your dedication to the craft and responsiveness to your community. Quick question....I run the victrix gambit currently as my daily driver. If you have used the gambit, In your opinion how does this controller compare in responsiveness and rear button placement? Is the juice worth the squeeze to upgrade? Much respect and thank you!
Thank you man I really appreciate that, for the price which I’ve seen it go as low as 80 bucks on Amazon the gambit is amazing, it does kind of suck that it’s wired which when I’m playing on console I don’t usually like
If money is no problem which controller with HE Sticks and 4 rear buttons would you absolutely recommend? Custom preferred but not a must have. I would thank you, bc I am overwhelmed right now.
So I’ve ordered a TSUC and I’m really worried incase I’ve wasted £185 on a controller just to have problems. I’m currently using a Elite 2 controller and noticed stick drift straight out the box. Can you do a video on a step by step ‘how to connect Stealth Ultra controller to Xbox and best settings
I can personally say using the back buttons for the left and right joystick buttons definitely without a doubt helps tremendously with not getting stick drift nearly as fast. I've got large big strong man size hands so I know I push on the thumbsticks harder than I should. When I don't map those buttons to the back buttons I get stick drift in about 2 months when I map them to the back buttons I can get about 9 months out of a controller before it gets stick drift. This goes for the Craprosoft "Elite" junk controllers the Thrustmaster eSwap Pro and the Turtle Beach Recon Controller as well. So getting almost 5x the amount of use out of a controller before it gets stick drift is pretty huge in my book especially for myself who hates more than anything having to keep buying something over and over again cause of the same issue! Which brings me to the point that once you get use to using those back buttons for those stick buttons you may want to keep using them for that. As soon as the Gamesir G7 SE came out I had mine ordered cause I was done wasting money on overpriced junk ALPS joystick controllers. Sony should be ashamed of themselves for using Craprosoft's idea on how to screw over their customers. Up until the PS4 and PS5 they used their own version of Hall Effect Joysticks using magnets but they seen how much money Craprosoft was making off of their controller sales so they jumped on the bandwagon as well. I've owned all of the Playstation up till the PS5 and I've never replaced a controller ever! Within 2 months of getting my "Elite" junk controller it had stick drift then the Xbox One S controller my first Xbox came with had it in 2 months as well. Craprosoft wouldn't do anything for me since I actually bought my "Elite" for my PC and rarely used it since I use M&K for my shooters and a controller for racing games which I rarely played but since I had it for longer than a year they wouldn't do anything for me at all. When I finally broke down and bought an Xbox I figured well since I have this "Elite" controller I might as well use it instead of the regular one it came with so that's when I started really using it regularly and like I said 2 months later it had drift. So I started using the one the Xbox came with and 2 months later same thing happened. I of course was very upset and contacted Craprosoft over and over again only for them to basically tell me to bad you'll have to pay to have them fixed now that they are out of warranty. They wouldn't tell me how much they would charge me to fix them either so I joined the class action lawsuit against them for their "Elite" junk controllers and told them I will never buy another Craprosoft controller ever again. The judge decided it wouldn't be handled as a class action lawsuit so the attorney sent us all emails asking if we wanted him to represent us all individually so of course I signed up for that immediately. After 2 years Craprosoft finally gave in and sent us all "Elite" 2 controllers so I didn't even open the box I sold that piece of junk immediately! I was using my Thrustmaster eSwap Pro for quite some time 3 sets of Joysticks later which lasted about 9 months each after mapping those back buttons to the joystick buttons. Then as soon as I found the Gamesir G7 SE which used Hall Effect Joysticks I got one of those and haven't looked back at any of the crap ALPS joystick controllers ever again! I was interested in this new Turtle Beach controller until I seen the price. No thanks I'll keep my $40 Gamesir G7 SE and just not have the extra 2 back buttons since it only has 2 instead of 4. I can also adjust all my audio with it as well using a wired HyperX Cloud 2 headset for my PC. There's really nothing much that the Turtle Beach controller does that's worth the extra $160 to me. Sure it would be nice to have a larger size controller again especially since I've got big hands but other than that and the extra 2 back buttons I'm not spending the extra $160 for it. Maybe once the price goes down to $100 I'll consider it but not until that happens though and by then I'm sure there will be tons of other controllers that use the Hall Effect Joysticks and have a lot of extra options as well for a lot less money. There's really no reason to spend more than $50 for a controller I mean these consoles are only $500 and you get a crappy ALPS controller with it. $200 for just a controller is ridiculous! I only did it cause I thought the "Elite" was actually elite but it was far from that! Then I spent almost that much again on my Thrustmaster eSwap Pro cause I liked the bigger size of the controller and I liked the fact that I could just swap out the joysticks once they went bad and I really liked the 4 back buttons instead of the stupid paddles which get pressed every time you set the controller down! I think back now and still wonder why I spent that much on another ALPS joystick controller but I also think it was to stick it to Craprosoft in a way as well lol cause they will never get another penny of my money for another controller ever again!
I dont like where the window button is above the left joystick. It's awkward to hit when playing warzone should be where the stock xbox controllers put it. That's enough for me to return it beautiful controller though
If you have an old not working elite series 2 can you take the thumb stick caps and replace them into the turtle beach? Those thumb sticks are the best because of the metal on the inside and the fact that it would make them swappable and kontrol freak compatible.
I know you mentioned the scuff envision for a good PC only controller, is that your number 1 pick for PC controllers? Thinking of getting this TB Stealth ultra but if you have some other recommendations I could check out that’d be greatly appreciated! Love the videos man super in depth and thought out, and the humor makes it that much more enjoyable to watch 😂
Unrelated to the vid but i just received my hypr controller with Hall effect sticks and it came in with heavy jitter and the worse precision/calibration ive ever felt and it gave me the same results as your nacon revolution 5’s left stick in gamepad tester. If i send it back will they fix it or do you think they wont be able to do anything
I loved my elite series 2 but sadly it got stick drift after just six months and the right bumper also went out shortly after that. I had the same issues with the first elite and thought MS would have fixed it for the second one. To be honest if the elite series 3 doesn't have hall effect sticks and micro switch buttons it might as well not bother coming out . Awesome review btw. This turtle beach beast is a game changer and by far my favorite Xbox controller.
Just buy a 20 dollar store warranty after that when you have issues it's just 20 bucks to replace each time. Elite 2 is the best controller hands down in my opinion.
2 Questions on this matter, I watched both Vids, and by the way, I think they were very informative and humorous, to say the least. However, this issue you had with The Firware update was that successfully resolved, I have pre-ordered one of these controllers and don't want to go through the hassles you went through on your first Vid, 2nd--If you were to add the usb into the charging cradle, as you pointed out on the second Vid, and attached it to any USB on the X box, irrelevant front or back, will it still power up the X Box Wireless. Just a thought... I await your thoughts on the matter.
Sorry it’s still not clear. Can you use this controller wirelessly on Xbox? Don’t care if it’s turtle beach dongle or xboxs, can I use it without a wire across my living room?
Thanks a bunch for the major in depth review! You made me check prices on old Hondas for a bit. Are you going to do a dissassembly video as well some time in the future? Very interested in why the weight differs so much from other premium controllers. Since it's packed to the rafters with features, that kind of felt like a red flag for me. I never had a controller die on me in thirty years of gaming, not even my switch controllers, so I'm kind of baffled by the build quality problems that have been going on lately. Kind of kept me off buying an elite 1 or 2, so kind of hoping this one to be a winner on all fronts. Also, another unrelated question: how many of the fourteen gazillion controllers you have do you actually use regularly? And what does your device list look like in device manager? :-D
I’m making a video of my entire collection soon with a list of details for each. Weight is usually the build materials, battery size, and vibration motors.
@@GamerHeavenOfficialwell, a great video deserves a good comment, so that was all you, sir. About the Honda, sadly I have too many cars as it is already: my government taxes them way too heavily, no fun. I was wondering about the battery as well. If it's on the small side, then that screen must be draining it pretty quickly, right? Good thing it charges relatively fast, then. Looking forward to the complete collection tour!
Is this easy to remap back paddles with Rewasd ? The elite 2 has direct mapping menu for back paddles in REWASD which makes it so easy. I prefer using REWASD instead of native remapping because it's easy to export mapping settings to other controllers.
To be honest, I'm not a big fan of the elite series spending that much money on a controller just for the RB Bumper to go out less than a year But I have this one ordered and i'm hoping the quality is a lot better and last a long time.
I have an an Elite 2 and I've had it for over a year. It's by far the most quality controller I own. It's weight and material feel extremely premium. But I also eventually had a button stop working (up on d pad) and then stick drift. Mind you im an aggressive gamer but I tried to treat the controller good considering its price. Now i have this Turtle Beach controller and damn it feels smooth. Its not nearly as premium feeling as the Elite 2, but it just is smooth in-game. Like butter. I didn't even have to get used to it
@@GamerHeavenOfficial I know you already reviewed the Game Sir Khalid but how dose it hold up to the newer hall effect controllers you mentioned like the Vader is it still good.
You answered my question with this video about different thumbstick caps that I left in the comments of the first video. Awesome work man. Also which playvital caps do you think work the best? I noticed that they have a collection of different textures on the surface of the stick. Is there an outlier or are all of them basically the same?
This controller was so close to being perfect for me, the thumbstick size issue is honestly borderline a dealbreaker I've been using Kontrol Freek Vortexs for the last 10 or so years so switching back to regs is a no go. Just gimme everything this controller has (take or leave the screen) and it'd be damn near perfect, I've been using Elite Series 2 for several years and I've returned 2 of them due to stick issues, 1 got jammed due to slide canceling so often in WZ and the other just developed unusable stick drift due to my intense usage.
Im VERY used to my elite 2. Bought the envision pro and just can’t get used to it. Would you recommend the tb or should I just wait for elite 3 to be announced? Thanks.
BATTERY BATTERY BATFERY!!! I've seen nobody talk about the battery. It seems that the battery cannot be swapped out, so if battery goes the controller is useless. Any info on how many charges the battery is rated for? This in my mind might be a BIG Problem. The least of which is I like the ability to just swap out a battery and play while the battery is charging. My biggest concern is having to get a whole new controller when battery starts to lose the ability to take and hold a charge. Any insight on this would be great. Hope you read snd respond to this question as I feel it's very important info
Insane review like always 🎉 unfortunately not being able to bind LS and RS to the back buttons is actually a no go for me too. Could that be updated to change, or is it like a core thing and it’s just how it is? Sorry if that’s a dumb question, I really don’t know my stuff 😛
Cheers for the reply on the other vid. Makes sense why your subs stick around to a creator who listens to viewers :) Have you heard any rumours on a Thrustmaster eswap wireless?
Keep seeing more and more people complaining about the thumb sticks getting ground down (I’m having the same issue) was wondering if you had any idea what modules were used so maybe we could find an alternative in metal or a higher quality plastic at least to replace the crappy stock sticks (I’ve heard scuf instinct may work)
