I had the gear oil in my C6 changed out last year, with a synthetic oil. Prior to that I had noise, and after the change. After replacing it with the ACDelco oil, the noise is gone. It's always good to swap out the drain plug, mine had a slight drip, had to tighten up the plug more than I wanted to but it stopped the leak. I ordered a new drain plug just in case this one leaks again, or I'll swap it out in the near future. To loosen up the filler plug, I used a 10mm hex bit socket, and a long breaker bar. This worked well for fit and function.
Towards the end of the video, you say "It's pretty normal for these to go out every 5,000 to 10,000 miles." What does that mean? You make it sound like the rear differentials go out every 5,000 to 10,000 miles. I took my 2006 C6 in to the dealer for noises in the rear end. They changed the rear diff fluid and the noises went away, but they say I still "need a new rear end." Are you saying these noises return every 5,000 to 10,000 miles? Thank you, and great video!
i think he meant the fluid needs changed every 5-10, it may be possible the fluids weren't changed and excessive wear occurred, so you'd need a new rear diff, always get a 2nd opinion though, i would've asked to see the fluid they took out
Very good video ...easy job with the right tools ...i have a question... Imagine the car lifted just from behind..front bumper almost hitting the floor...open the fill plug to check fluid level a small amount of oil come out ...do this mean the differential was over filled?
To answer your question yes it is over filled in your situation also a heads up do what he says about going to a parking lot and do the figure 8s that slings the fluid into the axels
