Really helpful video - thanks. Only issue I had was all the Hive gear connected correctly (including hub) but the boiler would not fire up. Turn out I needed to remove the optional control panel on the front of the boiler - I thought just disconnecting then old wireless Thermostat would have done the trick! Thought this may be of help to anyone with at similar ‘head scratching’ moment.
Hello, I followed your instructions carefully but the boiler did not switch on when I powered it up. After much checking I looked at a couple of different youtubes and they described a four wire installation rather than three with a link. Live and neutral and two switching wires connected to 1 and 3. I'm going to buy some four core and give it a go.
Pete, great tutorial and it’s quite straight forward, Thanks for sharing. Once the Hive has been setup, do you need to disable the MT10 Timer or remove it ?
That's a great video! Thank you very much! I have just moved in to a house with quite old Worcester 24cdi rsf that has got mechanical clock/timer and it's broken... so was wondering if I could have a thermostat instead as there is only 3 wires coming out the boiler PCB into that clock/timer unit that sits in the bottom panel on the boiler...

Great video. I don't know if your boiler is going through a fused switch. Mine is. Currently the boiler is constantly on and I've to switch off the fuse in order to turn off the heating. Have i wired something incorrectly in the fused switch. I have a black and a grey cable
I only have live neutral and earth, nothing for the live switch. Could I connect the live to the mains supply and the switched live to the other live ?
Hi i have a wec 2000 30i there is a fused spur next to boiler, that currently goes to boiler .Do i have to put the wires from sender into the boiler too ,eg two lives and two neutrals . cheers
Do I have to disconnect anything from the existing remote controller? I’ve wired as per video but it’s not controlling the boiler when calling for heat
The hive does not need earthing as you say it’s fully insulated, BUT the cable has to have an earth running through it in case someone cuts through the cable.
Hi the link takes me to one with a hub. Is this the right one? Also could I conceal the receiver inside my boiler cupboard and still get good connection to the thermostat? Thanks.
Hi mate, I've got a WL2 thermostat and the receiver has just one button, any idea how I connect the wireless thermostat? It seems to have fucked up and only flashes with black noxrs on the thermostat? Cheers
To reset it take the batteries out. Turn the power off to the receiver. Turn the power back on and press the button on the receiver for about 10 seconds until the top light starts flashing. Put the batteries back in the thermostat. After a short while the top light on the receiver should turn green and the thermostat's display should show the current temperature and set temperature.
Hi Pete, great video. You make it look striaght forward. I noticed you leave 2 and 4 empty on the hive backplate, however the Hive V3 (single channel) instructions note 2=Heating off (NC), 3=Heating on (NO), 4=Unused. Does this make a difference, or should I go with whats in the video? Thanks.
Hi great video, could you tell me my current manual control panel I leave the hot water and heating on the always on position, then just just the thermostat dial when I want to on/ off heating ( but 0 for off and 20-30 for when I want heating Is this the correct method and will I be able to use like this for the hive? Mega flow system
Great video. I already have the white wire from the boiler to a Honeywell receiver. Does this mean I don’t need to touch the boiler just remover the old Honeywell receiver and wire to the new hive receiver using the wiring diagram? Thanks.
thanks for clear instruction, prior to your instruction i kept getting re-connecting, a soon as i re-set to factory condition system was running again, brilliant and great video.
I have a compatible (according to Hives website) Greenstar boiler and when I installed my Hive thermostat it is constantly heating the upstairs radiators even when I have the thermostat set to off. The downstairs radiators stay off until I turn the heating on but the upstairs ones remain on. Any advice?
Hi mate, just installed my hive following your helpful vid & my heating is switching on/off via the hive thermostat in stand alone mode. But when I try to do it though the app it’s not working? Any ideas haha. Thanks pal
Hi I have a Greenstar 40CDi boiler, but it has a hot water cylinder + a tank in the loft. I've bought hive that does both hot water and heating - Could you explain what is different for wiring that one in? I opened the boiler up to have a look but the blocks for connections on the inside panel are slightly different to your diagram. Also mine runs on LPG (Doubt that makes a difference, but just incase!) It would be much appreciated! I'm capable with wiring, just scared of shorting out the PCB by getting the wires in the wrong place and being without any heat (Did that once on my old Vokera... Oops) Thanks!
Will run from wiring centre and not the boiler mate. Wiring centre often found near tank… your old programmer is the key. Find the wiring diagram for the old programme (lne and demands…) and then marry that up with the hive dual channel wiring (google it and multiple images will appear.) As always - i’m not there and can’t see what’s going on… if in doubt pay a sparky.
@@petegasguy That's actually really helpful, thank you! The wiring centre is indeed right next to it, I had no idea what it was - Only had Combis before. I'll see if it's been labelled internally. Much appreciated!
Great video Pete. My current Honeywell timer attached to the boiler has the loop from Live to 1 with the switched live going to 4 on the timer. Is it just a matter of replicating but with the switched live to 3 on Hive? Cheers. James
Hi I know this is an old video but it’s spot on but I’m having trouble getting it to actually turn the boiler on and wondering if it has anything to do with the switch in the middle of the diagram
Do you/did you have a remote stat before installing the Hive? I’ve just installed Hive and had to remove the existing (optional) control panel from the boiler front.
Cant live without one mate… think mine is the fatmax one… only about £10-£15 on amazon. Thanks for sharing the video with your customers too… i hate showing them too. I always show them ‘up and down’ in manual mode and then send the video and tell them to get in touch if they have any further questions (which is basically what the hive instructions do) Have a good one
Hi Pete Do you have to have a hub with this unit? Read so many conflicting reports on these if you don’t it doesn’t get updates and will affect the way it works!
No mate. If you want it as a standalone unit then no - you don’t need a hub. If you want to use your phone then yes, you need a hub. Updates…? Unlikely it’ll need an update for the standalone version. It’s just a signal thats sent remotely from the stat to receiver. Hub will often need updating, which usually happens automatically… but usually security updated etc. If you dont want to use your phone then buy the one without a hub.
very clear and helpful Video, however I dropped a boll++ck and ordered a 2 channel Hive which does not work ....is the a fix or work around that you know of, and would a single channel receiver be a straight forward option
Hi - I’ve wired this up to the greenstar HE plus, which is the one with the built in clock and programme timer. The only way for the hive to work seems to be when the timer is set to constant on, which means the fan is on the whole time. Is there a way of wiring it so that the timer is overiden and Hive acts as the timer, without the boiler needing to be on constant? Thanks.
Can you not disconnect the built in clock & programme timer? I'm soon to try and install hive myself and have an old 35CDi with the programme timer. I won't be happy if it has to be constantly on (or double programmed)
Do you have an R30HE Plus combi boiler? I have one if those and was looking to get a Hive stat today, however their website states that this boiler is one of the only models not compatible because it’s designed to be exclusively compatible with Worcester Bosch’s own TR2 thermostat...
@@exFAT. Please don't tell me my expensive hive thermostat that i'm having trouble installing is not compatible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can't believe it I must have the only boiler in the world that isn't compatible....nobody warned me!!!!!
@@scottspeig Hi. How did you get on? I’ve a Greenstar 35CDi to which I’m going to add a Hive Mini Heating Thermostat Combi. It currently has a DT 10RF which I guess you must the receiver in the front of the boiler to avoid both thermostats competing. This is a great video, many thanks, which hopefully will bring my old boiler up to date by being able to use an app.
@@robribbon62 - Still waiting on an acquaintance to confirm my chances before unplugging - especially as we had a rather cold spell this year! Brrrr - Will update once its done...
I think what you meant was ‘thanks for taking the time to show me how the wiring works on this - would you mind telling me how to sort the hub’ To which i would reply… ‘ yes sir, simply Plug in the hub and link it up via your phone…? This is about wiring so doesn’t really cover that. If you struggle to get it all paired then simply give their contact centre a call and they will give you a hand’ You’re welcome.
If you have a system boiler then it’ll generally connect to the wiring centre (usually found where the tanks are.) I’ll level with you - i could put a video up about it but i generally call our spark in to do it. There are a few variations and the wiring to the backplate is different (easily found online by typing ‘hive wiring diagram dual channel’) However… it has been known that the backplate on some common ‘older’ stats match the hive back plate - and sometimes you can literally take the old one off and pop the hive on with no wiring alterations. That being said - if i were you - grab a sparky and ask them to take a look if there’s 1% of doubt.
Hi I have greenStar 30i. Hive is connected up with a four core. problem is my boiler is still recognising the old thermostat. Hive is connected and says it's running but doesn't turn heating on and off. I'm guessing I need to disconnect the current thermostat how do I do it? Thanks Aaron
Is the old stat built in to the boiler? Without seeing it it’s hard to say but often a case of either putting it on constant (old stat) or connecting the 2 black wires on the old stat if its receiver is built into the boiler
Yeah it's built in like a timer I'd say then wireless thermostat. IV tried it with it been set to on still doesn't work. Seems to be taking priority over the hive. Green lights are all on. On the hive reader. Just doesn't control the boiler
@@aaronsenior9629 on a lot of these the panel i think you’re taking about just unscrews… there tends to be a securing plate held in with just one screw towards the top left of that inbuilt receiver… you can then just unplug it, tuck the wire away and that should do the trick
Lol… erm… ‘cheers’ I’m too old to stress mate. Although being ‘laid back’ could be a threat from someone called ‘headshot’ 😂😂 Hope the video helped… have a good one.
