I'm glad I checked for a tutorial on PDF pattern printing on your channel prior to emailing you. Thanks for walking us through what looks to be a very easy, straight forward process. Yes, I heard a lot of audio feedback when you went into the Copy Shop files to choose what you wanted to print. You've probably worked that all out since the filming of this tut.
Using a Mac, I drag pattern AO files from download to my desktop and then drag them into PDF Plotting Choose File prompt. So easy. I do make note of how many pages when I first check out pattern download. Thanks for great channel ideas you come up with!
Thank you SO MUCH for this tutorial. I have been trigger-shy due to cost and to not really having too many indie/pdf patterns...but after following you and some others, I now have a BUNCH of pdfs, so finally worth paying the $7.99 shipping.
I have to give you a big thanks for this video, I have been getting lots of Love Notions on sale on Fridays or in the sale she just had in Oct 2020. And you talked about how you save them and send them off to get printed to save on shipping. PDF Plotting was great, sent off for 45 pages of AO printing and the shipping cost "$7.99 and the $1.39 per page, and all hot here in 3 days😍 Thanks again!
@@TomKatStitchery I think you're right...speaking of PDF patterns, have you ever (or do you plan to ever) shared how you store your PDF patterns (pretty please)?
Whitney this was a big help and now I’m in love with copy shop printing! Thank you! I ordered a few patterns printed and got them delivered today 😀 I had trouble on Sunday afternoon with sticking together one of my Green Style patterns (honestly was probably the paper fed in crooked and I didn’t notice) so this tutorial was very timely for me. Now to trace out my size and get to cutting and sewing all the goodness...
Great information! Thanks so much. One of these days please take us through your process for printing at home ...those 25 page taped monstrosities and how you do it, if you do. Then, why and how to trace off your size as I have even screwed that up in b&w copies. Finally they are so large I have storage issues. I have no room to hang them as have seen ... I am rolling them up in old paper towel tubes but wonder if there is a better way as they get kind of thrashed squeezed into that tube! Love you and your content and your cute face! Happy week!
Thanks Whitney. Copyshop printing seems a much easier option and not expensive which was a nice surprise. Re sound - it's like a background hiss to me but I can still hear you very clearly. Good luck with finding a solution!
Sending PDF files to an online copy shop. Cool, now, I can do it! I like the idea of using a copy shop for printing: perfect instructions here. Thanks you. ~ L
I had never noticed an issue with sound until today. I watched on my iPhone (in the truck while husband is tool shopping ) and there is so much fuzzy noisy, I had to stop. I will watch again at home on TV. Thanks for all you do!!
Thanks for doing this! Ready to print off a bunch! Appreciate your help. There was a background buzz but I’m not sure where it’s coming from. Didn’t bother me from getting the info though!
Hi Whiteney, good plan for your up coning project. Looking foward to seeing the finished projects. There is a lot of static, but still can hear you. Thanks for showing us how to get the pattern files.
Thank you. I would like to order some digital patterns, but have not done this before. The site was a little confusing. I am so happy that you went through this sequence of ordering. Great tutorial. I had no feedback from your computer. I enjoy your vlogs.
Thank you SO much for the plotter printing info. My print shop at work is 3x to 4x more expensive, so I figured they all were. I've downloaded some Grasser.ru patterns this afternoon and they're already on the way!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I almost understand. At times I feel like Rip Van Winkle since I retired and now live in this computer world. I just ordered a free pattern but now trying to find the next step. I'm sure I'll get there.
I have use Pdf printers and was pleased but I found a local company that specializes in printing blueprints for construction companies that can also print my sewing patterns. If I get 5 pages it is $1.30 a page. Wait time is 10-15 min. I can also email them the files and pick up later. They are great and No shipping fees!
Wow looks so easy and affordable. I was wondering how this was done. I have been buying printer ink and tons of paper, not to mention the time it takes to put some of the pattern together. Thank you for sharing this!🤗
I have been enjoying watching your Videos and Sew-a-longs. I haven't sewn in years and am expecting my new machine in a few days I have not seen an actual Video tutorial on how to add sleeves to a sleeveless garment. I love many of the patterns otherwise, but cannot go sleeveless. Can you do a Video, maybe even including how to 'draft' a simple short or elbow lengethed sleeve onto a sleeveless and to a 'halter top' dress and of top please. Thank you.
I’m so glad you’ve been enjoying the channel! I can definitely talk about adding sleeves to sleeveless bodices. Drafting sleeves can become tricky and is a bit in-depth, but I can show some pattern hacks and ways to get around that!
Morning Whitney, thank you for sharing this tutorial. At my local Office Sollutions they do large format files and living in Canada ($5.99 per page) it’s way more than PDF Plotting if I take into account the shipping costs, exchange rate, usually a couple of weeks for shipping to me it’s maybe cheaper in the long run to just pay $5.99, and I get the pattern the same day. Have a great day. Val ❤️🇨🇦🇬🇧
Thank you, again, for this tutorial. Now that my patterns are here...have you ever (or do you plan to ever) shared how you store your PDF patterns (pretty please)?
I’ve had a sewing pattern printed as a large print copy at UPS. I took the large print file/ copy shop/ao format to the store on a drive. AO paper is 36 x 48. UPS was able to print the large scale version from this information. Good luck!
THank you. So helpful. I had no idea what to do with those files and thought I would have to print and tape a million pages. FYI: I know you acknowledged the swooshing noise but the left side of your screen did was not visible. When you noted the size popping up, it wasn't on screen. I subscribed. I'm looking forward to learning from your other videos.
this was great and I will give it a try. This PDF pattern thing is so new to me and I have tried it once at a local shop, a chain, and they could not figure it out and ended up printing the whole file, think it was over 100 pages. They did not charge me however. Tried another print shop and they also could not figure it out and part of it was probable me not knowing what to print or ask for. To do it on line is a real time saver. When you receive it do you then trace it off onto another form of paper? You are amazing and thank you for sharing so much information!
Hi Kathleen, I was in my local office solutions and in talking to the associate she said you need to ask if they print blueprints for architects . That was my lightbulb moment. Hope that helps.
Kathleen, you can definitley save the printed copy and then just trace off your size onto tracing pattern. I like to use medical exam paper from Amazon when I trace!
I fold them, iron them with a dry warm iron and then store them in the 8.5 x 11 yellow envelopes in a filing cabinet. I’m so glad you tried out PDF Plotting!
You asked about the audio feedback/background noise. I can still hear it, but it is minimal compared to what it previously was. It sounds like you have an air conditioner or something running right next to the microphone.
Hi Whitney. When you cut out your pattern, do you go ahead and cut out any adjustments at that time? Thank you for showing us this process. May have to give it a try. Thanks
Hi Whitney, thanks for your tutorial which you’re great at. There is a swooshing sort of noise when you’re talking to us while at your computer. Love from N.Z. Xox 🧵
Thanks Whitney - great vlog as always I just can’t stand taping all of those little pages together so I’ve been sending off A0s to be printed for a while now - love it!! I use 2 companies in the UK and they both send the patterns folded A4 in a large envelope which means it can be popped through the letterbox if I’m not at home (well not at home pre lockdown anyway!!) Looking forward to the active wear tutorials 🌈🏴 p.s. the sound was a little buzzy but not so much that it bothered me or that I couldn’t hear you
Thank you for the tutorial, will share it widely around me. Also, for the sound, are you recording with an external mic or headset? That might be the noise, if you're not.
The printing is honestly the major reason I haven't tried online patterns (although some are adorable). It seems like such a hassle, I live in a rural area, no print shops locally.
Hi Whitney. Thanks for this it was really helpful. I really love your channel as I have similar fit issues to you. I am also a warm Autumn and would love to know which lipstick you wore in this video. I know it's not sewing related but I have been looking for just the right colour for so long it would be great if you could let me know so I can try yet another that just might be right. Hope you and your family stay safe and healthy. I am lucky to be living in the Netherlands which seem to be going in the right direction as our figures are really promising. Look after youself.
I’m so glad you’re enjoying the channel! The lipstick I’m wearing here is a neutral lip pencil from Sephora called Rose Wine and then I’m wearing MAC Bad N’ Bare lipstick over the top!
Hi, I know you adjust for full bust but I am very tall and need to adjust for length. Any suggestion on lengthening wrap style dresses or blouses above the waist?
Hya Whitney, Great video, Iv'e been going to use a copy shop here in the uk but didn't really know how to go about it. The scratchy sound is still there and a bit loud at times. Stay safe.
PDF plotting is the only way to go! Though I do sometimes do the taping thing even though I loathe doing it, some things are small enough to not bother. BTW, I just ordered that B6358 bathing suit pattern from Oliver +S (oliverands dot com) maybe it’s only Out-of-Print on the Butterick site?
I'm working on an Itch-to-Stitch Vienna tank today. I discovered that my printer is placing the image at the paper edge, so the left lines are not printed and the aligning corner dots were misshapen if a 1/8th gap is not incorporated. I think I have them taped OK. This experience has me wondering about using a printing service. Your information will greatly help.
The numbers for pages with paper size didn't show up on my screen from your computer. But I know I can figure it out. Is it possible to put the download on my stick and take that to my local printer in our town?
Hi Cynthia - I download my copyshop patterns to a usb stick and take them to my local Staples to be printed. They always have my pattern ready the same day I drop off the usb. My local owned (not big box) copy shop is HORRIBLY expensive, but Staples is affordable. My local OfficeMax/OfficeDepot does not have a wide scale printer.
100% Need help! 🤪🤪🤪 Trying to turn patterns into 1-3 sizes smaller by grading. My mum ~150cm tall, has lost weight. Before painkillers, I used to be the same 45kgs she was, before she lost weight, (to those reading this...45kg sounds horrific--- but it is PERFECT weight for that height), so I understand being that small and have most paper patterns around that 8-12 size. But mums smaller. AND she's always been smaller again- bone structure wise compared to me and my DD (back then) bust. So she's tiny!! I understand basic grading, up or down... but some spots- like the curve of the arm etc, your really just guessing. Is there a way to do it perfectly? For example theres many Burda magazine patterns perfect for mum (now she's finally letting me sew for her!!! Finally got all her measurements!!) but I have to size down from 36 to a 34 (which they sometimes have) to then. make 2cm+ seams on size 34 when sewing the seams... to make it around her 32 size!!! And big seams I can see already, won't work on some designs! (& Kids sizes aren't styled for adults. Can't put a 70+yr old in a baby doll style dress!😄😄) I sort of am 95% okay with taking out height and width from patterns (THANK YOU for quickly showing how to do a small bust adjustment!!) it's 'truly' grading down patterns to say a size 32-30 etc, when the pattern.... or any pattern, finishes three sizes bigger than what you need!!! 🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪 Hugs from W.A. 🤗🤗🤗❤️
Re:grading, Itch to Stitch has a good tutorial on the topic. As for Burda, have you considered the bigger Kids patterns? Bc size 152cm (aka 12yo) has the measurements of a 32 except for lengths, basically. These patterns aren't numerous but maybe you can get a blouse, skirt and trouser and use them as blocks to add adult styling to? The DE site shows 14 patterns for size 152, including envelope patterns. Hope this helps!
@@ariellecelestin9417 thanks! Yes I have a few old kids patterns, but they are kid styles not appropriate for adult women. I'm good at sewing and patterning, but not completely at turning a normal top into a blouse etc. Not quite there yet! Still need others patterns, to help me on that. Will have a look at I2S on RU-vid. Thanks!😊 Oh what does DE mean?!
@@ariellecelestin9417 thanks for your help!! Can you tell I can't spend much time on the internet! 😉 Thankfully I can buy the magazine which for me is the cheapest option!!
Hey Whitney, just giving feedback on the audio. Your intro to this video has great sound, however when it change to the tutorial, its sounds like a fan is blowing air (best way I can describe it) that was really weird how the sound changed. Good luck in finding a solution!
My Staples is going to cost me 12.00 to print off which will make the indie patterns and printing ( depending on the price ) almost 30.00 for it in total!!!!
The sound definitely has a weird background sound to it. It sounds like roaring air. Not really a hum or piercing tone .... just a lot of air . I apologize for the description...but it’s the best description I can think of.
I just checked out the cost of having sewing patterns printed out in Canada and it's just way too expensive. If any of your Canadian viewers know of reasonably priced sewing pattern printing in Canada maybe they could let you know. I guess for now it will be taping.
Hey Whitney: I do not get any details on my "copy shop" "Love Notions" patterns so that I know what size paper to choose at the printing place...where do I find that-or do I just email them for that information?? TIA :+)
