You could also practice these drills holding onto a guardrail or a wall if it helps. I use skates from JMKRIDE. I first learned on cheap Amazon skates but after a while the wheels disintegrated lol.
This is the most helpful tutorial on starting Freeline skating I ever saw. This statement doesn't seem to be much a praise, but let me tell you, I've been trying to learn this for almost half a year now, and I've watched every. single. tutorial I could possibly. found. on youtube related to Freeline skating but still haven't got the idea how people pump, because all other tutorial basically only shows you how they pump, but didn't quite explain other than "try it and you'll get it". Yet, I've been practicing for almost half a year now but still haven't got it, until today, when I tried to find and watch every tutorial I could possibly found on youtube yet again, I happened to see this. These easy break down steps make me feel like I can learn it in no time, as previously I really don't know what to practice. Kudos George, totally agree that your videos deserves way more views -- yours' much better than those 20 more views than yours.
I like this method of teaching, I think it was more effective than the weeks spent with the normal JJK method. Where the JJK method focus on balance by using declines and outward force to start you off in a neutral inline position, this method forces you to internalize the foreign motion that freeskating requires of moving between two split positions by rotating your feet. I think this is a really effective way to teach for someone who has previous skating experience, doing the traditional JJK method made it hard for me to break my understanding of leaning to turn that I have from skateboarding and roller skating and no matter how much I told myself to do a different motion it wouldn’t work but this way really helped force myself into that different range of motion needed to free skate, thanks!
This is a really good video for anybody starting with Freeskating or riding switch. Your videos deserves way more views 😁 I'm learning switch today and this really helps
This is such a good tutorial - I love how you break it down into fundamental skills, each building on the other. It makes it very clear when is making progress. This helped me so much!
Thanks for posting. This is a great tutorial. I haven't figured out how to freeskate yet and I get the sense that this gives me a pathway to build my skills ahead of when this process clicks for me. This video doesn't have the flash that all the other videos on freeskating have but I think it's really valuable stuff.
Wow this tutorial is absolutely incredible, it's the first to break down the method this way! I just placed an order for my first skates, will update on how this tutorial helped!
Took me much longer to get it! Don't give up, try something subtly different every day so even if you don't get it that day, you're making progress because you're seeing how various changes affect the outcome.
