I know how you feel. My dad passed a week before his 96th birthday in July of 2014. I miss him every day. He was my best friend. Hey, thanks for all the infor.
I had already subscribed to you but I don’t know why , pure luck , because I’ve just got an embroidery machine and getting a scan n cut in two week , thank you so much you just opened doors I didn’t know existed 😧😊🙏
OH! And big hug to you for making me try the Hot Spot again. Two mistakes: I had it plugged into my laptop AND I needed to choose Bluetooth. It works fine. It still took about 3 hours, but that is lightning fast compared to 18 to 24 hours for a video under 10 minutes.
I read your comment to my husband and he reminded me (AGAIN) that it was his idea for you use your hotspot to upload the videos. So I'm giving him full credit right here in RU-vid Comment Land. lol "Yes Keith, it was YOUR idea" :-) Glad you are back up and running!
Yay! I put a link in the description box to Allbrands where you can buy one. I highly encourage you to purchase from them. Their customer service is exceptional and if there's anything wrong at all, you have an actual person to deal with vs. like on Amazon. Mother's Day is coming! Get you one!! LOL
thought you should know I adore you. You have an amazing way of teaching and it is fun and funny. Thanks. Hope to share with you what I have learned from you soon.
That was great. I bought a different cut machine last week, but I found this super helpful. Thank You for taking time to do these videos. I appreciate your valuable time.
You're absolutely welcome! Many of the tips, tricks, techniques (and fails) are universal across the cutting machine world. Glad this video was useful. Thanks for watching!
Sorry for making this 2 messages but this my first time messaging anyone...I hit a wrong something....I really do appreciate your videos and sometimes I feel you make them just for me...THANK you again....Joni
Becky you are a hoot, so much fun, keep that up, life is short. Loved my time with you today. So glad you do not fret over sewing, it is for fun after all. I say, I do not allow the sewing police in my studio, lol. Have been sewing over sixty years and you can only imagine how many boo boos have occurred. But still sewing, enjoying and loving it all.
Becky do you know if any the programs you mentioned (I think you call them programs) can be used with the cricut maker and a Baby lock Esante...I have had the Esante for 11years...Maybe could convince Hubby on trade in (not too sure)...But the Cricut Maker no way(just got it for Christmas and have not even opened it)...I am also looking into the small Grave frame and a larger throat plate machine....Again everybody has a different name for them long arm, mid arm
Becky, I am so glad I found you a couple weeks ago! LOVE your videos! I embroider and quilt (Bernina 880 Plus, 780, and 480), and I have learned a lot from you! I love your casual style :). I feel as though I’m in the room with you and we’re just visiting and chatting. During this time of Covid, you’ve been a lifesaver ❤️
Hi Becky, I just watched the video. You did a super job patiently showing it step by step. Awesome! I have been watching your videos and really enjoy them.
Can you share how to stabilize a long piece of fabric for stabilizing it when you have multiple stacked embroidery files to stitch out? I am trying to applique the safari slumbers quilt using scan n cut and simply applique. Thanks! I love your videos.
Thanks for the great video. I have an embroidery machine that has been sitting in the box for several months. After watching your video, I'm ready to unbox and learn how to machine embroidery!
I used to do the same type stuff (applique type stuff) when i worked for a sporting goods company, putting names and numbers on jerseys and uniforms and other stuff too. It's interesting to see how its done with other tools. I used Industrial embroidery machines, a Roland cutter and different software, but it's the same thing! So cool!
So when you purchase Embrillance. You want the thumbnailer ,& Essentials. Is that what you suggest for a beginner to software or did I leave out something? I want to make of everything I will need when I go to purchase Embrillance. That is why I am asking this question. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR ALL YOUR HELP AND YOUR VERY INFORMATIVE VIDEOS!😊😊😊😊 WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE COLOR OR COLORS?😊😊😊😊
Thanks for introducing me to these wonderful products(cutter and Simply Applique)!but am so excited. I just got the Simply Applique, so I haven't gotten into it yet, BTW, you can get weeding tools at Harbor Freight.
Do the fabric support sheets come in 12”x24”? I saw a video where a brother Scan & Cut user used Dawn dishwashing liquid to clean her mats. Also, she used some glue stick to have her patterns/fabrics stick to her mats. Have you ever done this?
I watched a utube on a Brother scan n cut. This woman cleaned her scan n cut with dish a tiny amount of dish detergent, others use a alcohol free baby wipe) to clean her mat. She then used a glue stick to make her mat sticky again. I would think the glue stick use would gum up the blade. What do you think?
Hi great video but can u scan the 12x24 mat i know of u pick a imagen thats already on their it will cut it but i need to draw big imágenes n scan to cut it can this scan n cut do this ? Thank u
okay, so when is the retreat at your house? Nothing like R,W & B. Looks beautiful, love the fabrics and the design and the lesson. Can't wait to see how you quilt it! I present you an Award for Excellence on this video. Those tools in the right hands make all the difference. Thank you for sharing!
Can one Scan N Cut an Applique on a Brother SDX85 using Essentials and then use the cut out to applique it on a Brother PR670 Multi Needle Machine? I hope you understand what I'm trying to ask?
I can not understand WHY you flipped the design before cutting. It is the same as a circle... It is the same dimensions on all sides. Also, why did you not use the sample star? Is there a way to lock that arm in place?
Becky, could you please do a mug rug tutorial w/ the OESD in-the-hoop mug rugs. The instructions I printed out are not that clear and you're really good at explaining things. I got as far as cutting out the tea kettle and birds w/ the scan'ncut. I've been learning how to use it and it's so handy. The collection # is 12547. I used the SVG files instead of cutting by hand.
Hi Tammy, I don't have that set. Could you email the instructions to me? Not the design file - just the instructions, and I'll take a look at them. Tell me where you're stuck and I'll see if I can get you through it. Email me at powertoolswiththread@outlook.com
My SNC model is the 650 Wireless. I put a link to it in the description box. Yes, I realized I titled the star dimensions wrong on laptop. I've fixed it since. Thanks!
Nice tutorial, but I would have done 2 things differently....first, if you turn two of the stars upside down, you can get all 5 on the 24" mat. Second, I would remove the paper backing from the Heat N Bond before cutting - the fabric is well supported with just the Heat N Bond - just check the blade depth.
You rock. I bought the scan n cut for applique and you explained this so well. Question...why did you invert the stars if they were the side points are mirror images
AWESOME! AWESOME! AWESOME! tutorial!!! I've been trying to do appliques lately, but started with the PES file and converted to FCM. I didn't have as good of luck doing it that way. Will try your method next time. I don't have Simply Applique (I'm using PED ver 10), but it seems to have a pretty good applique creator. Do you think Simply Applique might have an advantage over PED 10? On another note, I make a lot of antique/reproduction type quilts, so they tend to have a LOT of HST's. I actually find it kind of meditative (is that a word?) It does take forever, but it's my alone time, can't ever get too much of that! My best was the first Tree of Life quilt I made, each block had 40 HST x 20 blocks... 800!
800??!! Holy moly! God bless you girl, I simply don't have the patience for that and I wouldn't even begin to tackle that type of project. I've never used the PED software so I can't compare it to Simply Applique. Simple Applique is limited in scope of what it can do and I do wish I could do just a bit more editing with it. However, it does do exactly what I need for most projects. I'm going to work on a more advanced video soon that shows how to do multiple layers of applique. It's more in depth and requires someone to know the basics of applique just to begin with. We'll see... Thanks for your kind words. :-)
Great tutorial thankyou can I ask I’m in uk if I bought this simply appliqué programme from USA would it work ok as no one in uk stocks this which seems a pity thanks
The minimum PC requirements (according to the box) are "IBM PC or compatible computer. Operating System Microsoft Windows 7, 8, or Windows 10. 1 gigabyte of RAM, 1 gigabyte of hard disk space, and Monitor 1024 x 768 video resolution with 16-bit color or higher." I believe that if you have this type of computer, it will work regardless of where the machine is actually located. It will not work with a Mac. I placed a link to Allbrands where you can purchase it too in the description box. I'm sure they will ship across the pond to you. :)
Gotta love the SNC650! Simply Appliqué looks interesting, think I’ll look into it. Thanks. I have BES4 Dream and it definitely has a learning curve. Lol. Do you have it? Great vid. Nice project!
Thanks for your nice comments. No, I do not have BES4. I use Embrilliance Essentials mostly and I have added on the Stitch Artist module (that I don't use a whole lot). I also use DIME's Word Art in Stitches and it looks like between those two, I can do pretty much what the BES4 software does. But I love applique and Simply Applique does the trick for me. Thanks for watching!
Power Tools with Thread WaHoo!!! Just learned that Simply Appliqué is part of the 4 in BES4! Lol. Heavy learning curve on the BES. I’ll try the Star now using your vid instructions and see if I can get my BES to do it. Thanks again. Who says ol dogs can’t learn new tricks?! Been sewing 70+ years and always glean a tip or two from you. Thanks for sharing. ❤️
Hi Becky! I’ve got a question. I’ve emailed Brother and a Brother dealer, and can’t get a coherent answer. I have a Scan n Cut 2. I also have Brother, BabyLock and Janome embroidery machines. Using Simply Applique, can you save files to other embroidery formats, such as .dst and .jef? Or will it only save to .pes? One dealer told me that the embroidery files can only be used on Brother machines. 🙄 Thanks!
Hi there! If you take a look at 20:14 in the video, I'm doing a File/Save As and you can see all the different file formats that the software saves to. No, it does not just save to .pes and only work on Brother/Baby Lock machines. I have a Janome MB7 and I've used it on that machine just fine. The problem at the stores is that they are just not familiar with this software. It's been around a long time but is limited in it's function so it never really sold well because people didn't know how to use it. I think Brother is selling this software more now since I've started videos on it than ever. The limiting factors of the software works great for folks who applique quilt like us and don't do much more, but if you are a serious embroiderer you'll want to use a more capable embroidery program like PE Design Next, DrawWings or the Floriani software...but those are $$$$ and of course the dealers all want to sell you that. I believe all that software has an applique feature in it that can use scanned designs. Me? My companion software is Embrilliance and so far so good but it doesn't recognize .fcm files - hence the need for Brother SA. You don't need Embrilliance, but that's just the software I use in addition to SA for all of my embroidery needs. If you are seriously thinking about purchasing it, please contact Allbrands.com. They are out of Baton Rouge and provide exceptional customer service. They still offer it on their website. Here's a link with all the product info. And I just noticed they have now linked to my video on their website! lol (With my permission of course). www.allbrands.com/products/65662-brother-sabessa-simply-applique-embroidery-softwar
Power Tools with Thread Thanks! Yes, I use Embrilliance Essentials. And it works great with my Accuquilt die cuts. I contacted them. They have software that recognizes .fcm files and creates embroidery files for the Scan n Cut. But it’s almost $400 and does so much more. Personally, I have no desire to digitize embroidery designs, so it would be complete overkill for me. My only other obstacle is that Simply Appliqué is not Mac compatible. I have Windows laptops, but really prefer to work on my large Mac desktop screen. I guess I’ll have to dust off one of my Windows machines. 😉 Thanks again for your help!
Have you seen the kits by Carla method for making HSTs? I haven't tried it but it looks INCREDIBLE such a time saver. Check her out on RU-vid she has some for other very common blocks too like quarter squares and other stuff!
Just checked her out. That's a great way to knock out a gazillion HSTs if you're using yardage. That method wouldn't work on this project because the pattern designer has you cut several sizes of squares out of a single FQ and there are 11 different fabrics that all need those cuts. Like 10-4" blocks and 10-3.5" blocks out of one FQ. I'd be afraid to run short of fabric with her method.
Love ALL your videos. Can you PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE straighten the shade on the lamp behind you on the Cubbie. It is a distraction for people like me. Thanks much. ⭐
ROFL!! :-D Done! Sorry about that. The original glue that holds the shade to the bottle is from 1992 and doesn't hold it up straight anymore. Maybe I need to re-glue it? LOL :)
