Tutorial: Pitch EG Manipulation (Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, etc)

In this tutorial video, I discuss how one would use the EG (Envelope Generator) to change the pitch on a sound to 'slide' up or down, or even do both at the same time!
So if you've been looking for the synth climb in 24K Magic or Uptown Funk or any other dozens of pop songs that have this sort of effect, this is a video you'll want to watch.

This is an excellent tutorial, very much appreciated! If you're still doing more, could you please do one on LFO's for the filter, i noticed there is no AMS for the filter frequency, how would you modulate that? Also, are EG's the only way to modulate the sound automatically without having to touch any knobs or JS (so when you're playing with 2 hands, the synth will modulate on it's on). Thanks so much! :)

Tremolo is nothing more than a sine wave applied as a controller to one of three things: Pitch (Vibrato), Amplitude or Volume (Tremolo) and Panning (Rotary/Pan sweeping). So, think of Tremolo as vibrato for volume. Now in terms of assignment: Instead of using an EG as your modulation source, use LFO (Low frequency oscillator) and you'll get a 'warble' depending on what you assign it to. Pitch would be vibrato, Amplitude would be Tremolo, etc. Give that a try!

Kronos 08 Not really. I mean it’s technically possible with KARMA, but a combi is more or less a multi-program midi controller. The volume changes need to happen at the program layer, which is where the sound itself s generated. The only other option is using a tremolo insert effect, and using a controller to change the amount of wetness the effect has. That might be an option too.

It's entirely dependent on how you assign the EG. Look for the "DECAY" - Depending on how you have it set up (If you follow my video exactly) increasing the number under "DECAY" in the "TIME" field will slow down the rise tempo. If you make the number smaller, it'll make the rise happen faster. Try that, and see what happens.

Generally, the programming concepts should be the same. I don't have a Krome, so I can't say for 100% certain but most synths that are programmable will have some sort of Envelope that you can assign the Pitch to... So I want to say generally yes. Someone with a Krome could better answer your question though.
