Tutorial - Sewing in Multiple Signatures to a Journal Cover! - Nutcracker Journal!

It was good to see your method for sewing in multiple signatures again. Good refresher! I have only been doing single signatures for so long. I think the colors of the cover go well with the pages of the digital. My daughter-in-law took me to Tulsa 4 years ago to see the ballet. First time to see a ballet in person. It was magical. Loved it.

I can sympathize with Mike. We have oak trees with huge leaves and the yard looks so unkempt when these cover the ground. I rake with a vengeance this time of year. Gayle, it is so much easier to glue the name behind the bookplate and then attach the bookplate to the cover.

I never thought of using a silicone spatula to press down the fabric onto the glue! Clever! Love the rich colors of your cover 😍

A tapestry needle has a slightly rounded tip to slide past thread. It also has a bigger eye for tapestry yarn. It works wonders on sewing in signatures.

I have been delaying construction of a journal because I haven't done multiple signatures in awhile. This gives me courage. I absolutely think this is the perfect cover for a Nutcracker journal. The opulence of the fringe is reminiscent of the theaters where we saw the performance when we were children, then with our children and grandchildren. It perfectly encapsulates the tradition and magic of the experience.

I made my very first junk journal, Fairy Whispers. I sewed in 3 signatures! My issue is, I think I pulled the thread so tight, to make the knot, that it ripped the pages somewhat, the tears aren't too bad. Luckily it's not too noticable. So I'll be making a Christmas journal, just have to remember not to pull so hard tieing the thread in a knot. I plan on my Christmas journal having 3 signatures as well. Fingers crossed 🤞🏼🤞🏼 I'll remember not too tight. TFS, another awesome video💜🦋

watching the challenge of gluing on the fringes, I thought that some low tack tape on the book would help line it up. Then the glue could go on the book instead of the fringe and be easier to attach. 🦌💌❤️📚

This is going to be a gorgeous journal! I was thinking that one way to get the trim exactly where you want it would be to use washi as a temporary marker. You could place the washi just above where you want the trim so you’d have an easy line to follow. It would be especially helpful when you are placing multiple lines of trim, because it would allow you to adjust the spacing beforehand. 😁🥰

Hi Gayle! Thanks for this video. I'm working on binding my Envelope Notebooks, & have found that putting the end of the string under a binder clip helps hold it so I don't have to worry about it. (They're only one signature, but they're thick!)

It is so difficult to find the hole in upholstery fabric. You are amazing at that. I usually struggle a little. 👍👍

Such cool digitals. I love all things Nutcracker. I never had girl's to share boyfriend woes. I was raising three boys who were probably the cause of some little girls woes. 🥺 My 17 soon to be 18 year old granddaughter and her Mama are very close .

Loved seeing you sew in three signatures. The three signature hardcover journal is my usual go to although I have strayed. The four Christmas journals I just made were all one signature but a five hole pamphlet stitch instead of three, that’s another one of those things that I said I’m never going to do again. 😂 Not too long ago I made a five signature journal again one of those things I said I’m never going to do again. I used to sew in signatures where you don’t go through the middle hole until last, you go all the way up from bottom to top or top to bottom. When I saw you go in the middle hole right away again I thought I have never seen such a thing what’s the point, and I kept resisting it until I finally did it and for some odd reason it’s easier, I don’t know why, there’s still two threads going through one hole, it shouldn’t be any easier but it is. I shall never resist a Gayle method again.

This is great to see more than one signature sewn in. I really love how this journal is coming together...this cover is perfect for all the colors. At first I wasn't crazy about the colors in this kit but now I love it! 😊💜

Thank you for the thread tip. I am happy to see you make this without using expensive tools. As a newbie, I have a few good things but want a sewing machine and the big crocodile thing. Spell check puts the proper word, but I am sure you know what I mean. I scored a huge book of maps/atlass at goodwill for 2,99 I find upholstery fabric sometimes that I am so crazy about. I don't buy because I don't have anything to cover. I am tickled now! I am gonna go pick one or two out that I love OK just one. (Embellishments you know!) I am a new subbie and will be binge watching often.
