Thank you. Answers many questions I've had for a long time. But, I have a couple more, what tool did you use to connect the F-connectors to the cables? Also, I can't find a media box, but have 7 cables hanging free outside my home, like I saw on yours. My house is new construction. Where else could it be, or I may not have one. Is that feasible?
@PhilCrockett
@PhilCrockett 5 лет назад
here's my F-Connector video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5_9H3dW9C6k.html This also might be helpful.... a continuity tester: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PBCcYM_Vtx0.html As far as the location of the media box, I can't be too sure to give you an answer. Too many variables with house construction. The continuity test would help solve the problem by locating which end belongs to the other end. I know the older houses all met outside in a box that was screwed to the house. The new houses usually have a media box where they meet, but not all houses are built and set up the same. Hope this helps.

OTA used to be the standard, now many people think it must be illegal since it's getting free channels! It's great in the US, in most larger cities you've got a pretty reasonable selection of channels. Polar opposite in Canada, unless you live close to the US border, our channel selection is abysmal.

Good job! Lots of cabling job. Now with the fire tv recast, this simplify the install. But i like the antenna in the attic. Hows the reception though? My closest city is about 70miles. Do you think running it in attic still doable? Thank you.
@PhilCrockett
@PhilCrockett 5 лет назад
It would hurt to try putting yours in the attic. U might need a booster with it, but it’s worth trying. My reception is great, however, I’m a bit closer to all the towers than you.
@odalysyzer2394
@odalysyzer2394 4 года назад
What antenna, splitter/booster do you recommend? I should eventually end up with 8 TV's through out the house.. The antenna that you used is that a directional or omni directional Antenna? If you have to turn it to adjust a signal won't that maybe make the signal weaker for another station? I would like to use an indoor attic antenna.
@PhilCrockett
@PhilCrockett 4 года назад
I really don't have a favorite splitter. They are all pretty much the same. Probably find reviews on Amazon for a good decision. As far as Antenna position goes.... I do have to turn my antenna to pick up one of my local stations. I live out in the country, far from that one tower, however, I do live on a hill. Everyone's situation is going to be different and you will have to adjust for your own. I'm lucky that I pick up stations from an attic antenna. Some people can't. Hope this helps.

Hi Phil, Thanks for the video very helpful. I'm getting poor reception from an indoor digital antenna (one placement gives me all channels but Fox, but then another wall gives me FOX but I lose CBS). Therefore I'm going to install an attic or outside antenna. Quick question...similar to question below. If my current Spectrum Cable is hooked in through a box on the outside of the house, could I disconnect where the Spectrum is coming in and connect my attic antenna/outside antenna to this outside box instead? I'm wondering if any homes instead of having a "media box" could just have an outside box instead??
@PhilCrockett
@PhilCrockett 4 года назад
Without looking at it, it's hard to tell. However, I would try it for sure, if you know it the main line that feeds the other ones in the house. Let me know how it worked out, Mike

I have an antenna on the foreclosure I bought and don’t need it for tv but wonder if I could use it for anything else like intercepting WiFi or internet. It seems to have a motor that turns it also
@PhilCrockett
@PhilCrockett 5 лет назад
TV antenna is only good for TV. the motor is to turn the antenna so it can pick up other stations. When I was a kid, I would have to go outside and turn the antenna by hand in order to pick up certain stations.

What trick did you use to locate media box from attic and slip cable from antenna directly inside media box with all that insulation in the way?
@PhilCrockett
@PhilCrockett 4 года назад
when we had the house built, I had the electrician run a cable up to the attic. However, it CAN be done at any time....just a bit more difficult. search for 'fish rods for running wire' here's a link for you. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07519CLJX?pf_rd_p=ab873d20-a0ca-439b-ac45-cd78f07a84d8&pf_rd_r=SR59VV5BKBBSG1T0S8VJ I have a set of these. Basically, you go in the attic and fish these rods down the wall through existing holes that the wires run through. Blindly tap around until it finds the next hole to the basement. I should make a video on this. hmmmmmm.. maybe I will sometime.

Did the signal hold it's strength after being split 8 times or do you recommend a signal booster?
@PhilCrockett
@PhilCrockett 6 лет назад
I've never had an issue, but I rarely have more than 2 TV's on at the same time. Not sure if that would matter, but it might. I do have a booster that I never installed due to the fact that I don't seem to need it.

@@PhilCrockett Yes, splitters always reduce your signal regardless if a tv is connected to them. Splitting into a 8 way reduced your signal by 80% compared to the signal coming in. As a rule of thumb its always best to only use the amount of spits that you actually need. Or using a amplified distribution splitter which can split the signal 8 ways but there is zero loss , zero gain on each outlet. Every time you use a spitter you will usually have at a minimum loss of 3.5db

What if I need 2 antennas? CBS is at least 120° from the rest. Will I have to wire another antenna side by side? Or can I wire 2 antennas into a media box and have them both go to 3 TVs? Sorry if it sound confusing. Please advise. Thank

So the the best way is to run a tv ant wall jack into the room? As of now my tv antenna cable is literally hanging from the ceiling, and it just looks ugly. Can you link/list the tool you used in the description?

Good video, but my question is what to do when the house doesn’t have media box, but has all the cables tangled without the cables having cables labeled for which room. Thank you
@PhilCrockett
@PhilCrockett 4 года назад
I would buy or build a continuity tester to identify where the cables are going and label them. One of the cables (hopefully) is the main one that runs to the receiving device (satellite, ant...etc.). Once you have them all labeled, and know where they are going, then you can simply start plugging in the devices. Here's my homemade continuity tester: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PBCcYM_Vtx0.html
