It's always tragic when someone passes away, whether due to disease, a sudden accident, or any other reason. However, the death of a television actor presents a unique problem for the cast and crew of the television program. Should they recast the part in order to keep the character alive and keep possible storylines in place? Or kill off the character as well, even at the cost of interrupting storylines and possibly even the tone of the show? The people behind these shows chose the latter, often giving the characters these actors played the heartfelt sendoff that the actors themselves earned.
