James Coleman, aka The Rubbish Mechanic's, Channel: / leadedstar
In this review, suitably attired, we go for a drive out in the Warwickshire countryside to test a wonderful 1995 Volvo 960 3.0 24v CD Estate and see how practical it is, what it is like to drive and what it is like to own. Be prepared for more in-jokes for fans of 1950s ITC television series (as usual), references to Peter Serafinowicz's seminal spoof science series Look Around You, much too much excitement in the outtakes about the quality of the drive by footage, numerous mentions of the legendary Ian Seabrook's HubNut RU-vid channel, some thrilling headlamp wiper action, an obscure allusion to Computer Boy (a 2000 Australian fan film inspired by The Matrix), some enthusiastic driving courtesy of rear wheel drive and over 200 bhp, an appearance by the amazing Roofrack Roy and light hearted stereotypes of Geography teachers. Nothing untoward, then...
As an independent vehicle consultant, I take potential buyers through the whole car buying process from choosing a make and model to a vehicle handover and road tax. In addition to information on this service, I also have a selection of written and video reviews of cars that I have owned, hired, borrowed or have somehow come into my possession. Please use the Contact Me page on my website to get in touch, visit my Facebook page for latest updates and share this video if you like it! Thank you for watching.

wow, my jaw hit the floor when you said how many miles it had! I would've guessed under 100k for sure considering the condition. Nice review

Thanks ever so much indeed! James has some great cars. I also reviewed a 1990 Nissan Primera and a 1982 Ford Granada from his collection a couple of months ago, but I don't think that you would be familiar with those, as they didn't sell either of them in America. The exterior of the Volvo 960 in particular is incredible considering the mileage, and they are very cheap secondhand!

"Doctor, the Invisible Man's outside...." Another superb review, I don't think it even matters what the car is! A friend of mine had a similar Volvo estate in the 1990s, he got some stick for driving a "boring car" but laughed it off and used it to transport wardrobes when his children moved home. And 230,000 miles on the same engine and gearbox - amazing. Is that the original interior and paintwork?
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 5 лет назад
Hello Stanley, yes, that's the original interior and paint as well as the original engine and gearbox. James may put a new engine in at some point, but it's OK for now, as far as I know. Bits of the interior are a bit worn, but it really isn't too bad. The alloy wheels are not original to the car, but they are period correct optional ones, which is excellent. Glad you enjoyed the review, H. G. Wells' Invisible Man is a charming, but largely now forgotten, series.

Very nice review of the 960! I got one for my self and a gave 1500 pounds for it and it is a 964 2,5 manual one owner before me and completely stock and been maintaind very nicely. Then I also got a 744 b230f bone standard and no extras whatsoever. That I paid 50 pounds for

Thank you ever so much indeed! Yes, the 960 is an amazing car, and you can still pick them up for around £1,500 over here. The 740s are even cheaper, although £50 will probably not get a running car any more. Glad you enjoyed the review, I am hoping to get some more older Volvos on my channel later this year, especially as my mother had her 1989 240 GL Estate for 11 years when I was growing up...
@mattsbeamer
@mattsbeamer 5 лет назад
Another great video! I really do love these cars, when it comes too the older generation volvos, I’ve only been in the 240GL as a young boy, and a Indian friend used to take me for drives in his big 740 and I think there was a 340 all in manual. I did get to park up a very very old orangey coloured 200 series estate. It was massive, but I found it easier to park in a tight garage than the mk1 fiesta my friend had at the time. My friend said I can film his Volvo 850 when I’m next in England but it’s all down to timing lol.
@lloydvehicleconsulting
@lloydvehicleconsulting 5 лет назад
Thanks ever so much indeed, Matt! So glad that you enjoyed the video. My mother also had a 240 GL. It was a 1989 2.3 manual estate with a catalytic converter (one of the first cars in the country to have one). We had it from January 1990 to October 2001! I think that it had around 130,000 miles when she sold it. She also had a very late 340 as a loan car and a friend of hers had a 1988 740 GL estate when we were younger too. All tough rear wheel drive cars that were very solidly built indeed. Would love to see an 850 review if possible! When are you next over here?

I’m not sure when I’ll next be over. Let us know when you are next in the country, and we will see if we can work something out. It takes some courage to speak on camera, but it does give a engaging dimension to videos. Lloyd Vehicle Consulting thank you for those encouraging words :) it means a lot :) What I find hard living in russia is I don’t have many friends which like cars. In England most of my friends love cars, saying that thou, a good friend of mine wants me to film his two interesting cars, which I found for him to make money on. It’s hard to find what we call clean in Moscow, but they have all been sorted out now. One is a beautiful 2008 Cayman S, but it’s a special Porsche design version, and another is a Lamborghini Gallardo SE, I really hope I can get the chance to film them before they get shipped to Europe , to make money :) Yes it would be great to meet you all :) What cars have you got lined up next. Looking forward to your future videos. I love the older cars from our generation :)

Thanks Matt! Just uploaded a video from a classic car show which I attended earlier on today. No BMWs or Volvos, sadly, but there was a lovely Mercedes W123, which I know that Matt from furiousdriving may well like. I get the impression from Russia that the sort of cars which are popular tend to be ones which are a bit flashier than over here, although it is interesting that they are worth more in Europe! Would love to see the Porsche and the Lamborghini if possible. I have a number of car review offers lined up, and, as I alluded to in a previous video, we are going to have to space them out a bit for financial and logistical reasons, but the next filming block will probably be in July. I am speaking to my videographer about it this week.
