No, that is not needed. But it was his second time assemble the variator. He assumed it was not properly secured the previous time. Personally i would fix the variator manually and not mechanically.

@@marinobelava5437 Marino Belava In the video he uses a special tool (air gun), this is mechanical. It is recommanded to do this with the hand with a 'blocking key' that 'blocked' the variator, so manually. You can see on youtube various video's with the manually method, by typing T-Max 530 demontage. The manually method is the safest way.
