This scene is actually really sad, these days. After seeing what happened when he finally GOT home, it makes Eleven's cheerful optimism and expectant smile so heartbreaking. I guess this is what it's like to be someone who knows another persons future. To know the pain they're going to go through because of their own hopes and dreams. Eleven deserved better.

Peter Capaldi has the camera. Jodie Whittakers working the fog machine. Future David Tennant is doing the visual effects for the background. Ncuti Gatwa is telling everyone how long to stand still for.

Theory: What if this is the Doctors regenerations go? What if this is the afterlife for the doctor? Notice Matt Smith only appears walking in, the rest are already there, what if this is him after the time of the doctor?

11 looks so happy. He dies in the next episode.

0:25 chills every single time. Especially knowing this is one of the last times that piece of music will ever be used in the show. Easily one of the best soundtracks ever written.

The Doctor returned to Gallifrey from his nightmare (what he dreams about). He came "home, the long way round." S09E11: "...and if they ask who I am, tell them, I came the long way round." So glad they returned to that concept!!

The Eccleston png kills me every time. Tennat and Smith turn to look at each other, drawing the audience attention to your two favorite boys. Its fluent, its movement, its very real actors. Then right there on Tennat's shoulder, eccleston.exe has stopped working.

Paul McGann! He earned a place in the line up and deserves the honor.

Matt Smith may not have liked the face he pulled for this scene. But I think it fits perfectly. It's like a child who's been lost from his home for a long time, has just found his home again.

But it's just one man staring at a planet.

My favourite doctor is played by Christopher Eccleston, his personality is just so funny and great at the same time 😉

I spent much of my childhood watching the classic Doctor Who episodes. Seeing all the faces of the programme like this invokes quite a range emotions!

The day of the doctor was one of the best episodes in history of doctor who I loved how they brought back David and I finally got what I wanted Matt and David to meet eachother

Many faces. Many travels. Many adventures, many stories. Many victories and many defeats. Many triumphs and many tragedies. But in the end, for all the "manys', there was, still is, and will only ever will be one...Doctor.

I like how the producers put the eleventh, tenth and the war doctor alive while the other doctors... not much alive, but it's awesome how the producers put Hartnell behind all the generations.

I remember watching this. I had it recorded on my box and re-watched it so many times. This is probably one of my favourite Doctor Who episodes ever.

"Home, the long way around" I've just started watching the classic Doctor Who and in season 2 in the Dalek Invasion of Earth, that's what one of his companions said "You brought us a long way around Doctor" right after the Doctor says he finally brought them home. Just kind of wondering if that was a reference or just pure coincidence. :o

What was that thing at the end? I get the feeling I've seen it before, but I can't seem to remember anything about it... And why are there two black marks on my arm?

Quite a few people have said that the doctors besides 10, 11 and the war doctor don't look terribly real, or look like cardboard cutouts. Seriously though, what do you expect the team to do? Unfortunately time travel isn't actually a thing, so they can't bring back any doctors, (or doctors like Christopher Eccleston just refuse to, which is totally their choice) and if they just had different actors instead of the faces of the actual actors, I think people would hate it even more, because they would dislike that they weren't acknowledging the actual actors. And yeah, maybe it doesn't look super real, but sometimes we just need to have a different perspective and remember that this is a fictional TV show which is attempting to do its best, and we won't believe in any of the featured events regardless of how they look (while a more convincingly crafted scene is more enjoyable to watch, it won't influence our belief in the things existence). Just stay positive everyone - I still love this scene to bits.

Seeing scenes from DW like this still give me goosebumps, even though I stopped watching the show after the 11th series. It's a shame that the Doctor is the 'timeless child' or so I have heard, which kind of takes away how special this scene is :(

Actually met John Pertwee when he was touring the US. Wonderful man. Ill never forget that smile of his

11th Doctor walks in, narrating. Tenth pats him on the back. And a colorful arm reaches forward, asking "Would you like a Jelly Baby?" :)

The first doctor behind all of them always will be a cut above his other lives. The original is always best.

Now that is how you respect the writers who came before you and who made this series great!

They could've honestly ended it with the shot at 0:30 and had the same effect.The bad 2D cutouts look pretty silly.

After watching the ending of season 12... No, this is the ending of Doctor Who.

I started with the ninth doctor and am currently on the last series of Ten and I am super reluctant to watch eleven. Not that I have anything against Matt- all the scenes I have seen with him in them are excellent. I'm just struggling to come to terms with the fact that David won't be the Doctor anymore. Please tell me it's easy to move on because to me David Tennant is The Doctor.

You know, if Doctor Who ever does decide to finish the Doctor's story, I think this would be the way to go. After all his years of travelling and all the faces he has had, have the Doctor finally return home to Gallifrey, who is now finally content that he has experienced the wonders, horrors and mysteries of the universe, and ready to tell stories of his adventures to a new generation of Time Lords. And maybe hint that another young Time Lord, inspired by the Doctor steals a TARDIS and a new adventure begins.

10 years after The Day of The Doctor and I still believe this is where the first round of the regeneration cycle went.

I just realized Matt Smith sounds quite a bit like Sylvester.

Hartnell's doctor was the first. End of. I don't care for any of the revisionist nonsense they've come up since. This episode was written when they still had writers whoe respected the origins.

This was where I got off the wagon. For me this represented whole completion of the Doctor Who saga. Its beginnings reaching out to its ends. Full circle. The long way round. Finally coming home.

this scene is so awesome! i can not beleive they actually resorected the first 3 doctors and made all the other actors look like their younger selves.

Correction: Eleven Doctors and one anti-doctor (John Hurt) stand together. You're forgetting that the War Doctor didn't call himself the Doctor during the Time War because of the crimes he did during that war. There weren't twelve doctors then because Capaldi's Doctor didn't officially exist yet. Yes, I know the War Doctor counts as one of thirteen incarnations but not one of twelve doctors. Put it this way: There's just Twelve Doctors out of thirteen incarnations. Think of it that way.

When the 11th regenerated, he said "A whole new regeneration cycle ooh" meaning that he was the final face In that cycle, and that The 12th is the new technical "first" doctor. Well the first Cycle of the Doctor was full of absolutely amazing Incarnations and it ended with a bang. Took 50 years to get through that one. Let's see if we can finish cycle 2 on the 100th anniversary?

I really hope for the 60th Anniversary we get to see not only David but also Matt and others. I miss them so much also wish there was a way to save Donna, Amy and Rory to see them again.

I miss Matt Smith a lot, he was my favorite Doctor. But Peter Capaldi is pretty great too so I'm still enjoying the show.

It was a surprise to see 12 incarnations of The Doctor at the end of the 50th anniversary episode,even though in only 1 of his lives he wasn't called The Doctor for doing terrible things in a war.
