yeah idk why but i always come back to those two albums every now and then. it's such a nice experience and it feels different from listening to their professionally recorded songs
I miss their old style (meaning the style of the first two albums) , idk they hit so hard and mean so much , especially with scaled and icy , I was super disappointed by the trash that they put out as an “album”
It was really cool to see them talk about this, that vessel stream was the first moment where they talked openly about regional at best, at length, and the context around it
Ironically, they recorded self title album and immediately began to write new songs, although from the first album they played a small part of the songs. Ode to Sleep (at that time they play it without title) and Slowtown it's first songs that was recorded in Early 2010 before may, i guess
For some reason it makes me feel weird when Tyler talks about songs like Semi automatic. It’s weird cause I know HE wrote that song but I kinda feel like old songs like that are MY special songs and it feels weird that Tyler knows about it 😂
This upsets me because Tyler at the time, did not understand how much we would love Regional at best now as we did then, Tyler missed out on the perfect opportunity to remaster and re-release it with fueled By Ramen, Tyler could have just put the newer songs from vessel on hold and maybe just add new songs or release it as an EP like three songs did
Self-Titled is their first album. I'm not sure where RAB fits in, because, tbh, I do agree that it feels more like the demo tape for what became Vessel, but ST is different. Vessel may be their first major label release, but unlike RAB, ST wasn't released while any major changes went on with the band. It was put out there as an album when Tyler just felt like making an album. I also doubt he created it with the idea that "I'm taking these songs on the road". It was too early to think that far ahead, so he made it with the sole purpose of putting songs together into one cohesive whole. I may only think this because it's my favorite album ever, but whatever.
I think you don't realise that Tyler was touring with Chris and Nick for ages, so I kinda doubt that he wasn't thinking about live shows when he wrote self titled.
correct. josh joined the band in 2011. i think tyler honestly just didn't want to get into specifics so he just replaced nick thomas and chris salih with josh.
@@therealpisceskid Got it, thank you for your explanation. As I don't want people to forget the previous band members before Josh arrived. Knowing they helped create the first album, and helped start the band.
@@savin0279 i get you! when tyler said he and josh released self-titled, i too sat in confusion while saying to myself “what about chris and nick?”, so you’re not alone!
I think the main difference between Self Titled and Regional at Best is that Self Titled has its own songs, while some of the Vessel songs were taken from RAB to make a "real" professionally recorded album so that it kind of "cancelled" RAB
Regional at Best is probably best described as a mixtape. It’s not the 2nd album but it does exist. This rab doesn’t exist claim is really stupid. I see no reason why it can’t be re released as such with all the old versions of songs. A better answer would have been for him to be honest and just say he doesn’t like rab
But my question is why aren’t they allowed to still have regional at best on Spotify, as do they self titled. Aren’t both of those albums unofficial. What stopped them from keeping regional at best but allowed them to still keep self titled
what makes RAB unofficial is that they re-recorded some songs to make Vessel so that it kind of "cancels" RAB, but Self Titled is an official twenty one pilots album since it has its own songs. for RAB which is not on Spotify, I don't think it's because they are not allowed to have it on Spotify, I think it's just that twenty one pilots don't want to release it because it's not an official album and I think they want to hide a little bit the bad production of the album and not to have this image in the eyes of the world
FYI. Unfortunately, Tyler is lying. Josh had no part to do with the release or any writing of the self-titled album. There were two former members named Chris Salih (Drummer and Backing Vocalist) and Nick Thomas (Bass Guitarist, Synth Player, and Backing Vocalist). Hope this clears up any confusion!
@@Vivivofiwell, he's kinda right. Tyler is not lying but what he said was also not true, he just misplaced Chris and Nick with Josh (who joined in 2011, and the album is from 2009)
It's so funny how songs like Guns For Hands, Holding On To You, Ode To Sleep and Car Radio (which is just so emotional and amazing) are not considering professional and good enough
Man, I really wish we got the older albums on Spotify. I always preferred the raw, unfiltered anger of pre-blurryface Tyler in comparison to modern Tyler. Like, don't get me wrong, I'm glad the man is in a better place, but whenever he tried to write sad songs post-2015, it always felt really generic. Pre-blurryface Tyler was spewing fucking poetry every song. Vessel is still one of my fav rap albums of all time. Young Tyler was just a whole other vibe, the lyricism, the bars, instrumentals, really hope we can see more of that raw, unfiltered Tyler next album, less metaphorical shit like in trench (not dissing trench it's still great)
I've always heard songs at weird times when stuff is released I've been listening since I was in freshman year... I would listen to them 24/7 then like years in a song would pop up that was like 7 years old and it would be the first time I had heard it
It's fun listening back to ST and RAB after working as a producer for years, they legitemately sound awful. There are great songs and a couple of awful ones on there, but I 100% get why Tyler doesn't consider them part of their "real" discography. Even Vessel and especially Blurryface have some really questionable production. I still enjoy parts of their old stuff, but I feel like I've matured a bit and Trench just raised the bar so high that I don't even think they could reach it again.
@@Vivivofi I would say the original Lovely is one of the ugliest songs I've ever heard..The Vessel remix is not perfects but it saves the song. Best I think is Chlorine, it is my go to example of a production retaining that raw feeling, while still feeling polished and Radio ready
i don't think they're bad sounding albums when you listen to them by themselves, but when you compare them to current day twenty one pilots, you can definitely hear the stark difference in regards to production.
