I think the reason that they both wore the masks that are completely covered and the reason Tyler isn't singing like normal is because this is blurryface performing. I think Tyler and Josh don't feel comfortable performing at things like this (televised, award shows, people that aren't part of the clique) so they are letting their insecurities shine through. just a thought.
If you pay attention she does know the lyrics. She's singing like she's singing along to the actual beat of the track, not the slowed down beat that Tyler is singing
At 4:39 Chainsmokers said ''what was that'' (as you can see from his mouth movements) I agree, I think it was disrespectful and that they're full of themselves.
He didn't say "what was that" in the sense that he meant it was bad. They have been huge fans of ToP for a long time as they have mentioned in several interviews. Alex just got his mind blown by the performance, hence "what was that".
after twenty one pilots' performance, the fact that alex im pretty sure had the nerve to ask "what was that" after they performed honestly made me angry. at least tyler doesnt choose to lipsync or use constant autotune. the chainsmokers are honestly so full of themselves. edit: i look back at this comment and cringe at myself i am SORRY LMAO why does this have so many likes
holdingontoblasphemy -_- Look I love TØP as much as chainsmokers but I mean other people have their own opinion, personally I like this song but my friend hates it,and I respect that.He has his reasons,as I said before you wouldn't judge people just because of their taste in music also I reported ya
TOP is *SHIT* he can't sing. He's way fucking the music. The drummer is way to fast. So maybe listen to real music like Nivana, Slipknot and Metallica.
Woah there, everyone get a hold of their big boy undies. He was actually referring to the mistimed explosion at the end of the set, which made him jump. It had nothing to do with their performance, lol.
remember watching this with my family it was like showing my art project or something lmao. i got nervous and then i was like "isn't it good? aren't they good? please support me" and they were pleasant about it
at 4:10 I get shivers every time!! the guitar hold, Tyler's jump, his perfect timing on singing and jumping, Josh's perfect drums, the blurryface montage w/strobe lights & the crowd lighting up even more. Just phenomenal. They deserved that Grammy.
to take a performance and songs with so much meaning, and to then adapt and perform it to a crowd of people who don't have a clue & probably heard them on the radio, takes some fucking courage. especially as the crowd is just celebrities, it's a room of judgment. considering this, they did fucking awesome and u can't convince me otherwise
We think tyler is sassy in interviews.... but he literally found a way to bash these people without them noticing 😂 i never want to get in a fight with him 😂😭
is it weird to wonder what everyone there, that doesn't know about/get the whole blurryface concept and stuff, think when josh and tyler get up there and perform in masks and stuff? i always wonder because, to me, it's beautiful.
Angelica B honestly they just annoy me so much. like first they dissed gaga and now they're being shady at tøp??? like they literally got famous for a song about taking selfies?????
yeah they play/ perform them because everyone knows them, if they would play older songs no one would sing along because they don't know the lyrics. but i kinda like it, so only the Clique knows about the good other stuff :D
Rachel DaOtterGirl for example when they did fairly local/heavydirtysoul at iHeart Radio, the crowd was quite dead. Either they muted the audience or the crowd didn't know the song.
Kennedi Queen Øf Børedøm iheartradio does mute the audience, there were many people vouching for years that the crowds were lit there but the RU-vid comments were always criticizing how dead the crowd was. A friend of mine was a massive Killers fan so she went one year and when I showed her the RU-vid video she said they definitely tapered with it.
Folie á Badlands People always say that but it wouldn't really make sense if you think about it. This isn't a fan show, it's an award show. Ariana Grande has so many amazing, soulful songs on dangerous woman where her vocals are crazy- Grammy worthy - but she performs the same songs again and again. I know how you feel.
This dude though.... 4:40.... "What was that?" Shakes his head. Ok Screech, first of all get with the times, "Saved by the Bell" died 30 years ago.. And second of all, look at EVERYONE else around you enjoying and singing along! That was TWENTY ONE PILOTS. The BIGGEST act in music right now!!!!!
djjdkj jhjhdjk They've made changes in music genres and packed bigger concerts than Beyonce, they filled almost all of the Hershey Stadium, which was more fans than she had filled. Yes, They are one of the generation's biggest acts. Amazing band. |-/
don't even know who him and his band are but he was obviously referencing the slightly mis-timed huge explosion at the end of the set that had made him jump...i enjoy 1 or 2 of their songs but 21pilots fans are so incredibly hormonal it gets embarrassing sometimes
Tom Wilko woah.. you can't judge a whole fan base off of a few clique members.. I've met a bunch of frens in the skeleton clique and they are truly loyal and trustworthy. So please don't go around spreading stereotypes/assumptions. Thank You! |-/
+Isabella Holmes It's about Blurryface, the character that represents Tyler's insecurities and depression. That part of the song is sang in a different tone, so it's almost like the voice in his head coming out and saying "I care, I care what you think" showing how insecure he is on the inside.
I always feel so proud when they perform in these kind of situations, like in front of famous people, at awards shows. They really get themselves and their music and the very meaning of their songs on stage, and I'm proud that those people get to see that they are so special, so diverse, and so we are with them. I'm proud that they thanked us on that stage and showed how much they care about their fans and their live concerts.
I liked that halsey and her bro were singing along. although I couldn't help but feel annoyed when the dude from the chain smokers said what was that ??? like wdym
to us,this performance is anazing but to those in the audience who dont know tøp it must be weird af they must be like"who are the two dudes wih one on piano and bass and the other on drums in masks"
Lindsay Drake im sorry but I dont understand. He looks suprised about how _good_ their performance was, he claps and in the end the smiles. So why would we have to hate them?!!? :(
there's so much shade being politely thrown through the way that they arranged this mashup. all these people are dancing like fools and not even realizing that they're being made fun of. ...these lyrics aren't for everyone. only few understand... 👽 I-/ 💀
Josh Redfield this band writes lyrics that are very meaningful and aren't necessarily "pop" lyrics! If you listen to their song migraine it talks about depression and what it feels like in very deep and meaningful lyrics! So in the song stressed out they talk about how everything is stressful as you get older and that it's all about work and the money! Blurry face is also a character who kinda represents his demons or anxiety! Lots of people who are part of the clique (tøp fan base) feel close to them and relate to their music because they base their moments of darkness in their songs that maybe other people have also gone through! It's really hard to explain their music to other people but I think you get the point! Also listen to car radio, it talks about when your left alone with your dark thoughts. So when people who mainly listen to mainstream pop music dance and sing along to their music, it's a little frustrating because they don't even understand what the song is about and really only like it because it's catchy and has a nice beat, but I'm not saying they can't listen to it bc they can listen to whatever they want! But yea sorry I wrote so much haha😂 but I hope you understood what I was saying!!!
Kaddy!!! Thanks for the awesome explanation, I did some research and now I understand everything , ITS SO AWESOME and deep, so In this video he's playing the character "blurry face" which explains his weird voice and the mask right? Correct me if I'm wrong , anyway I never really payed attention to all this , it's magnificent
Josh Redfield tyler and josh do not make music for money or for notoriety; they make music because it helps them get through their personal challenges and it helps those that identify with the music deal with their challenges as well. i firmly believe that they'd make music even if they never made a dollar. as long as they could help someone through a tough time - that's the payoff. so when they're awarded for something they never intended to do, it's troubling to them. they don't want to be a part of the "club" that all these other shallow celebrities belong to. they don't want bandwagon fans. they don't need money and awards to consider themselves successful. the way they arranged the set and the mashup spoke volumes to those sentiments; to me, at least. then the fact that they were completely covered up? everyone thought that was so interesting and cool when tyler and josh were basically giving the industry the metaphorical bird by doing so.
nerdyjock It is they're most recent and popular songs. I guess they played it because they are proud of how much people enjoy it, and most people in the crowd know it. But yeah, I agree, it would be great if they could bring back amazing and inspirational songs (not that their recent songs aren't) like ruby and drown
nerdyjock they mostly play heathens, ride, and stressed out at award shows, since most people who go to the award shows recognize and know those songs. It wouldn't make sense to play kitchen sink or ode to sleep or something unless it was at their own concert, where most of there fans would be.
They do it because its like celebrating the success of those songs. awards are either for that, or to promote. if twenty one pilots wouldve had an album this year, they would promote their single by performing it.
usually artists don't actually get to pick what they play at award shows...it's like in 1993 (1992? i dunno) when nirvana played the VMA's and tried to play a different song then the one they were supposed to play as a joke, and MTV almost cut the broadcast
random rant: im a HUGE tøp fan but im pretty sure that guy from chainsmokers meant “what was that?” as in shockness. what i mean is how bright and crazy the lights and visuals were, he didnt process what just happened cause it all happened so fast
If your asking why it sounds different the way I see it is because it's live, if you want it the same way then just fucking listen to official one, but its LIVE, RAW, PURE and I'd go see it for for that expireence, you can't tell me that wasn't electrifying and an amazing performance. The colors, the beat, the change of vocal, the lights its was sick as Frick!!
i feel like the reason this was less hyped was because it wasn't tyler... it was blurryface.. he says at 2:57 "whats my name" and the the chorus, "my names blurryface and i care what you think" followed after
They do not like to make presentations in programs like prizes and things like that. When they do presentations so tyler is not the one who is singing, this is singing blurryface
4:39 the chainsmokers guy: "what was that" well, that was an amazing performance from a band that has saved many lifes. like mine. they have inspired people to live, helped us to get trough tough times, and they love us. and we love them. so that was a life savior. :)
I think Tyler's voice sounds cool in this performance. And at 4:41 the Chainsmokers said "what was that". This was my reaction " oh you don't know what that was? Well it was music way better then yours and not auto tuned to death like your music! So stfu if you don't know good music"
Vaibhav Chitneni Sorry, they suck too much for me to care, lol. Good beats, HORRIBLE singing. That's all of what my friends were talking about. I'd never pay to see them live for the fact that the singer sucks so horribly.
i kinda wanted them to perform non mainstream songs like Lane Boy and Message Man so that they can actually vibe out the message that their music is an example of REAL music with real meanings and real truths.
RefleXEvoX well yeah but just because heathens and stressed out are their most popular songs don't make them any less worse than any of their other songs. They might not be my favorite songs but it's not like they're meaningless. It is "real" music they're made by the same people. Plus Tyler would always want us to sing along, no matter how mainstream stressed out, heathens, or ride gets. I mean he changed the lyrics to stressed out to show how he felt about the success and what the clique thought.
TheSketcher96 no, i think you got it misunderstood. what i meant was, i wanted them to perform those songs to show the MAJORITY of the singers in the event what real music is like. i didn't say Heathens and Stressed Out don't have good meanings haha. all of their songs have deep truths and meanings imo.
