To her defense, some of the wording is very different in different languages. For example, the second phrase is literally “I want to speak good Chinese,” so even the subtitle translation “I want to speak fluently” is stretching the literal meaning a tiny bit.

I love how the J-Line is so understanding because they know how it feels. Luckily they have 3 of them but only one of Tzuyu which makes me feel a bit bad for her. Lol

As a bi-lingual person, I have to agree with the foreign girls. When some asks you "how do you say this?" it's awkward to translate things because each language is structured differently. For example: Greeting someone you just met is totally different in each language.
Totally agree!! Phrases are structured differently and with different expressions in a different language, I used to always hate when monolingual kids asked me how to say things cos they’d look at me stupid like why are you taking so long? Cos they don’t understand you can’t translate directly, you sometimes have to restructure the same thing/say something similar cos you wouldn’t say it like that.
@@ldnroses Exactly, like when I have to explain to people who are learning English, why some English words sound and even spelled exactly the same, but mean different things. "park", "bank", and "store"... for example. =)
@@theninearemine8499 that’s true too! One of the most common ones people looked at me stupid for was “hello”. As you say with greetings it’s different, and also no-one says our equivalent of “hello” unless you’re in a very formal situation! It just seems weird otherwise, we’d just say hello in English (since people know what it means/kinda half got adapted) or say the person’s name. And they look at me like omg you don’t know how to say hello in your language, but in reality all this stuff is going through my head!
Honestly I wanna start learning another language and I was gonna try Spanish or Korean. But my attention span is so short that idk if I can lol. But out of all the foreign languages Korean is the best I can do even though I don't know much. Im still trying though.
What i just said was totally of topic lol. But to be in topic idk if what I'm gonna say has anything to do with what you and Nayeon are talking about but. I feel its the same with English cause of the different dialects and accents. Like in America, England and Australia we all say things with the same meaning but its just different words and accents, so sometimes that's a factor to not understanding someone. I don't speak or understand Japanese so I cant confirm if that's whats happening with Momo but im just taking a guess that it could be an accent or different dialect.
@@Fancyjeong04 ur totally right tbh, shes from Kyoto so she uses a lot of Kansai dialect (I know mostly standard Japanese but I studied some Kansai dialect). Sana is from Osaka and uses a lot of Kansai dialect too and I can usually understand her just fine, but I feel like Momo's speech pattern and vocal tone is also just really different. She has a really nasally voice too and I think thats what gets me. Also good luck with Korean and Spanish!
@@Fancyjeong04 If you want to learn Spanish, learn Spanish from Spain, because Spanish from Latin America is more difficult, in Argentina they speak in a very different way than Colombia or Mexico for example, and in fact, in Mexico we do not all speak the same, in the north we speak in one way, in the south of another way and sometimes we don't even understand our own language xd
What Tzuyu said is so true, it feels so awkward speaking a certain language when you know that they don't understand. I speak Mandarin naturally with my fams but when my non-Mandarin speaker friends wanna learn the the basic, suddenly I forgot everything
@@sureshdeotare9832 I speak Chinese and English. That depends. It's hard sometimes hard to translate the same feeling or expression from one language to another because there's a lot of linguistic nuances that can change the meaning of a sentence in different languages. I think that's why Tzuyu struggled a bit
Growing up bilingual I totally understand the struggle! People asked me stuff like how do you say “I love food”, which sounds like would be really simple, but in my language you don’t really say that cos it sounds really odd?? You’d more likely say “I love to eat” which is sorta not the same thing in English but sorta similar? And I spend a good min or 2 trying to think is there yet another way to say it that’s closer to the English way
@@johnmongver same!! people adapted to “hello” in English, cos the formal way we say hello sounds too...formal! Or we just greet people by saying their name only.
Seems like Nayeon and Tzuyu know the most. Didn’t Tzuyu almost aced her English exams a few years ago? Mina has the most natural accent, but she’s 1000% the most shy. They used to have her do a lot of the English but I think they’re pulling back on those responsibilities, for her mental health. Dahyun is probably next best at English. Momo, apparently, used to be very good at English but forgot most of it as she learned Korean. Tbh, they should have attempt to have Jihyo try the role out because she’s a very good speaker and enunciates very well.
She translated it the way I did “I want to improve my chinese” but it doesn’t mean I want to speak chinese fluently. Switching languages is so hard, especially for me when I want to translate something from French to Chinese and I want the exact translation from my mum but she just can’t cause there isn’t such a thing

I think twice have the best chemistry out of all girlgroups. They all seem comfortable around each other and it looks like they only want to make music because no one of them acts or is in variety shows except for promotions.
Everybody talking about Saida and forgetting that Mina is also there. Dahyun is chiling on Sana AND Mina's lap. She's with her arms open at both sides you know? She even takes her arm off and then puts it back on Mina's lap. It's not only a Saida moment, it's Mihyun too.
That really has to be difficult since every one of those languages are built differently than each other. Crazy stuff. But these ladies work so hard at it! Gotta luv 'em! OT9!
This is what I want them to do when they’re free from work which is learning Tzuyu and the J lines language do they can be able to speak they’re languages fluently.
