This axle had a double life.
Once the original bearing wore out and ate a groove into the axle, there is an "Axle-Saver" that repositions the load bearing area to a new location and allows the axle to run for many more miles.
I had forgotten if I had used the Saver on this axle before - and I had two extra new axles and some stock bearings and seals in stock - er, somewhere in my shop.
Since, I had already used this axle both times, I had to finally replace it.
IIRC --- I used the Axle Saver kit about 18 years ago when I lived in Anza, CA., and I cannot even start to complain about frequent failures at all!
