She was only about eight years old. I’ve seen this video quite a few times now, and I never fail to still get chills from it! The other musicians are very talented, but there’s absolutely no doubt she stole the show. And I’m sure that’s why they invited her!

Prostration is basically an important part of our religion. We go down on our knees and touch the forehead and our noses on the ground symbolizing absolute submission to Allah (God). It is part of our mandatory five prayers a day. When we are overwhelmed it is this position that brings us closest to Allah and makes us forget about this world and focus on the hereafter which is basically our purpose in life- to prepare for the next one by doing good deeds and refraining from evil. So the whole song is about realising our purpose of life and living by it.

just shows how a lot of westerners don't understand religious sentiments and completely misunderstand them, it's just not a part of most westerners culture to have any belief in God and it's hard for them to relate to it, ( i am westerner myself)

@@justahumanbeing.709 anyone will get it in a second, if they decide to perform the sajdah/ prostration, as though in front of God even if they don't believe it, maybe 3 times in a row, and see how they feel after that. it takes a minute or two. Dr. Jeffrey Lang among others have written about this

@@varunsharma9971 Sufi music doesn't belong to India nor is it indian what the hell is wrong with you? Don't lie !!! Sufi music is the devotional music of the Sufis, inspired by the works of Sufi poets, like Rumi, Hafiz, Bulleh Shah, Amir Khusrow and Khwaja Ghulam Farid. Qawwali is the best-known form of Sufi music, and is most commonly found in the Sufi culture in South Asia. However, music is also central to the Sema ceremony of the whirling dervishes, which is set to a form of music called Ayin, a vocal and instrumental piece featuring Turkish classical instruments such as the ney (a reed flute). The West African gnawa is another form, and Sufis from Indonesia to Afghanistan to Morocco have made music central to their practices. Some of the Sufi orders have taken an approach more akin to puritan forms of Islam, declaring music to be unhelpful to the Sufi way.[citation needed] Sufi love songs are often performed as ghazals and Kafi, a solo genre accompanied by percussion and harmonium, using a repertoire of songs by Sufi poets. My sister is a classical music instructor. The raag(notes progression) in this song is 'darbari'. Each raag holds an emotion. For example 'yaman' brings the feeling of longing, pain and love. 'Desh' holds the feeling of devotion/patriotism. Mohana raag is happy feeling of being in love. We are instructed not to use falsetto(even-though it makes hitting notes easy) because it hampers the expressiveness of emotions in music. For a happy and merry song falsetto is good. But for a deep and emotional song it makes the music less serious. The problem with todays music is all songs are starting to sound alike, uses same set of notes. Raag helps to preserve the uniqueness and feel of the song throughout. Hope you are reading this, loved your detailed analysis.

One thing id like to point out, the significance of the lyrics as you mentioned at 10:45. 1. Fight the war within 2. Stun everyone around you 3. Make a small world for yourself 4. Be a wanderer in spiritual ecstasy [leave all your worries behind] 1. Work on your self first 2. Be the best you can be 3. Find what you love 4. Let it kill you [Dive so deep that you get lost into what you have chosen as the direction of your life] All four point are dependant on "Bol Hu". "Say God". As muslims we believe that Allah has promised every single human to ever take birth anything they so desire if they dedicate themselves to what they love!

You’ll find the most beautiful romantic songs in pakistan too, its just that sufi saints have made such a big impact on the subcontinent, & pakistan has over generations held on to old sufi poetry. Now, the current generation has also reintroduced ancient words again through music. However, pakistan’s music is diverse, rock music & pop especially from the 90s!

He was the genius behind the creation of Coke Studio and is known for his ability to fuse Eastern and Western instruments/music. Pakistan has some of the best vocalists in South Asia. This is Sufi music snd philosophy. It takes a listener in a trance like state and a new world where worldly glory and glitter loses its importance. Gives one goose bumps. Glad to see your reaction. Although I understand your need to stop the song several times to analyze it, it is supposed to be listened to with your eyes shut and no pause to truly enjoy the magic created. Besides that is culturally the way to respect the song.

I like your reactions guys, but I am upset that you kept pausing this amazing song in all the wrong places, and MISSING some of the BEST parts of it. Don't interrupt a singer in the middle of their verse. You missed an important segment of Hadia's amazing "banale chhoti si duniya". Just pause during the music and talk, but really, just listen to the versus completely. Annoying interruptions in the middle of the best parts of a song, ruin the pleasure of listening to what is a very deeply spiritual song. If you're really that awed, then go back later, but the first time, let the music flow into you.

Prostration is bowing to God. Hu is Allah Hu, meaning Allah IS, meaning everything is Him, all is Him, He is everywhere, everything else is within those parameters. It is a very powerful vibration, sufis meditate on just Hu and lose themselves in it. Transcendence on Hu. Oh Pakistan also has popular romantic songs, in fact more of those than this kind of Sufi (Islamic mysticism) spiritual poetry. Coke Studio and nescafe has a healthy amount of both, these spiritual pieces are definitely sung with much more full mind body soul presence than the romantic ones. Definitely more intense because of the reverence for the meaningfulness. Hope that clarifies.

Religious imagery is alot more common in music across south Asia. Even in romantic or other songs usage of imagery is common. You mentioned for example prostration as in a fetal position however the word used is 'sajda' which is specifically a religious prostration made in submission to god during prayer. Many words in Urdu (the language of this song specifically) have very specific religious connotations. There's also a cultural element in the sense that alot of our romantic literature is interwined with religious themes. I live in London so I can really relate to that comment about the UK. Music is both celebrated and looked down upon as a career path simultaneously in south asia. This is the case everywhere but there is a bigger stigmatisation there. This means that many musicians do adopt a sufi approach in the sense that they become 'malang'. This is a word used in this song and it's often used in context of musicians or artists who become lost inside their work and focus less on wordly things like money or fame.
