Twisted Metal (1995) Characters TIER LIST 

With Pit Viper, I know they don't come back in any later games but Grasshopper even off of design alone and the fact they're also in a dune buggy is meant to be the spiritual successor. It helps that they innovated a bit with varied special weapons in TM2 as opposed to TM1 where everything was usually a forward-firing projectile of some sort

My opinion of the vehicles of Twisted Metal 1: . Sweet Tooth: I like his design and the fact that the head is directly looking at you gives a creepy vibe about the character, its special is the second most powerful one in the game ( rivals mr grimm's) and i like that everytime you ahoot the special it gives a laugh sound but i do admit its handling its pretty sluggish and acts like a ice skater rolling in the streets, despite this i did a decent time playing as Sweet Tooth. (6/10) . Yellow Jacket: One of my favorite ones in the game due to its balanced stats, its special is like Sweet Tooth except a bit weaker. I found its handling also decent and armor decent too, pretty fun car to play in my opinion. (7/10) . Darkside: Badass vehicle but i do admit its special sucks, i use the ramming attack more often since its more effective. What i like about Darkside its the driver itself ( Mr.Ash) since its looks dark and mysterious. If he have a better special I would have played Darkside more often. (4.5/10) . Outlaw: Pretty decent, its special its cool but for some reason it has a very short duration, its design its good thought i wish it was a blue cop. (7/10) . Thumper: Pretty fun to play as, i love its design and the color they choose as it gives a more charismatic feel to it, its special its pretty strong but has short duration. Its handling and armor are decent. (7.5/10) . Crimson Fury: Cool Car but difficult to use because of its armor and special, i sometimes have a difficult time playing as him, its speed is great but its special is like Darkside except a bit effective, i like the sound that it does though. (6.5/10) . Pit Viper: The vehicle that gives me the most trouble playing as, as much as i like its design being a dune buggy its handling its bad and its special feels weak. My least favorite vehicle in the game. (4.5/10) . Warthog: Pretty Ok, its like driving Darkside except with a bit better of stats, its special has decent firepower but its ramming power seems a bit effective at least on vehicles with lower armor. Not bad of a choice to play. (6/10) . Mr. Grimm: I really enjoy playing as him simply because its special is a almost one hit kill, it has great handling and speed and its literally the Grim Reaper himself. He and Mr Ash are the most badass drivers in the game. (9/10) . Spectre: My number 1 choice of vehicle, i absolutely love playing as Spectre in this game simply because of its sneaky special that can follow the enemy until it hits them, it has great speed and outstanding handling. A very fun and easy vehicle to play.(9/10) . Hammerhead: Very cool to play as but a bit difficult in my opinion because of its slow speed and a bit stiff handling, i really love the color of choice that they give it to him ( since Green is one of my favorite colors next to Black) and its special its pretty effective even against big cars. (5.5/10) . Roadkill: I found its design pretty badass and its special cool, its handling it's ok its speed it's good and has decent armor. While its driver may not be fitting for Roadkill i found him decent since hes like a commander that became an outcast after failing its missions. (7/10)

Curiously Darkside's special is way more dangerous in the PC version of twisted metal 1 (which only saw a very short release only in japan of all places, but modders managed to make it playable for the public in english), in that version the special freezes the enemy too which allows you to line up ram attacks. EDIT: on the topic of TM black outlaw, its a weird case. Crazy-8 was meant to be outlaw originally (there's concept art of the car with an old timey police paintjob), Outlaw was originally warthog (which kinda explains his more military than just plain police theme) and warthog was meant to be a new character entirely, named white knight. Why they did this no one knows for sure.

They had to give Darkside the worst special because his real special is Turbo LOL. I do like how in TM Black the special is a burst of speed, much for fitting.

Darkside's real special weapon is the front of the truck. Being able to blow the horn while you plow into someone is just a garnish. lol

thumper is S tier to me, that special is insanely powerful and his other stats aren't bad at all. design is S tier too

Warthog has insane damage when ramming that's often overlooked, I'd place him in A just for that

Road Kill should be higher. Good armour for ramming, decent special and speed. Solid A or B

Spectre has always been my favorite twisted metal character despite lack of armor and phantom burst missiles does decent amount of damage but at times they do miss there target.

When I played this as a kid, Outlaw and Warthog were always my favorites.

This was definitely the best version of Hammerhead. Even the drivers are the best because their wish doesn't backfire.

I feared you were going to put Crimson Fury in the trash lol! I understand your rating, but he’s my favorite in the series for the same reason you said - a super sexy red sports car in car combat! The later games vastly improved his special.

Spectre and Outlaw are absent in TM4

I have to disagree on the character of hammerhead. It was two high school drop outs, that stole that monster truck. They entered twisted metal for fun and to hear what their favorite heavy metal cds sound like in a gun fight. That's pretty awesome imo, and if they win the dialog between them and Calypso is hilarious, since he doesn't understand what new threads are.

I haven't watch the video yet, but i think i know where youre going with Sweet Tooth in 3. Its the same special except its faster, and although not heat seaking has a nice spread damage. If you nail em without having to detonate though. Ooofa. One of the best in the game. As long as you can stay right-side up that is 😂

Spectre was my favorite in this game.

If there ever is another TM, it'd be cool to have another strong Hammerhead character. This one was my favorite. Hammerhead has almost always sucked after TM1.

The only correct S tier ranking is sweet tooth, specter, hammerhead. Sweet tooth is literally a slow Mr.grim with good armor. Hammerhead has great armor and his special does great damage. Specter is common sense.

C'mon, Roadkill is a total A tier

Darkside is the best character in this game. You can just drive around and ram everyone to death.

Genuine question, Has Crimson Fury ever been good? Him and Grasshopper are usually two characters I tend to dislike in any game they appear. Pit Viper is an OG, but there is no saving aspect to save her from trash tier thanks to that god awful special and overall mediocre stats.

Game is rushed so probably they tested only for bugs and almost don't care about stats in profile. I mean Outlaw 4 armor? Come on. It's like 2. Same with Thumper. Even you say three but they say four and you right. It's looks slightly better then Outlaw.

Here's my tier list judging purely from gameplay standpoint: S Tier: Sweet Tooth, Warthog A Tier: Hammerhead, Darkside, Roadkill B Tier: Yellow Jacket, Outlaw, Mr.Grimm, Spectre C Tier: Pit Viper, Crimson Fury Trash: Thumper

nah you're being too nice to crimson fury, he's trash. He's a great looking fast car but he's awful

Not to hate, but MAN this list is bad. First off, the in game stats for each character are a lie, I mean some of those stats may be accurate but not most. Second, other than Hammer Heads special, I didn't hear you mention ram damage even once, which is literally the most broken mechanic in this entire games meta. I mean there is no way you can't know! Even playing as Darkside, Hammer, or ST you still get shrecked by ram damage from them. Playing lightweights is almost unbearable at times because of that. Warthog, Roadkill, and ST are easily top tier

The vehicle stats in TM1 made absolutely no sense at times. How is Warthog’s armor less than Sweet Tooth’s, when Warthog is a literal MILITARY vehicle?? 😂
