It was rereleased on Sony's "greatest hits" line for many years after its release. In order to even qualify for that, you have to sell over 250,000 copies in a 9 month stretch from release. This game far from "killed" the franchise. In fact IIRC both 3 and 4 both sold better than 2. The decision to kill the franchise came because of development hell and David Jaffe's complete incompetency when it comes to handling anything multiplayer.
