Strasz Yes ofcourse, because TwitchPlaysPokemon was clearly broadcast on atleast one TV network in EVERY SINGLE FUCKING COUNTRY. Twitch got about 36 million views in total. NBC alone averaged 2.6 million viewers every day on the olympics. And that's only the numbers for ONE of the over 100 TV networks that broadcast from the olympics. Also, newspapers and radio covered the events every day. Many of them had olympic events on the first page every single day. Twitch got a few mentions on social medias, and that was it. As you can clearly see from all of this, you can't even compare the amount of publicity between the two events, the Olympics are just too fucking huge.
Anon Ymous I think you misunderstand me. Everyone knew the Olympics were happening, and stuff about it was broadcast all over the world, because it's the Olympics. But TPP actually made much more of an impact, because it's a first-of-its-kind phenomenon, unlike the Olympics which we've seen a large amount of times already. Hell, TPP even got coverage in some german newspapers.
I was not there but the reactions of people of strangers from thousands of miles apart, cheering and strugling to reach a common goal, it brought a tear of Joy to my eye
Yeah. Even though their playthrough is a complete mess, I see something that is beautiful which is something that a regular twitch streamer or youtuber can't just replicate. I also wish I was there to witness it but obligations in life made me fail to do so. WHY DID I MISS SUCH EVENT?
An avian prophet, champion of Anarchy. A fossil god, the divine Helix made flesh. An ocean King, born of the moon. A fallen Archangel, lord of thunder and bringer of Wrath. A mighty Slayer, master of all terrain. A duke of the seas, prophesied herald of the waves. An obviously schizophrenic young pokemon trainer with a good chunk of the internet screaming in his head. Together, they did it. They overcame all obstacles. They overcame every ledge, conquered every cave, stumbled through every maze. They defeated the trolls, the false prophets, the followers of the insidious Dome and his blasphemed path of Democracy. They completed the gyms. They went to the Elite 4. After 16 days, 7 hours, 45 minutes and 30 seconds of trials, heartache, sacrifice, joy, lag, and near-constant consultations of various key items, they defeated this children's RPG. And it was glorious. Praise Helix.
OMG did you know that the Japanese translation for Sky Attack (Bird Jesus's signature move) is God bird? GOD BIRD!!! That's crazy!!! It was changed for religious reasons
The best part was during the Hall of Fame sweep and seeing the comments shower endless bits of love onto our chosen six. It really shows just how everyone got emotionally invested with them. It's kind of touching really.
and this my friends, is the closing of a chapter of the internet history, today we demonstrated that the impossible can be made by the most humble people, just if they work together, that a mountain can be moved by a group of ants, just if all of them participe, that even the biggest fights between sides, can be fixed with teamwork, that nothing, but nothing, can stop the people, that live in the internet, saying these words, i want to say goodbye, to democracy, anarchy, and helix fossil
It was mostly jus button mashing. Not so much as working together. Only time i hear the mob all putting the same command is the B button to exit the PC
Just came back to watch this again... man... I’ll never forget it. I was there for every day of it. Skipped school and everything. Played “sick” and everything. Thanks for the memories!
Will Pierson It won't be the same though. This was special. Less than 20k are participating now. Yet on Red there was upwards of nearly 150 thousand. Plus it was the first and the story lines won't ever be topped.
The teamwork at the end, to take down the evil final boss is amazing: -Bird jesus blinding blastoise so he doesnt get to his friends -ATV freakin surviving a blizzard of a pokemon 20 levels over him, plus disabling his most dangerous weapon -King fonzzz delivering his critic attack of surf -Battery delivering the final blow, with the hopes and dreams of everyone who were with us in the adventure
Holy s*** this battle COULD NOT have been more perfect. John the Zaptist sweeped, but he couldn't defeat the rock titan, then Fonz took it from there and surfed that mf to the ground. "My job is done here", he said, as Bird Jesus took the wheel. And it was beautiful, for to the skies he soared and cast judgement upon his enemy. Of course, he couldn't go down before SAND ATTACK TO THE FACE, to blind his foe and promptly die for our sins. It was then that ATV, the Dragon Slayer, Turtle staller, proudly stepped to leech that big ugly turtle's life and disable his most powerful move. Fonz surfed once more, for old time's sake, for he knew the end was coming. And then, completing the cycle, the Archangel, the Baptist, the Battery, he who was caught under the anarchy of lord Helix: THUNDERSHOCK! "RED defeated BLUE!" Beautiful. Just... beautiful.
Battle starts immediately go for thunder on pidgeot alkazam comes out Another thunder x2 Rhydon comes out thunder doesn't work on it swap to Fonz Surf immediate Swap back to AJ the carry Kills arcanine Exegcutor comes out, grass is strong against electric Immediate Swap to Bird Jesus Motherfucking SKY ATTACK Blastoise comes out Actual tactical sand attacks to lower the risk of blizzard taking out the two strongest mons, both flying types and thus weak to ice Using ATV and fonz to whittle Blastoise down Swap to AJ Dodge the blizzard thanks to sand attack > Thundershock The moment where Twitch Chat transcended into an actual functioning hivemind
God I still love this. I just can't get into the new TPP anymore. This shit right here...the entire experience...it was literally IMPOSSIBLE to put into words. Some may not understand...and I get that. You had to experience it to understand. I am so nostalgic for something that happened 2 months ago...I just want to relive it all again.
I still can't believe my dragons lost to you red!... I still can't believe my dragons lost to you red!... I still can't believe my dragons lost to you red!... 10/10 would watch again
"Our Fossil, in Heaven, hallowed be thy Shell. Your S.S Anne done, your S.S ticket come, in Kanto, as it is in Your Remains. Give us this day, ABBBBBK ( and JLVMNNOOOO, and forgive other fossils, as we also forgive others. And lead us not into the betrayer, Eevee, but deliver us from the ledge and tree. For thine is the Shell, and the Fossil, and the highest Glory, for ever and ever, Amen." - The Helix Prayer (excerpt from the Church of Helix website)
Our Helix, who art in ITEM, hallowed be thy name. Thine kingdom come, thine will be done, in PC as it it in ITEM. Give us this day our daily struggle, and forgive us our democracy votes, as we forgive those who vote democracy against us. Lead us not over ledges, but deliver us from Eevee, for thine thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever, Amen. Now is not the time to use that.
Watching this makes me so happy idk lol. Theres something special about being in chaos with friends and strangers trying to complete a goal, and completing it.
I'm not tech savvy enough to figure out what the heck java or anything is... like I said... Video is how I roll.... but honestly I don't care anymore... having to press more than a single button for something that should be instant.... I just don't care enough to learn that...
It feels incredibly meta to see a game that was already advertised as this global multiplayer experience have its single player component beaten AS a multiplayer experience. And it is awesome.
Can i just say how proud i am to have been part of such an amazing community bringing life to a game i thought would never raise its head again in my generation. You brought so many feels and tears and you brought back wonderful memories of my time as a kid playing this game under the blankets when i was supposed to be sleeping. I know a lot of people would claim this to be the greatest waste of time in the history of the internet, but i believe it shows just how willing people are to work together for a glimpse of the sun when we spent so long in wandering around in the dark. Even in the chat i could see people congratulating complete strangers, something you dont normally see on the vast expanse of the internet. So proud of everyone, all the people who make the memes and the fan fictions, the live commentaries on reddit and the person who's idea it was in the first place. See you guys in the next chapter where i will waste even more of my life with other people who think they are wasting theirs. Lets waste it together . PRAISE HELIX!
