Gonna be honest... The exact moment she said 'I think most of you gamers are just white supremacist.' I immediately mentally said 'You don't belong on the Council.' This is not the state of mind a person should be in when making decisions for rules and policies for a platform. Especially when gamers are a huge portion of Twitch.

I know I’m coming back to this late but as a Black male gamer it legitimately pisses me off that she thinks that we need to be protected by removing voice chat, like we aren’t aware of how we’re treated by certain groups of people in our daily lives. I live in North Carolina it’s fairly mild in my experience when it comes to racially bigoted behavior but it still happens, and we know how to deal with it. Most of our parents raised us teaching us how to deal with racists or toxic people in general. It makes me think she has this “white savior” complex and she thinks she needs to “save the minorities” when in reality most of us hit the mute button and never think about that person again.

i get ur point, and i dont know the 100% context of the clip, but i assumed she meant "marginalized" as in trans people. i've met a lot of trans people who HATE voice chat because they've been legit bullied because they have a masculine or feminine voice while having a stereotypically female or male username, or something. i had to comfort my friend because people she was in an among us server with were calling her a faggot because her user was her chosen name ingame, while her voice sounded male. i'm a trans person who hates voice chat for that reason :p but yeah, i don't think voice chat should be removed all together and i hate how some people pretend like POC are defenseless sensitive babies.

Isn't it odd a Safety Council member, designed to be a transparent and relatable front for the Twitch community, is doing the exact thing the council is supposed to stop? Corrupt, abusive, and drama-prone streamers should not be showing the public how advantangerous or potentially easily abused the new council is. They should remove her immedietally just as a show to everyone: Hey, we aren't letting BS like this pass as acceptable. Or else they just teach us Twitch doesn't actually care and this council thing is just a show for us.
_Corrupt, abusive, and drama-prone streamers should not be showing the public how advantageous or potentially easily abused the new council is._ See, you think this is about sense. Twitch isn't stupid, they know exactly what they are doing, and if it was money motivated, they wouldn't be doing this shit. This is about destroying your home and burning everything to the ground, because gaming culture is harder to penetrate after years of being allowed to run wild ideologically. Steph is a disgusting pervert, and that's exactly what they want to force you to tolerate. It destroys your will.
_Isn't it odd a Safety Council member, designed to be a transparent and relatable front for the Twitch community, is doing the exact thing the council is supposed to stop?_ No. The "safety council" is working as intended.

@@larrisAWSOME see, it doesn't matter if you, and literally every single user on twitch hates this idiot. They have an entire industry that this is a small cog in, and regardless of the actual results, they will receive awards and positive attention from other parts in this machine, allowing them to present the narrative that not only is everything fine, but that this entire charade is stunning and brave. Twitch doesn't work for money, anymore, its currency is influence, which makes sense when you consider that it owns the entire market share for streaming video games, and has no other way to expand but politically. If twitch becomes a better or worse service, there's still nowhere for twitch to go, so now they curry political favors that will entrench them forever.

There's a reason that that happens. People want to focus in on those members of a community that validate their preconceived notions about it, no matter how non-representative those people are, so those are the people they remember and end up publicizing/amplifying, intentionally or not.
It's honestly why I at times try to distance myself from the community as a whole. I don't wanna be labeled as a "power hungry man hating cunt" or a hypocrite, or a pedo or some shit just because 1 person once upon a time said they're trans and also did something bad.

The fact that she's in a position like that she should be held to an even higher standard than the rest of Twitch and therefore she should be more likely to be punished for dumb shit like this.
I think it’s funny, people like her always complain that “white men” never get punished because they are in a “position of power”. But as soon as she gets a position of power she starts bragging about how she can’t be punished.
I totally agree, thats how it "should be" in pretty much any system with positions of power/rank/promotion. Sadly however we live in a nation that is entirely and stupidly under the impression that getting higher in those tiers means being immune to the standards that normal people face. "The law for thee but not for me" has been the deciding attitude from game CEOs, Republican leaders, police, military officers (seriously ask any Marine about how much stuff their CO never reported because they knew it would hurt their image as a CO.) and managers at stores and restaurants. Basically, we live in world where "Who is going to stop me?" is the deciding attitude for people currently. When people with no desire to ever hold themselves or others accountable and promote nepotism and ego trips, society goes downhill. (Insert comments about using the DOJ to hide personal corruption and pardoning political simps here.)
The biggest joke is the list of her qualifications. Stuff like "First streamer to use trans flag emote" and stuff. You know why people normally recognise "firsts?" Because they're hard. First person to break the minute mile etc. Just being the first person to come along to a venue and do something incredibly mundane that involves zero challenge isn't an achievement, let alone a qualification to be given a job with power over others. Imagine if a new cafe opens in your town, and the first gay person to walk through the door and eat a sandwich gets made manager of who's allowed into the store to eat sandwiches. Ridiculous.
I absolutely hate the idea that we have to “play nice” with people like this. There’s tolerance and acceptance sure, I’ve definitely felt like I’ve been an outcast or mistreated before, However this... person... is simply beyond the realm of normalcy. If life wasn’t nice wasn’t nice to me, it’s DEFINITELY not gonna be nice to her and neither am I. This is the type of people in power and if they want to throw stones, don’t throw them from glass fucking houses. The reality is the world isn’t a nice place, but a few jerks in voice chat isn’t gonna kill you. There are bigger problems in life, and the fact that something like this is viewed as “oppression” says a lot about how much ACTUAL privilege this weirdo has. They deserve every ounce of criticism they get.
Videos like this are why I really like the way you address controversy. You go after actual issues and don't stoop to unrelated insults. I'm sure many people talking about this would have talked about the deer thing, or misgendered her on purpose in order to hurt her. Sure you make jokes, but as you said they're harmless fun
Joe Olson you can point out the insanity that is thinking they’re a deer, but fuck off with the actual transphobia. This person is total weird and clearly isn’t fit for the position, but that isn’t because they’re trans.
@@uniquecopy3338 fuck yes my guy, thats the right take, i love how finally we can hate someone for who they are as a human being and not their race or gender or whatever, its so cool seeing people shit on her and still refer to her as a she, btw i know this comes off a not sarcastic but its not hahaha and fuck the guy who called her Kevin or whatever
@@uniquecopy3338 you're right about them being super weird, and definitely not fit for the job. But this whole controversy sparked two debates! One being with that of twitch staff, and the more controversial side debate of that of truth vs ideals being this "transgender". Now seeing as we all know that twitch is being ran by garbage lets go on to the *trans topic.* Now in my humble opinion i think this transgender stuff and everything under it's umbrella is complete bogus made by snowflakes who haven't read a human biology book. I also do say begone with the term transphobic as well because transgender people aren't any different from the rest of us in any certain way except for the way they act, dress, voice etc etc and all that. Unlike the people who like the same s#x, calling someone a homophobe for a justified reason is justified for you are attacking them for having a liking to that of their same gender, in which it's entirely okay to do since it hurts or tampers with nobody or anything. On the other hand transgender takes factual biological rules and even word definitions and flips it on their heads all for their ideology of being someone else and forces it down other people's throats. And if they don't conform to it their transphobic and automatically they're bigot scum on the face of the earth. 1.To put it simply *how you dress, act, voice, behave, and look doesn't translate to your actual gender.* Anyone can dress like you, and act like you. Attatching a special role to yourself doesn't make you anymore special from the common man and woman. When put into question it always leads to the person asking said questions being transphobic because god forbid try getting a logical conclusion. 2. S#x and gender is the same thing essentially. The gender is identified by the s#x chromosomes and the s#x chromosomes are male (XX) and female (XY), the s#x aka the gender of a person is of these 2 s#x chromosomes. You can't rip out the gender part and say it's now interchangeable just because u want it to be. It's not a social construct it's a hard fact. 3. Pronouns! Or to say *they/them*, I'll be honest i won't even bother calling people by their preferred pronoun no matter who they are. It messes up the basic dictionary terms for said words that have been that way for years. *They want to be validated and yet throws the he/she pronouns away just to be stand out and be different when they are honestly not any different from any other man or woman.* Honestly it feels as though we can't mesh together because of the simple thing of truth vs ideals. Other than that i have no hate for them nor do i dislike anyone who identify as trans for the people aren't really harming anyone. I just don't believe trans shouldn't be recognized as a gender for they are just another regular person who just wants to be someone else.
Literally nobody handles this topic as elegantly as you do. I really love how you put things, because you make ideas accessible for everyone, including people that may disagree with you because you don't use any divisive language. Hell yeah brother
@Tiger Tamer actual definition of "degenerate" could actually describe most of the twitch AND youtube. Also no, "white supremacists" as you call them are just as normal people as anyone else, they dont bark out in public because they know they will be harrassed (unlike people that claim white genocide to be a good thing) so...
The term 'cis-white-male-sounding voices' literally makes assumptions about one's identity. Edit: Changed gender to identity as the issue with the phrase isn't gender-exclusive.

A comedian called Lewis Spears had a great stance on this in his video, he basically said if u want diversity you don't hire the first person who brings diversity you hire the best, he was much more crude but that was basically the jist
the thing is, white supremacy here denotes in fact any opinion she doesn't agree with. It's moving the goalpost to seem "no one can disagree with that !" but in fact it's totally a different thought behind it. Same with feminists with "if you're not with me, your against women" - Anakin. You'll also see people with anti-immigration views being labeled white supremacists when in fact, most countries in the world, aside of western ones, actually have strict immigration policies.
@@Gurdil95 It's a motte and bailey approach. The bailey is a defensible position like "people spreading white supremacy on Twitch are not welcome" implying that there are Klanbakes being livestreamed. Then when no one's looking they extend the definition of "white supremacy" to anyone who makes edgy jokes or has any sort of dissident views, which is the bailey. This plays out over and over again and is a rhythmic suffocation of free speech entirely.

chris stamos yes, that’s true, but the way they choose to say that says a lot about them. They could’ve said something like “I understand if you don’t feel that way, but that’s just my opinion” Instead, they apologize that YOU disagree with them, and then when they said that’s a fact of how I feel first, it seems like they’re trying to make that opinion valid and makes anyone disagreeing with them out as the problem, not them. Ending it with, “which is an opinion” just plants a seed that they’re a victim. Like you can’t hate on me for suppressing your opinion, because that’s just MY opinion. It’s like when you give someone advice and you end with, “but idk that’s just how I feel lol.” It accomplishes nothing but gives you an excuse for avoiding the consequences that might come from your statement. I could care less about what she said, even if I agreed with her, I would hate for her to be the representative for my beliefs, because that representation of your views is just so foul.
Bound4Earth I could care less of what she thinks, I just hate how she’s going about it. Some people just don’t deserve that type of power. I’m trusting that the rest of the board has common sense though. She’s likely just a loud minority. I trust that the group as a whole will get the right stuff done. Sometimes you need people hard on one side of a topic to get an actual discussion going
I was looking at more of Charlie's videos on my recommended, and I found it funny that I could tell which videos came before others because of the slight differences in his hair length.
