What bad streaming advice have you seen floating around?
@lincolnvandegriff
@lincolnvandegriff 3 года назад
I heard "don't talk with other people on a discord call while streaming" which doesn't really make sense because if you are more energized with other people in a call, your audience will enjoy your higher energy, and you can totally still engage with your audience while talking with someone else
@Atreyeu
@Atreyeu 3 года назад
Affiliates should be starting and stopping their streams until they get encoding options 😂
@BlackwingKei
@BlackwingKei 3 года назад
@@lincolnvandegriff Well, I'm guilty of actually leaving streams where the streamer is doing that lol I guess it depends. If the streamer isn't really paying attention to their chat, there is a disconnect. If it's all inclusive, then it's a bit different.
@AurynGaming
@AurynGaming 3 года назад
Bad advice mainly from people who have not made it on twitch yet think they can tell others who have to 'stop saying X'.
@Atreyeu
@Atreyeu 3 года назад
@@lincolnvandegriff Usually what happens is people pay more attention to who's in the Discord call than to chat or viewers. Leaving viewers to more observe than be involved. Getting the audio balance right is also very important so those in the call don't overpower you or the game
@YokosoOtaku

I love the picks. Super solid stuff. What always makes me sad though is that there's A LOT of people I know and out there in general who pick "Livestream as much as humanly possible" as the most appealing option to them. When asked about creating YT content it's the same old answers "YT is too saturated", "it's too hard to learn video editing", "I don't want to be a RU-vidr I want to be a livestreamer". And I see those people spend years never reaching their goals. It's very sad.
@Koakuma
@Koakuma 3 года назад
The last one is so true. There's this one dude with a whole room committed to streaming who always recommends the most expensive stuff to new streamers on social media. But when you visit his stream, he's super silent, does not entertain and hardly has 3 viewers. Gear really is not the most important thing of streaming.
@sweatgrenade
@sweatgrenade 3 года назад
Exactly. Gear doesn't build a community. I don't know why this so hard for people to grasp. It's the same as the tattoo fallacy. You can't get a bunch of tattoos and suddenly develop a personality because someone you look up who drips charisma may also be covered in tattoos - the same as you can't buy a bunch of gear and suddenly .... well I guess also develop a personality.
@Koakuma
@Koakuma 3 года назад
@@sweatgrenade True! Of course quality is also important, but it can be build up slowly and highest price also doesn't equal highest quality. I've personally started with a 720p Webcam and Headset mic and upgraded to better equipment over time. Imagine you pay all that money from the start and after 6 month you realize you don't enjoy streaming as much as you thought you would. I also feel like the community loves to see upgrades and development over time :)
@kr4yzie658

Exactly just look at Xqc his stream is very simple no fancy LED lights in his room and etc but still have that many viewers with just entertainment
@TwinShards

I have a over 10 years old Headphone with a decent mic, truly sometime the gears do not matter. My mic did sound like crap with not tweaked setting on my old gaming laptop. Now i'm on a desktop and my mic sound as good as some very expensive mic. Fun fact i had to reSolder all the wiring of this headphone. If i ever end up changing headphone, this mic will still be the thing i will be using and just tweak it so i can use it as not an headphone mic.

I stream 6+ hours a day to just myself every day, for the last four years. I work hard every day to make my stream entertaining. Everyone who finds my stream says I have the quality of a big streamer just without the audience. Lately I've been really down about my lack of success, I hit affiliate which is Amazing but my growth is dead. I've dedicated years.. and it hasn't paid off. Everyone has fun when they get involved with the stream, but then they never come back. My friends won't even watch.
@MikeHawkx
@MikeHawkx 2 года назад
hope everything goes well for you in the future.. maybe switch the content if no one is watching? its hard for new or "small" streamers because everyone is very use to the most famous streamers so small ones dont get attention.. i know fortnite and Warzone sucks but maybe this is an idea? Everyone watches this currently.. just an idea. Firm handshakes from a starter streamer (myself) :)

thanks for the advice 😊 in regards to a couple things, since starting streaming on Twitch and trying to become Affiliate I’ve always played a wide range of games that are very story driven, and have been known to let my audience make the decisions in most of those games. my community is based on helping other streamers out as much as possible, which is why when I get my Discord up and running I’ll have an emphasis on helping out every streamer by helping them out because so many streamers I’ve raided and have check their Rules on the stream and their Discord’s have an emphasis on saying if you promote yourself I’ll ban you immediately. I’ve seen a lot of streamers only stream a single game and refuse to play anything but that single game and somehow they get Affiliate within a couple weeks and they constantly trash talk other people in the multiplayer game and never interact with their chat, which makes me wonder just how they got Affiliate so quickly.

Thanks for making this video, a lot of sound advice and strategy here without all the BS you'd get elsewhere. I started streaming about 6 months ago and literally did all those bad ideas first. Recently, I switched up because I was becoming burnt out but now I feel a lot better; mind you this "switch up" with the improved tips has thrown my community off a bit BUT I'm confident it will be in a much better place for it! Also: That part about the Discord hit me right in the gut, lol.

I was wondering, do you think it would be a good idea to start a new Twitch for streaming/restreaming with a new name after being an observer for years? As for the "one game" rule... I would say stream one game *at a time*. I see plenty of people keep bouncing off games, and while variety isn't bad, there are certain games I wanna watch the streamer finish, but I can't because they keep playing other games. I watch plenty of people stream one game, and I'm SUPER intrigued to see the rest of the game, but I have to wait for SOOOO long because they keep playing other games, and I don't wanna bug them saying "When are you gonna finish playing *this game*?" Once I start streaming a game, I stick to it until I finally beat it before moving on to the next game. The only exception is that every now and then I throw in an art stream or an Among Us stream in the middle of a playthrough. You don't have to agree with me on this, but that's my personal streaming motto.

I honestly don't know how you do it, or... let me rephrase it: I don't know why you are among the _very_ few who do it this way but your videos are straightforward, right to the topic, jibber-jabber and redundancy-free and very informative! It is a huge relief when the title is _actually_ what you're talking about. You wouldn't believe how little percentage of content creators follow this path. Hence the 37 minutes long videos about "how to copy paste a file in windows" :D Yours would be 7 seconds long tops. As it should be. Quality content right here!

Especially the discord server advice I think Is great especially for just maller streamers. I never do like self promotion in other streams until like Streamer friends mention I'm streming too or tell their viewer base to give me a follow if they are interested the kind of content I'm producing though I'm also metioning them in my streams =)... Though I'm, usuallay mainly actively playing games with them in their streams when I dfon't stream, we have a built a small community and support each other... we just neeed to manage our time plans better; that's what I want to use discord for. I have just one question; should I put in the Tag educationla since I am Translating games from English into German and the other way round? I also get asked sometimes by viewers to stick to one language /Game because of the trasnlation and language skills they get if the want to learn... do you think I should keep that up? (I never get in which language my stream is set to)

As a small and new streamer, this video hit home on so many topics!!! My buddy and I started streaming at the same time, and he streams crazy hours, like 8+ hours per day, and his channel has actually shrunk from a month ago where we were about equal. As for a discord server, I use it not to grow, but as a place to communicate with my viewers, for example, I ask viewers to join anytime they would like to share a link related to a game, as I auto-block any links in my chat. I've also been procrastinating video content creation, and I really should get on that, I've known that I need to do this to help myself grow, and I just haven't started it.

The first one is the one I am struggling the most. I like to play games and interact with the chat. There is no direct interaction with viewers on RU-vid. Most of my streams are me gaming, having a chat with my fellow players and viewers. Then something funny and hilarious happens, maybe partly triggered by chat. I've tried to move this on RU-vid Videos, but it felt like the actual fun from that LIVE moment is not capturable in a more persistent video. Of course, I could start doing some sort of "educational" stuff like guides, tutorials or something like that, but I don't feel that this type of content could be mine and that I could identify with.

That was pretty insightful dude not even going to lie. I do spend soooo much time just streaming and really sluggish on making content on youtube from twitch stuff. But I'm not a rush of sorts with gaining a audience or anything I really am just trying to get my foot in the door of the streaming world NOW before i retire from my real job in 2 years. All this info was really informative and easy to follow, legit came across it by accident and glad i did

Love this, been seeing AWFUL tips on TikTok. Really sad to see kids think they need to do "get rich quick" strategies to gain audience, instead of just creating great stuff over a long period of time.

I kinda have a two part question first how would someone go about making good content (I know this is kinda dumb) mainly just unsure due to having so many videos on here is it not a bad worry that some people can see the content as an imitation of someone else? Also, ontop of that then what would be the best way of asking your community on if the content is good and how to go about fixing it/improving it if you aren't sure.

Do you have any suggestions for what type of extra content to make for Twitter/RU-vid? Lately my streams have only had a handful of viewers, none of them have ever made any clips on my channel and there aren't that many funny or impressive moments when I play games. So I don't really know what kind of content to make outside of streaming...

Get creative. When you think of a video idea, and then think "I can't do that, that's too much", those are the videos you gotta do :) What are your passions/skills/hobbies? Things you know more about than the average person. Try revolving it around that. Or learn a new hobby and make a series around it, showing your progress.

Since I gotta work 30+ hours a week I do try to spend all my free time for streaming some days I can only stream 4/5 hours some days im off and ill stream for like 12 hours. I usually average at 5 to 10 viewers however my offline VODs get viewed quite often because some people couldnt catch me online which is nice. I also upload all great wins/clips to my RU-vid for a more edited experience. So far been like streaming for over 1 small year now sitting at 450 followers/16 subs. Could be better ofcourse but im also really happy that I already created a small community out of nothing feels really great.

All of these are accurate. Though I will say the number of times over the years that I've actually browsed new streamers is far more than you think. Either because the streamer I was watching ended without raiding and I want to find other entertainment to keep me busy or just looking for new experiences to broaden your horizons (especially these days when people have been so much more couped up.) Most of the new viewers I'd gotten were mostly just wandering around Twitch and liked my layout, and that's usually how I pick the people I sample in certain subjects as well. I suppose this is where the bad advice of streaming for 8 hours comes from, the theory that "you can't get discovered if you aren't on," because no one watches VODs (unless you're already popular or just have super dedicated fans.)

I mostly agree with the comments. But not the discord one, having own discord is good for networking. Ofc being in a big one is better But harder to keep up with. Thanks to having my own discord it let me grow to affiliate

Stream just one game Also me: I have a lotta games and it'd be tempting to just play all of them and stream all of them.

I mostly agree with this but also hate creating non-live content. It seems annoying to be passionate about Twitch and have to dedicate the majority of time away from what I’m passionate about or have to change my mindset to include YT or TT as part of that passion.

Per trends and Just Chatting I actually hate that this advice is relevant because - by the numbers - I know that eventually this will not consistently be good advice. It will eventually not work for platforms for Twitch because the audiences that this advice works for are personality types which will eventually tire of ANY trend.
