The garden tweet is wild because did literally none of them stop and think that they just woke up earlier so they could do this before work? Or that maybe they work afternoon/night shifts? Yeah, of course. That's what a lot of people probably think about gorillas unless they've read about them or been around them. They bang their chest! Fun! That it's a social display of dominance isn't something people should assume everyone has. However, knowing zoos, I'm sure there probably was a sign explaining that banging on your chest is a show of dominance and to not do it. Because the point of zoos is to educate people! But no one involved read it. They know not to and why now, probably, but I'd be willing to bet that they ignored the zoo's request to not do something and now the zoo has to replace plexiglass. Should you get super mad at them? No, that's stupid. Only twitter would lead you to believe that's the best idea. But, are those a couple of dumbass parents filming their kid ignoring the rules and then having the consequences demonstrated to them? Yes. Yes it is. Hopefully they learned to *read* things.

You’re also making an assumption that there even was a sign there for that specific thing which you don’t even know. @@noavocado The world is, unfortunately, full of dumbasses. That's why there's so many signs, you know! I've worked at museums and zoos, and the amount of people who just... do stuff there's a sign telling you not to do is wild. Don't tap the glass, don't step over this line, don't touch the painting... you can say that people are surrounded by things telling them what to do so much that they tune it out, but it's not like they make intelligent decisions without them. Cause you can't make an intelligent, informed decision about things you don't know anything about. You can tune things out, sure; but someone's gotta deal with it when you ignore warnings. Tap on the glass, hurting the spider inside? That's now someone's problem. Step over a line and mess up an exhibit? That's now someone's problem. Touch an ancient painting, getting your oils on it and damaging it? That's now someone else's problem. Just like this. Without a sign up telling people to not bang their chests, the zoo would be liable for damage if something happened to a visitor because they did. So I'm almost certain there's a sign there unless this is some fly-by-night shady zoo. But the parents of the kid either didn't notice or didn't care, and filmed it happening because they thought it was cute. Now they know why it was a bad idea and the zoo's gotta repair the exhibit and maybe shuffle things around. Probably be closed for a week or so, so everyone else who comes in won't be able to see the gorillas. This is the shit that happens, man! Getting *mad* at them is useless. But people making dumbass mistakes by not paying attention is just the way things work. People who don't really think too much about the environment they're in or have much respect for signs and requests fuck up and everyone else has to deal with it. The best we can hope for is that they learn from it, which a broadside twitter barrage won't do because they'll get defensive.

One of my least favourite modern argument points is the "common sense" argument. Incredibly few things are actually common sense, because everyone is raised, learns and interacts with different things as they go through life. Something you might believe to be common knowledge could be completely foreign to others, for example as a kid you and your circle of friends and classmates could've watched the same show and thus learnt similar life lessons and you grow up believing those lessons about the world are common sense but then you pretty quickly realise not everyone learnt those things the same way you did or didn't even learn them. Common sense is incredibly subjecive and thus arguing on the basis of it I think is pointless. (And bonus personal point: as a neurodivergent person so many things I see called common sense are things I've legitimately never heard of before or didn't know were real, so it's disheartening to see arguments backed up by this specific style of "comeback")

It's funny because people who loudly believe in common sense will be appalled if you tell them that common sense is an assbackward notion - that, to them, is proof that you don't have common sense. I think the reason that so many people were enraged by Daisy's tweet was because of envy. The people who hate commented on Daisy's tweet were so envious of the fact that DAISY got to have a good time with her husband and that DAISY got to sit in a garden and that DAISY is enjoying her life at least a little bit. They acted like they were enraged because there was something morally wrong or politically unjust about Daisy's actions (when there most definitely wasn't), but they were actually enraged because that stuff wasn't happening to THEM. A lot of people on social media are envious, obviously because social media is designed to show us how great everyone else's lives are and how sucky our lives are in comparison, even though that's usually not the truth. But Twitter heightens that envy somehow, I guess because people tend to use it as their own personal diary and that makes it easier for people to see other people's lives and all the little details, which they in turn become envious of. It's really sucky because envy is a horrible thing and not only hurts the one doing the envying, but hurts whoever is being envied. People who envy others want to tear down the people they envy, so if someone posts something good about their life on social media, there's going to be someone who envies it and wants to tear them down for it. The people who were pissed about Daisy's comment basically subscribe to the idea that "if I can't have it, then nobody can."

Yeah like, it's the goal to have enough time to relax, it's the goal to have enough financial stability to have access to a garden. That's the goal. If not for us to have that, then for our children to. The first generation works. The second goes to school. The third gets to take advantage of that and relax. I feel the majority of the current generation is caught up on wanting instant progress for them right now, which is valid, but is not how we progress nor does it allow for progress to be effectively made/marketed. I think the best explanation for this is that Internet conversations never end. If you had these interactions in real life, verbally, with your talkwords, they'd be over in seconds, forgotten in minutes. But because we have them on social media, they just sit there, rotting, for anyone else to find, and the only response you see to it is the one that someone thought to make. That's why the trivial stuff seems to attract the dumbest responses - because the non-dumb response to them would be just not to respond at all because it's literally not worth it. I dunno, I think this explains why people seem dumber on social media - because you don't see the 99% of people responding appropriately (i.e. with just a shrug or with silence) that you'd normally see in real life. None of that explains why people are such dickheads about it though.

I can’t see how anybody could get mad over a couple having coffee in the morning and talking for hours. I sympathize with all the people who wish they could do that and can’t, but really, it sucks so much that people can’t even talk about positive things without random strangers making a thousand assumptions and shitting all over them because of their own bitterness that their lives are unfortunately not as good. And really, the readiness of strangers to assume things about each other on its own is so annoying. I can think of multiple scenarios where a couple would be able to be regular average people with regular average jobs and still be able to talk for a couple hours in the morning, and maybe a lot of those angry strangers could have considered those scenarios as well if they weren’t so blinded by their own negativity.

this is one of the biggest reasons I stopped using Twitter. and also on of the biggest reasons I'm a huge advocate for education and pointing out the negative effects of current education policies (in the US at least) on humanity... if you have to ask "didn't so-and-so *KNOW* ???" it is safe to say the answer is probably "no". and it was crazy to me that so many people would start the process of critical thinking (compare/contrast, making connections between ideas, cause/effect, "why" questions, etc.) but stop short and conclude that because they knew something everyone else who acts differently than how they think someone should act with their knowledge, then that person is acting maliciously or recklessly. but the reality is, all human beings have thoughts and feelings and rationale; whether the conscious/unconscious is well-rounded, "correct", or "fully developed" is not a matter of stupidity unless we all want to pretend like education isn't a public health issue and a communal responsibility. and oh my fucking god that girl's tweet about her boyfriend/husband (i cant remember n I'm lazy) ???? i know how terrible work culture in the US has also destroyed our collective humanity but jfc guys "we get up every morning and talk for hours" could literally just mean "we woke up at 6AM and talked til 9/10/11" doing that every morning isn't like... crazy or anything and certainly isn't a sign of unemployment... its just really sad that even IF you struggle to work (like most people.....) you cant even look at that nice wholesome tweet and go "damn it really sucks that i can't find the time to enjoy life like that, I really wish I could" but no its all reactionary projection its SOOOOO fucking exhausting.

The average person doesn't know how to deal with territorial or predatory animals. Why would they? In what instance will this family encounter a wild gorilla in Omaha, Nebraska? Yeah, they probably shouldn't do that, but guess what? Now they know. The Gorilla is still alive to this day, and is totally fine. Probably felt pretty damn good scaring away another animal testing his dominance honestly. The family is safe and learned a valuable lesson. Everyone wins (except the actual zoo which is a shame but the best of a bad situation.) The real problem with the world is everyone wants to be right. They want to be the smart one. Twitter is literally a cesspool, I’m on there strictly to post art, and it stresses me out SO bad even existing in the same environment as some of these people. It’s like they log on and completely unhinge from reality. So insane to watch from the sidelines.

Honestly it feels like twitter is divided into three sections of fist it’s people who argue about who’s the most right. Then the people who are absolutely insane, like they have just the most disgusting and disturbing opinions in the world. And the rest who are just watching it all burn

"So you're bragging about not having jobs" how was the person confused. If they thought that's what was going on. Obviously, who wouldn't brag about that? Not having a job would be incredible. Some people are so cucked to capitalism, they see getting up early siting through traffic and wasting long hours at a job you hate as virtuous. It's insane. Or perhaps its just the jealousy

Regarding the last tweet about waking up, drinking coffee and enjoying a moment with a loved one: what baffles me is that these people are picking arguments with people they don’t know over twitter. Maybe reconsider your life choices if that’s how you’re spending your free time, whilst complaining about the stress you’re feeling.

The best example of an average twitter interaction was one I heard on one of Hassan's streams, it was something like Tweet: "I like pancakes! pancakes are delicious!" Reply: "oh, so you hate waffles? why do you hate waffles?"

The apple tweet is hilarious to me because literally every retail job I've ever had trains us to not intervene in shoplifting because it's dangerous and they don't want their employees to get hurt. I'm genuinely curious as to what background a person must have had in order to think that's 1. A new thing and 2. A bad thing It's almost like human lives/safety is more important than money and objects!!

the garden tweet and anything that is similar to that tweet is always genuinely so sweet and heartwarming, it's so refreshing to see people talk about being happy when you constantly see negative shit but then people just HAVE to make it about themselves and put the original post down - like if they're miserable then everyone has to be for some reason. it's so silly. a similar thing that i see alot is when people make sweet tiktoks or posts about their happy relationship w/their family and then ppl are in the replies talking about their situation - dont get me wrong, terrible that people have to go through stuff where this effects them negatively, but you don't need to project that onto some random stranger online who's sharing stuff that makes them happy! find a therapist or support group or something, idk.

I just think it's always important not to be too stuck in condemning large swathes of people based on these chronically online takes. I feel like at least in my day-to-day real-life experiences I find that most people are generally respectful and attempt to be aware of the context in which they exist whether or not they know it. It just requires us to cultivate that in others often. Maybe that sort of behavior becoming more commonplace could maybe inspire less chronically online takes. Like we all want very similar things and we all want to feel important, so sometimes making really fucking stupid twitter takes makes some of us humans feel a little more important in this great cosmic absurdity. Perhaps they need to find value somewhere else in life.

working in retail in a grocery store, the first and most important thing impressed on us in training is never EVER engage with or chase shoplifters. you wait for security or management, engaging with people desperate enough to steal in broad daylight does not end well, and companies understand that no minimum wage worker wants to risk life and limb to retrieve a couple of booze bottles. also I could imagine that if employees were compelled by management to confront thieves, quite a few injury or other lawsuits could be made. it's beyond idiotic and quite telling to expect some guy working at a store to willingly put themself in danger for no real reason.

I quite literally appreciate you existing because I've been recently surrounded by a group of people who essentially are "dumb tweeters" and it is relieving to say the least that there is verifiably at least one other human being who thinks like I do [or at least towards arguments like this]. The shoplifting tweet reminded me of one my bud posted in a chat group I'm in. The post was ragging on a guy who quietly and quickly exited a building that was being robbed, leaving his partner/date/sister behind in the process. The OP (as well as most of the comments) were saying what a 🤡 he was for leaving the girl and not stopping the robber when they first entered the building. Wtf was he supposed to do, punch out the ARMED robber and carry the woman out over his shoulder like a cracked out Tarzan? The term "chronically online" is not one I use lightly, but as someone who has actually been robbed at gunpoint, that shit hurt to read.

That little girl was probably just banging her chest because she knows that’s what gorillas do. It’s like when a kid moos at a cow. Frankly, if there wasn’t a sign that said “Gorillas are territorial! Don’t bang your chest, etc,” you cannot blame the kid or the parents for this. People on Twitter despise children deeply and it scares me.

when I got trained for my job I literally got told multiple times that we're not supposed to try and stop a thief, that we shouldn't play heroes. if they have a weapon we just do whatever they ask and let them go. we're only supposed to report the crime afterwards and keep ourselves safe. like it's LITERALLY in the job rules that employees need to stand by and watch the crime happens bc it's more important to keep people alive and safe than to lose merchandise.
