WARNING: A Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress and a Bell P-63 Kingcobra collided and crashed to the ground at the Wings Over #Dallas Airshow. Visit NBC6.com for more. #shorts
I’ve met the crew of the B-17. This is absolutely heartbreaking. There were a lot of older veterans and very kind young men on their crew. I cannot imagine the pain these victims’ families are in.
I kept seeing that specific airship fly by the neighborhood I was working at by highway 67. I was amazed of the beauty of the plane and I vividly remember the red pain on the plane and the turret on the tail area. It’s so sad that it crashed because it was my favorite plane of all the ones I saw fly by today.
this is sad but it was their destiny, I truly believe that all of us have a timeline and our deaths are written, including yours, mine and everyone else. It might have been a horrible way to die but it was meant to be. Just like final destination, if you avoid death, it will come for you no matter if you hide.
@Tehran You comment something so bigotedly stupid, act as if you have superior judgement, and all the while, incapable of grasping the blatant irony. How rich! Thanks for the laugh. 😂
@Tmphone709 these planes were made in the 1930s-50s and usually fly close too the ground, they wouldn't need tecas normally but the p-63 had limited visibility and they couldn't spot the b-17
As horrible and tragic as this is… It makes me realize the hell they went through in WWII when scenarios similar to this played out 1000’s of times over Europe.
@@BesoffenerIslamist So Nazis crashing into allied bombers was saving more lives than killing Hitler, the man that was actively committing racial genocide at a rate that had never been seen before and has not been seen since, the man that is responsible for the deaths of over 20,000,000 million people. I'm not sure if you're pro Hitler or just extremely undedicated.
@@elzach0 if that's true she just went solo and that sad !! Are you trying to say it was intentional or are you just saying to let everyone know something that's none of our business?!?
When I first saw this video I was heartbroken for the family and the planes. These were one of about 9 airworthy b17s left and I’m incredibly sad for both the crew and the aircraft
Its speculated half, if not the majority of US military fatalities since ww2 have been blue on blue accidents. In ww2 it was reported to be close to 30%, so realistically it was probably much higher.
In addition to not knowing (or seeing rather) what suddenly caused their aircraft to go down. Assuming they didn’t see the p63, they went from normal flight, to explosion, to impact within seconds.
The Ramstein disaster sealed the faith of airshows in Germany forever. This country should have learned from that disaster and done the same. If that happened here than this disaster never would have occurred. Oh well. Play stupid games win stupid prizes.
I WAS THERE TO SEE IT. My little sister pointed out two planes to close to the ground. And my mom ( in the military) saying that’s probably the crew of B- 17 she telling us stuff when I noticed that they looked a bit to close together and then they just crashed together. My sister stared crying because she said the people on the plane are not ok and need to go the hospital. I hope there families are ok and healing very well.
@@babyigotchomoney in some 80 year old aircraft with that size fireball? If the passengers and crew were not killed on impact they likely died soon after they hit the ground.
The smaller colliding plane - the ghost-like silver plane (a Bell P-63 Kingcobra) that comes in from the left rear quarter and collides with the bigger dark four-engined vintage Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress - has virtually no visibility downward and forward; while in its highly-banked, steep turn this means the P-63 pilot could not see in the precise direction that the B-17 lay and was coming from. Subject to a subsequent determination that the P-63 suffered a mechanical failure or its pilot suffered an in-air stroke or became otherwise incapacitated in some way (unlikely events given the degree of controlled flight exhibited by the P-63), in my opinion the pilot should've paid more heed to the downward-and-forward visibility issue and planned his course better to keep himself clear of the B-17. The P-63 had no business performing such a turning maneuver in close proximity to other aircraft, especially when such other aircraft were in a spot the P-63 pilot could've anticipated them being in; very poor, irresponsible, arrogant pilotage by the P-63 pilot i.e. pilot error. Another key question needing an answer is: why were these two aircraft operating at the same altitude in such close proximity to each other? Didn't an airshow plan have them keep to separate altitudes? But don't mind me - we'll have to read the final NTSB report on this incident in about a year to know the definitive most-likely explanation. But it is extremely unlikely that the P-63 pilot will not be found to be a primary culprit in this incident, with the other significant share of blame belonging to the CAF itself for its poor flight plan for, and control of, this air show. The B-17 pilot is blameless in this incident but there is no way, I'm sorry to say, any of the four to five B-17 crewman survived this collision, nor could the P-63 pilot have either. This is the best, most informative footage of this incident I have seen so far. Way sucks all the way 'round. What I first thought of when I saw the video footage of the collision and crash to the ground was that the pilot may have suicided it. One thing is for sure, the pilot of the smaller plane clearly was not paying attention to where he was going if it was an accident. This is what you call an epic facepalm moment! RIP all who passed... ✝️👍🏻🇺🇸
Many people thought it was part of the act. Several US Military pilots have been fighting for 23 years to stop flyovers at sporting events. They cost $400,000 each and Risk the lives of everyone plus we are at a ballgame having fun.
In the '70s I was at an air show and I was sitting in the restaurant looking out the window and it was so quiet in there and I saw a small plane just nose dive down and crash and it just felt like nobody noticed because of the quiet it was very bizarre moment felt a little bit like the Challenger moment
To everyone saying this was intentional: It’s important to consider that the P-63 was banking left, away from the B-17 and at a slightly higher altitude than the B-17. The B-17 was essentially in the P-63’s blind spot. If the pilot knew how close he was, it was probably already too late. Thoughts with the families of the victims and any possible survivors.
Especially with P-63's. Those planes are touchy as hell to fly safely as it is. Crazy mistake made here. 17 crew never had a chance. I just hope no one suffered.
The fighters were flying an inside pattern and one KingCobra went wider on the turn into the path of the 17, who was flying an outside pattern. Still...a terrible loss.
I was conducting living history near the crash site at the camp area I actually never heard the crash I remember some kid was yelling that and exploded happened and I thought it was a regular pyro but it later hit me that one of the b-17s crashed
I was sat at home on the other side of the world,so i never heard or seen the crash either, but i thought i would add a comment aswell,so i can also make it evolve around my self at the time. None irelivent RIP
I can't go to another air show, I say to have myself stay at home with my dad and my mom and Aiden and my 2 girl puppies and kittens,Are you serious?!oh my gosh who WOULD THOSE PLAINs COLIDE INTO EACHOTHER?!!!!
My theory about this accident is, P-63 pilot lost sight the B-17 for a few seconds, i think because P-63 was flying a little higher in altitude than bomber, that was just a blink but was enough to become a tragedy, two historical airplanes lost but mainly 2 or 3 great and experience pilots have been lost today too. Only a miracle could have saved the pilots. All our condolences and prays to them from Mexico.
@@ramirogonzalez563it wasn't even that serious, buddy caused death and destruction cuz he wanted to catch up. If he had been patient, or communicated with the tower or people in the other planes, he could've avoided this disaster. Its so dangerous to "wing it" at an air show, especially considering how low they are flying. You have no altitude to work on a problem in flight. A little bit of patience could've avoided this whole thing.
@@prestongreenbay6336 ah I see, I was commenting before the accident report had come out so obviously didn't have the full info. Thanks for the update!
Yes. Such a sad loss of life and of a historic aircraft. This is one of the few air-worthy B17s left. And one that had actually been flown in combat. Just tragic
Seems like the smaller plane was turning towards the bigger 1. Maybe due to miscommunication or technical problems. Either way it's tragic. Rip to everyone involved
@Jack Meeoff bro you cannot be serious typing on a comment by saying "loser" and haveing a transformer pfp in 2022. aswell as makign fun of somebodys dead dad lol
This is Sooo sad! Prayers for the families! I know how this feels to lose someone in this manner. Lost my own grandpa to a plane malfunction when he was giving a new pilot his final test. I was supposed to go that day! For my first time in the air with pawpaw, (I was 5 yrs old) but it was moms birthday so she wanted me to wait till the next day, plus wanted me to wait till pawpaw would be the actual pilot. So I didn't get to go, and pawpaw died on mom's birthday (yes her daddy). And I still have survivors guilt to this day. Rest In Peace PaPa!
We can never know what fate has in store for us, leave the house 1 minute early or a minute late could change you're whole world....don't feel guilty how could you have known, and I'm sure your family is so happy you didn't get on that plane that day.
@@user-hs2nm5is2fthe fact all of them risk their lives to make us happy (when they don’t crash) in the car racing community and the aviation community is heartbreaking. I’m from both of those and each crash where someone dies is extremely tragic and emotional.
P-63 and B-17 both didnt have a plane sensor, which means that they didnt know they were gonna crash, this is so fatal, and also my condolences to the familes that just wanted to go on a trip, i feel so much grief.
That little plane blew into pieces. Trying to see what might have been it's pilot falling to the ground still strapped to his seat, but it looks like he fell straight into the explosion and flames of the larger plane. Put, at that low height, were it not for the explosion and flames, there might have been survivors. Must have been absolutely traumatizing for their families to see this happen! What a terrible way to go. 😢🙏🕊
@@4thjulycali Oh, I thought you were referring to loss of life in general, at an air show. Not particularly it being necessary that 2 planes must collide in this manor for death at an airshow to be considered a 1 in a million event. Please disregard my previous comment and let the record reflect that I have now changed my opinion and I now agree that this was a one in a million event.
@@HyperInflation2020 yeah @blancolirio does an in depth analysis and explains how this tragedy happened but I 100% agree with you as well that too many tragedies happen at these air shows…
What a hella of a way to die. Fought in a war came back about to retire and flying a plane built in ww2 to celebrate the occasion just to be brought down by an accidental collision
Omg just imagine the families being there and proud watching up at their family member(s) flying and seeing that in real life, in real time. Holy moly, that’s got to be the most traumatizing thing ever. Prayers 🙏🏼
I saw a video from a couple on the other side of that mc donalds sign they were so sad and they sounded so caring May all of these amasing veterans and young men rest in peace
I heard about this accident about 2 am the morning after it instantly broke my heart. I was in total shock. May the flight crew of both aircraft and the Texas Raiders live forever in the hearts and minds of all those who loved them. God bless them all.
@Pr0BLeM? Always has to be one like you in the crowd! Obviously when someone says prayers to the family it is comforting for the family if they are Christian and strong believers in God's plan for everyone. God gives us free will to destroy each other and all that does is renew the earth. There's no reason to try to explain what you think about God when it's obvious you don't understand anything about the Christian religion!
Dang, you can see the P-63 slicing off the back part of the B-17’s fuselage, then the P-63 breaking up into hundreds of pieces. Shortly after the B-17 plummets into the ground, horrible. 😢
This B-17 was parked for several years during the 1980s at the airport where I learned to fly. It had suffered a terrible landing mishap at this airport and was nearly a total loss. Only through the extreme dedication of volunteer mechanics was it able to fly again. It took them YEARS of work just to repair the worst of the damage to get the plane to the point that it could be ferried to another airport where the rest of the repairs could be done. This plane was outside on the ramp the entire time. There was no hangar on the airport large enough to accommodate it. The volunteers worked in the heat, rain, snow, ice, and bitter cold until their job was done. I doubt that any of the volunteers are still living. I’d hate for them to see what became of the airplane and the death toll from the crash. 😢
What sucks is not only did they lose their lives but 2 pieces of history were lost (B-17 super fortress and P-51 Mustang both planes were in service during WW2)
@John Hennessy, I was thinking the same thing. The way the P63 was banking and turning, his own wings and aircraft would have blocked his vision. Likely a blind spot for the B-17 as well. Only tighter air traffic control or better event scheduling could have possibly saved them.
The power of that bigger plane hitting the ground is something I’ve never seen or heard before in my life, I’ve only ever seen smaller plans crashes and this one definitely hit different…
The fighter plane that was involved in the crash is notorious for having very bad visibility and they would not have had much time to react. It was an accident.
Why can’t they all collectively decide to have the smaller planes (the P-63) to follow a rule of not going below a certain altitude ie the one that the B-17 and all other slower planes could stay at they would never collide so long as they all stay at the proper altitude they should always be able to see infront of them; this was obviously the smaller planes fault he put the B-17 in his blind spot beneath the nose of the plane so sad he was not aware enough of his surroundings.
@@kurtbarker3303 it seems we have a bunch of pilots and accident investigators in the comments section.....🤔 i know what it was..... they were bump drafting.....🙄
🌹 I'm sending my prayers to the families and all those who are watching this live🌹Please forgive me, but is it just me or did that looked it really strange? Did it like that was done on purpose?👀😭
So, are we finally at a point where we can all agree that *air shows* are worthless and dangerous? I have no idea how anyone can justify the risk of these things anymore.
You do not need to come out saying that we should stop these airshows, mishaps happen all the time people were there to admire the fine warbirds from the past and inspiring children but it took a turn for the worst we should not ban stuff like this things happen we need to accept and move on
It’s military propaganda, pure and simple. It’s not heroic, it’s not glorious- it is meant solely to justify war and indoctrinate people with the idea that war is normal and OK. Reliving and glorifying war is a sick fetish.
Terrible accident but let’s be honest it was pretty quick must have been less than 3 seconds before the b17 hit the deck. That being said it was enough time for people to realise things went south fast. Such a shame
