So whenever there is a "clear coat" called for in powder coating, it's actually a clear powder? I was under the impression it was a clear with an hvlp gun like a paint. Guess not. And you wouldn't dare use that type on powder?

Do you monitor the temp of your oven? I have an oven that varies upwards in temp. about 15 degrees too high during the last 5 minutes of baking and that causes orange peel for me. I use a thermocouple inside the oven to let me know the actual temp. When the temperature starts to drift high, I just crack the door open a bit for a second. I have to babysit the temp until the end. The point is, make sure that your temp is stable and be sure that it is set to the specified degree.

I’m a novice PC er and I’ve been spraying the illusions on my tumblers and your spot on about everything especially reading the online tech sheets prismatic powders supplies you with all there powders. So far I’ve had good luck with my Eastwood dual volt gun and the illusions series...I’ve only had an issue trying to do a second coat on some 3/4” recovery steel shackles....the first coat gloss white did great, but my topcoat bright green would stick every where except a couple of small spots and it would not take no matter what. I blew the green powder off, cleaned it and tried again and it would not stick to the same area! Any suggestions?? Also prior to any powder I removed the galvanized coating with vinegar overnight then cleaned it and out gassed it for about 30 min once it hit 400. I have several of these to do but I need to do a topcoat on most of them with transparent powders. Do you think I should try another color combination or a different brand powder? Thanks man!!!

Try turning tour voltage down on the lower setting if u have not done so. Make sure u have a good ground to the part. You may need to heat it a bit prior to coating. Any time you blow a part off with air u need to reheat to get rid of static.

That gun will give u fits on wheels just not enough powder. I'd try coating when the wheel is about 200 degrees Fahrenheit and start with lugs and tight corners, do smooth flat areas last. Good luck!

Can someone please help me understand? I’m very new to this i just bought a 4x4x6 oven that we haven’t even got in yet but I’m doing as much research as i can. The question i have I’ve watched on RU-vid and seen hundreds of different answers. My question revolves around multiple coats and clear. 1) everything i see says you should always use a clear coat for durability and to keep the chrome colors bright. 2) where I’m confused is multiple colors for example if i do chrome and let it cure as recommended do i put the transparent on when hot or back at room temp? 3) when putting on the transparent color i put back into oven. Let part get to tell and do the recommended cure time. ( will the chrome coat being cured twice hurt it)? 4) when that comes out do i add the clear when hot or room temp? After i add the clear and put in oven and let part get to temp and cure at recommended temp. ( will the chrome coat going through 3 cycles and the transparent 2 cycles hurt them)? I can’t seam to find anything on this that’s consistent
@RightNowPowderCoating
@RightNowPowderCoating 5 лет назад
If your doing chrome you have to clear it for uv stability, it actually dulls the chrome though. Its suggested to always spray cold, spraying hot while it seems easy to get coverage can lead to applying way to much and having drips and or runs. Once coated for second time you must do a full cure again once part hits correct temperature, it should not hurt base layer.

You shouldn't need to clear coat chrome unless you're trying to change the gloss level? And if you are respraying an item let it I cool but make sure nobody touches the actual item. Chrome is best done once and left alone unless you're trying to do a twin colour job. Which sucks 😂

Hi! Can you tell me why are you turn down the KV's? What is the reason why you do that ☝️ Good Video Dude
@RightNowPowderCoating
@RightNowPowderCoating 5 лет назад
We usually do wheels at around 50kv, then we turn it down to 25kv, about half to do clear or any second color. The reason is if you build up too much charge it will create back ionization, which looks like star bursts in the coating. The reason is the base coat prevents the second...third... or whatever coat from finding a ground point, so less charge less issue. Great question!
@lukigasser5975
@lukigasser5975 5 лет назад
@@RightNowPowderCoating so that means you shoot the first layer on about 50kv, the second, thirt and maybee the fourth all with 25kv? Or do you use on the 3. layer only 10kv? How can you see how much powder is on the object? It looks the same if there is more or less on it ? 😝

probably under cured your chrome and it reacted with the clear since it was still curing. i always leave chrome in the oven more than the suggested time. also apply it very heavy as it tends to look orange peel-y otherwise... also depends on the composition of your chrome. you should research the differences between bonded and unbonded metallics.
@RightNowPowderCoating

Chrome will never look like chrome once its cleared. It will always dull it. It's very important to fully cure the chrome before adding top coat.

Second coat.... hot flocked it...decided not to put the clear over it....it looks so good I don't want to mess it up....this was my first poder coating. I used my vapor blaster to clean the part. Scrub part clean with dawn and water. Baked part in oven 450 for an hour to de Gass it...then poder coated and baked 400 for 40 min...then hot flocked then baked another 40 min...I'm still learning but it works for me

dude... you are over complicating things. Keep it simple, when do we use single stage, when do we use dual stage, what is the benefit of each, and don't use verbage we are not familiar with , without explaining what that word means. What is 'hot flacking' you speak as if we knew what that means, also you refer to "KB" ,...dude we don't know what that means, you have to explain those terms. I know it makes you feel knowledgeable but that is not why we click on here. Also you heat the item and don't bother to tell us if we need to do the same, and how and why. Its common sense questions dude, use your head.
