Went to all there shows in Hartford CT from 2006 - 2012. And I'm glad I seen him play. Definitely the best concerts I've been to. They always sound amazing.
This song represents so much to me, while working on my house after Katrina, Blood, sweat and tears, I had someone help me that being female, and having not help this person gave all he was the best to help save my house and we had a special bond, and at the end of the day I would play Dave Matthews and we could take a moment to escape! When I had no one, this person was there and this song is for him.
I passed it on and when he even had another girlfriend, I was always the friend, which took care of him, A friend once, that helps you is always a friend for life.
I was always his friend, went through trying to help him, even with the girlfriends, always the go to, unfortunately, one of them let him slip and he died. But I was glad to be there when I could. I was sorry to hear of his death. Did what I could.
+Kay Clyburn That breaks my heart K. Always remember that time after the flood. You both did something special, and your sacrifice is never forgotten. May you find the peace you and your love deserve.
Damn, that's crazy...I'm from the coast too. And I started listening to Dave and John Mayer for the first time after Katrina...to get some peace, and therapy I guess...rap music not good to listen to nonstop when you live and work amongst all that destruction. That's crazy as hell tho. Small coast.
Definitely will always come back here. When I think of good music, I think of this incredible demonstration that we will never be able to see again. This is definitely a piece of history...
I still remember seeing them play this at Red Rocks: it was the encore. The sun had just set and a thunderstorm was rolling in behind the stage, lightning flashing.... I'll remember that moment forever.
This was the encore June 11 2001 @ Giants stadium. It as the song built a horrific lightning and hail storm rolled over the stadium. Dave has spoken about how it was the most amazing scene. We got drenched. So worth it. I have it on a bootleg you can hear all the lightning strikes.
This song has the best intro in music history in my opinion. And to be there when the crowd loses their minds the minute it starts being played is magic!
Two Step from Red Rocks turned me on to DMB. I still loved artists I'd respected in the 60's,70's.. so a 90's band that had MUSIC....creativity....originality..... thank god. This may not be THE ultimate Two Step.. but... may be the best on Video. It's sublime. It's intensive. I feel GOOD now.
I have been watching / listening to this version off Listener Supported almost 20 years now and it never gets old. I'm 40 now Dave Matthews Band became my favorite band in 1996. 22 years later they are still about 70 to 80% off all the music I listen to. They just never get old. Now I live in the same city he just bought a new house 2 miles away from me. I prey to god I soon will have the honor in meeting Dave Matthews someday soon. He truly is just an amazing person with amazing talent.
Something i really love about this band, is every member is a rockstar. Every Dave Matthews Band fan gets excited when any individual member is highlighted during any song.
Listening to this song and some how it brings back memories after Katrina. At that point all I could do would play music when your home is almost gone. Hard times. Boiling water for a bath. Tough times, but music helps to get through any hard times. Good music that is! Love the acoustics. Awesome singer Dave of course and awesome Drummer, that kills it!!!!! Love Love!
Dave was in Colorado just after Katrina, I am sorry for your difficult times... Dave asked for musicians specificifally from New Orleans to come to Red Rocks... and they did... Rashawn Ross had just hours to prepare, and it was the greatest concert ever. They played the Weekend then played another day to donate all proceeds to Katrina... I hope you are well.
Great version. I was at the concert at Giants Stadium on 6/11/2001 when they closed the show with Two Step. THAT was my favorite live version ever. For those there, they will never forget. The lightning, thunder, and HEAVY rain was surreal during the song.
"Still I lean on friends of mine, brothers and sisters, hoping that in times of trouble I might lean on them more. But lately I swear might my dreams are wearing in me, this ship is troubled. Only cause this ship we're on is sinking." classic two step impromptu at the beginning... dave is a legend
don't get me wrong :) "Still I lean on all friends of mine, brothers and sisters, hoping that in times of trouble I might lean on them more. But lately I swear, nightmare dreams are welling in me, This ship is troubled only cause', this ship we're on is sinking" That combo jam soul taking moments are truly beautiful. I miss playing... I miss my friends.. the ones I lean on.
Saw these guys in the 90s, at the "fleet center" in Bos, can't remember ever being BLOWN AWAY like that, never before, never since. Amazing, all I can say is Thanks DMB!
Alexandria Sanders My favorite memories all have a DMB concert involved. I've seen them in so many venues. I never tire of them. This is hands down the best version of 2step. ever
so, been to over 100 shows, probably seen Two Step about 40 times or so, and this is clearly the best version every. well done on the title, cause it ain't no joke.
I love Dave's emotion at the end of the song... nothing like doing that perfect version of a song, and he knew by pumping his fist towards Carter that they had nailed it... love DMB!!
This brings back times of my late teens/early twenties. I see the folks who are that age now doing the same thing I was 15 years ago.... going to Dave Matthews concerts. I think DMB is the Rolling Stones on my generation: they'll be playing shows for a long time to come. Hail, hail DMB.
Ludwig van Beethoven would have been overwhelmed in admiration of this performance. The thematic unity, the endless variations...the collective performances
I used to get stoned and watch this DVD with my friends in highschool!! Well, I don't get stoned anymore, but DMB is still very much a part of my life and always will be ~ Probably the best performance they ever did here.. Such incredible NRG and in perfect sync! Boulder was a BAD-ASS concert, too.. as was redrocks '96, ok f*k it, they're all amazing.. Thankz for all the beauty thru all these years, Dave!
My parents introduced Dave to me the day before fourth grade started. I listened to them that night whilst taking a shower. It was the best thing to ever happen to me. I started with "Under the Table and Dreaming." And, if I could re-live a shower I would chose that one. I soon moved onto "Crash." Then "Before These Crowded Streets" and so-on. But, the moment I heard "Two Step" on the "Crash" album, I somehow "crashed" (see what I did there?) into Dave even more. I now have made a Spotify playlist with all of his songs. Ever. That is our family's go to playlist on road trips. Dave Matthews has certainly changed my life in many ways.
Listener Supported is an album by the Dave Matthews Band, released on November 23, 1999. It was recorded live at Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, New Jersey on September 11, 1999. In addition to being the third live release by Dave Matthews Band, Listener Supported was filmed by PBS for an In the Spotlight special, and the entire concert was released on VHS and DVD the same year. The title of this release is taken from PBS's "supported by viewers like you". It is currently the only Dave Matthews Band live album to not contain the date or location in the title. This is because part of the broadcast agreement allowed PBS to release their own audio CD version of the television special. Listener Supported was also the first live release to feature keyboardist Butch Taylor and "The Lovely Ladies" on vocals. In addition to songs from each of their RCA studio albums, Listener Supported features the previously unreleased songs "#40", "True Reflections" (sung by Boyd Tinsley), and the heartbeat intro to "Pantala Naga Pampa", as well as the full band versions of "#36", "Granny" and "Long Black Veil".
This looks and sounds like "Listener Supported", however, I would also get "Weekend on the Rocks" I can see Red Rocks from my home... So I am not biased . Get them all ....anything live... and live is good :)
RIP Leroi Moore we still miss U. Mighty here from d Philippines. I never knew til now I've seen dis vid that Stefan Lessard used a slide on his bass! WHOA!
Can't get enough of this.....and I wouldn't want to. Saw them for the first time at the Greek theatre in Berkeley on Aug.30th. I haven't been the same since. Waiting for the day I can see them again.
Still have this video saved... this is that song that will live forever... and be song that lives on forever. I can't believe how much this song has impacted my understanding of music, time, and cadence... I will never be famous... but I can dream that I will be in the same moment as this band at that same moment.... so beautiful.
it's because they'd keep playing and playing. have you ever been to one of their shows? their encores are like a complete other show lengthwise. and it's amazing.
It would be cool but the Superbowl isn't the right venue for these guys. The SB is all about 30 minutes of hype and poppy crap. D.M.B is meant to be enjoyed to its fullest not cut down and choreographed featuring the radios newest flavor. I don't want Bruno Mars and Beyonce jumping in to the show every 2 seconds and ruining good music.
Carter and his pink bubble make me smile every time, LOL! I just crack up at it. I love this song. The version they did of this at the Bowery room in New York around the early 2000s (I can't remember the exact year) was just as amazing. Carter is just ridiculous. Love this band forever.
Very very very very nice music!!!! The man playing on the little black uke' rocks!!!! I'm not a big-time follower of Dave Matthews Band, but boy, after a few listens on RU-vid of their live performances, it is now on my bucket list to see them live!
Oh, it is?? Ha-ha, I feel dumb. I thought it was a shiny little ukelele. Didn't look too closely, I guess. (And that man's manly physique just overpowered the tiny instrument maybe. Tee-hee.) Thanks for the correction. :)
DMB in their prime was (my opinion, so don't get butthurt) the best live-performing band of all time. No lasers, no explosions, no flying circus clowns dressed up in drag spitting fake blood, there is nothing to distract you from their beautiful, awe-inspiring and downright badass musical spectacle. It's the perfect mixture of everything you want from a concert. Their songs can create beautiful moments with your significant other that will make you two fall in love with each other.
Always wished I could have seen DMB play. Been into them since I was 11. It was this song that grabbed me, made me need more of the band. I've bought all of their albums since, and all the ones that preceded Crash. Two Step will always be my favourite Dave Matthews Band song, hands down.
These guys look like they're having the time of their lives. Where its not about the money, prestige, or ego. Its about the music. They are in the moment. That moment when the crowd is tuned out. All you can feel, all you want to feel, is the music. The connection between each other on stage. An amazing feeling, an amazing performance!
I was at this show back in the day! It IS the best version of Two Step I have ever heard and I feel so lucky that the show was recorded so that I can forever remember this out-of-this-world performance when I was a young, 21.
My last one didn't either. One time we were driving and someone had a bumper sticker that said DMB. I said oh look, a dave matthews band sticker... and she was like NO it's not.. it must stand for something else.. I told her to Google it and surely enough, there can only be ONE DMB!
85.000 fans walked along the perfect line between summer and fall, lost their voices, and wished for eternal slumber in DMB land. Central Park '03 will never be duplicated. I'm so glad I was there.
I didn't have time to actually scroll through all the comments, so I'm not sure if anyone mentioned this, but the best live version of Two Step is Giant Stadium. 6.11.01. Just google it. I may be dating myself by saying I was there because it sounds like there are some new and young listeners on this thread. (Awesome btw) But, it was the most epic Two Step played live to date because of the extreme coincidence, or what some say was an "Act of God," that occurred. Anyway, still appreciate the sharing of this video, I just wanted to make sure this was atleast mentioned so people ca look into it.
Steve Corsale Scrolled down these comments just to see if anyone mentioned that Giants Stadium show. I was there in the rain for that as well. Hands down the best concert moment I have experienced. Can't imagine a more epic performance of this song after experiencing that. The whole experience and the chants and atmosphere leaving the stadium was amazing. Truly a special show. These kids these days don't have a clue, ha.
Steve Corsale I clicked on this hoping it was that!! Nothing will ever top that. EVER. I'm 99 in and that was the best show of my life. I have goose bumps right now just thinking about it.
was that when ozomatli opened for them or was that in Philly I saw them! lol can't remember but dmb's been my favorite band since graduating high school in 98
The one at giants Stadium in 01 was hands down the best version ever. I doubt there is a person who was there who would dispute. That show would be the one I relive, if I could. I believe Dave has actually been interviewed saying it was one of the best shows. I honestly don't remember who opened. I may venture to say Macy Gray...?
I was at deer creek amphitheater and they played this song as an encore. As the crescendo of the intro surfaced it started storming. One of the coolest concert experiences I've ever had.
My heartbeats faster and my eyes fill with tears and run quickly down my old wrinkled cheeks as I listen and watch Dave and immortalizes himself deep in Two Step best live version. WOW ! Is it. I am 77 and female and Dave's music puts me in a whole new world of music that I love and can't get enough of. Thank you God for such talent and love.
ryan tejeda I agree with you there. But Jeff Coffin does a pretty amazing job. His work with Bela is second to none. He has massive shoes to fill and he really does make magic with the DMB
Caught Dave at Jazz Fest and was great this year!Love his song about Grace! I lost a friend that helped me through Katrina. So sad over that going a difficult TIME with SomeoneI was WITH for 30 years..In Nashville Dave played and many do not know he played Crush for his Wife. He is a great guitarist.. I feel he loved his sister dearly and the accident really caused him grief! So Dave keep on playing my friend! It helps us all! And hey we think of Grace when you play!
Hurricane Katrina introduced me to Dave Matthews. After, I scoured the internet for their music, and found John Mayer, and discovered Kings of Leon...a gift from tragedy. Haven't listened to Dave in years...glad to be back. Serenity, peace, soul revival. Beauty in deep, dark space. Peace.
Practice makes Perfect! Superbowl mostly chooses Popcorn bands I swear. We need to start a petition or something. Actually, they did choose Tom Petty before too.
Dave was in San Fran to promote Sanders, we need him now to organize a following of Bernie Sanders effort to mobilize progressives to DUMP/TRUMP and so on.............
Prince had arguably the best Superbowl performance ever. . daves music just isnt very fitting for it. At their best jammjng a song like this. For 15 mins haha wouldnt really fit with a sb performance
Yes I agree this is awesome, but sorry, it's not the best live Two-Step version ever. Anyone who says so wasn't at Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, New Jersey on Monday, 6/11/2001 (The Great Hail Storm Performance). Everyone who was there that night and stayed until the very end of the show knows EXACTLY what I'm talking about. The water that poured from the sky as soon as Dave said, "Let it Rain" during the opening chords, the hail that began to pelt the crowd midway through the song during the instrumental, the lightning that relentlessly forked through the sky, the thunder that continuously echoed for the entire song and came to a crescendo moments from the finish, the band playing on despite the very real threat of electrocution (for them and the crowd). By far, easily, the greatest and most intense 10 minutes in live music and concert history.
what a classic DMB song i love how they jam for awhile.I got to seee them played in NJ about 3x there a must see band live and this is prb one of my top 5 songs from them thx again a big fan from NJ,,
