How many coats of epoxy do you use at the end? Just 1 coat or do you do a 2nd coat before it's officially finished.... I just did 2 cups using your method and Oh My Gosh how easy and so thankful for your video!!

Oh wow awesome, I'm so glad it helped!!! On these I only did one coat. Some techniques require 2 coats but the woodgrain and the crackle usually only do one good coat.😉👍

Unrelated (and you may have already tried this), but have you tried using a super-saturated urea+dishsoap solution as a masking layer? It results in an almost crystalline effect. If I remember correctly, you put down a light colored basecoat, let it dry, spray the urea solution over the top, let it crystallize, spray a dark colored coat over the urea, let it dry, then rinse the urea off leaving the crystal pattern.

I LOVE your videos!! My first attempt was a disaster!!! I watched your video several times to be sure I didn't miss anything. I painted a tumbler white , sanded it, got the wood stain on it and when I went to seal it with the spray you use - the entire tumbler bubbled up instantly! Was kind of a crackled glass effect - It looks fabulous in the trash can! No tears - moved on to attempt #2 with a tumbler that I purchased pre-painted. It worked perfectly! The take away is to purchase the pre-painted tumblers I believe!

I know this is 4 years old now but I'm new to tumblers and I absolutely love this cup! Did you have to use the clear coat to seal the second layer of alcohol ink or did you go straight in to epoxy? Also, do you think you could show how to make knots in the wood grain? LOVE your tutorials! ❤

I know this is one of your older tutorials, but I love them all! I have a quick question though - I did this tumbler over the weekend, and I did the first lighter color alcohol ink (I used Tim Holtz Ginger for that). Then I sealed it, let it dry for about an hour, then added the stencil and used Teakwood over and around the stencil. My question is - how long do you let that dry before removing the stencil? I think I let it go too long, because my stencil pulled some of the Teakwood alcohol ink up, so you couldn't see my deer anymore! lol ;) Thank you for taking the time to teach - you truly are an entertainer!

I take it off as soon as it is dry enough to peel up. Another thing is that you want to make sure your tumbler is sanded and prepped properly otherwise it will pull the 1st layer off

Hey, awesome tutorial! I love that you don’t spray paint between alcohol ink colors- I think that causes more problems for me than it solves! One question though: do you spray seal after the second coat (post-removal of your decal)? I worry about the ink smearing if it isn’t 100% dry. Thanks!

I do most of the time, but I didn't for this one because I wasn't worried about smearing because they are both browns, although I made sure everything was completely dry and cure

I did. I'm not sure what happened I even sprayed the enamel clear coat in-between each layer. My vinyl was stuck to the cup good. It still turned out awesome and he loved it. But I've got to make another for my nephew now 💙 so I want it to be perfect.

I found the problem it was the vinyl. I used a different one and it pulled off with pulling up my work 😁 I also made sure to do extra coat of the clear coat and give it time to dry.

Thank you. 1• I usually like to try to start with a white powdercoated tumbler (it saves me a couple of steps as opposed to starting with a bare metal tumbler). I wet sand it with 600 grit & wipe down with rubbing alcohol. I typically like to start with a pre-prepped white tumbler from Steel Magnolia so all I have to do when I get inspired is grab, do a quick wetsand with 400 grit, wipe with alcohol and go. The stencil material is Cricut Removable Vinyl

First of all, this is the first time looking to do a wood grain tumbler. And we I first started this video I was like what.....YOU MADE ME LAUGH SO HARD!!! Thank you. Now to questions ??? What vinyl do you use? For each step what is the times in between, the first clear coat to applying the 2nd alcohol ink, to the epoxy? I really have enjoyed watching your videos, very informative.

Thanks! I use Cricut removable vinyl. I usually wait at least an hour for the spray sealer to dry before I move on to the next step. Then when I'm finished I typically seal it all and leave it over night then epoxy the next day if im mot in a hurry

How many coats of clear coat did you spray after the first wood grain color? I sprayed one coat and still had a little bit of lift when I remove the decal. I sanded the metal cup then washed it then sprayed it with the etching primer two coats and then two coats of the white spray paint. Only the alcohol ink and a tiny bit of the white paint lifted. By the way I absolutely love your videos for both the entertainment value and the educational value!

Thank you! I like at least 2 but most of the time 3. Also, what did you sand the bare metal with before etching primer? You gotta be pretty ruff with that stuff. I used 220 grit - I wouldn't go any higher grit than that for bare metal, and always sand in 2 directions

Great tutorial! Maybe I missed it... but did you spray another matte clear coat after 2nd coat of Alcohol ink...before epoxy? Other videos I've watched say always spray cc before epoxy to prevent alcohol inks from running/messing up. Just want to be certain before I try this! :)

I love your videos! Do you ever have trouble with fisheyes when you use alcohol? I had to remove adhesive from the bottom of a cup and it caused fisheyes only where I used the alcohol. But then I see other people use alcohol and have no issues

Okay mister, I'm hoping you can help with some questions: this looks like a lot of alcohol ink...does it go really fast making these bottles? Also, when I'm making my cups, my resin will sometimes be wavy or have little pot holes...what am I goofing? Also, did you do clear coat before or after taking off the stencil? Does it matter which way? What type of vinyl do you use? Appreciate your videos and help! Fantastic as always.

●The inks go a pretty long way, and luckily i have a link in the video description for just the browns used for woodgrain. ●When i put my epoxy on inwatxh it like a hawk for the first few mins, if i see and resist spots i rub them really good with my gloved finger then wave my magic torch wand over it. ●I do seal before and after the stencil ●I am usin Cricut Premium Removable Vinyl

Did you spray paint it before epoxying or, if the bottle is already colored from the manufacturer, you can just rough it up? I enjoy your videos! My question is about your chip brush. It looks like you just use that for alcohol inks, so do you just let it dry after each use with no washing of the brush?

Why does my alcohol ink on the wood grain tumbler bubble up when I spray on the sealer. Ive made these before and had this problem but kept at it until I finally succeeded but I would like to know what I'm doing wrong so I don't have to keep re-doing it all the time. I have 2 questions: 1. What am I doing wrong if when I pull my sticker off the ink comes off too? I put clear coat on. 2. Do we put our 2nd set of clear coat on before or after we take the sticker off? Thank you. I really enjoy your videos and have learned a lot.

Sanding and prep is the most important. then basecoat color. The 1st alcohol ink woodgrain color. then seal with Rustoleum 2x Matte Clearé. Then stencil (has to be removable vinyl, not permanent). Then 2nd alcohol ink woodgrain color. Then remove stencil and seal again

What is your secret to getting wood tumblers to be bubble free? I have found that regardless of using heat or seeing a smooth finish, when I come back to check them on the turner, bubbles have developed. I've tried to stir slowly, warm my epoxy in a water bath, use different types of mixing cups....same result. Particularly on the wood grain, small bubbles come up, causing additional layers of epoxy and turner monopolization!

I tried it with black vinyl and I removed it, it pulled away the color down to the white paint. Did I not put enough clear coat on or did I leave decals on too long?
