He overextended two BCs at the start though, which felt really awkward. If he had that first and second BC around, I feel like this maybe could've ended earlier.

That's one reason why Golden Wall is so great, IMO. The way the map is designed, with so many chokes/ramps (especially at far off bases that are very hard to defend as a mech player usually), while also keeping enough open spaces around the map to balance things out, allows a lot more positional and interesting mech play like this. I hope we get more maps like it, it's a shame it won't be staying around. Usually maps have far off expansions be in very open areas that are easy to push, so usually both players just expand on their side of the map and don't consider taking far off expansions. And when maps are cleanly divided like that with your first 4-5 bases very close to each other, it tends to make games like a tug of war of (i fight on your side, you fight on my side) rather than having small skirmishes and positional battles all over. You just push out and attack their newest or most vulnerable base usually. And if you lose a main fight, all your bases are close together so the game tends to just end. We see many games like this where a Zerg has 5 bases clumped up for example and a big econ lead but Terran has 3 and wins 1 fight convincingly, so there is no time for the Zerg to bounce back or utilize their economic lead to try to make a comeback. It feels anticlimactic. But if maps allow your bases to be more spread out, it can be more chaotic like this game; you need to win lots of small battles to close a game out, and it's not always clear where you should exactly be attacking and what route to take to travel there. The top-center bases for example have small ramps as chokes and are on high ground, so doing things like spamming static defense at the choke with a few units like Lurkers/Disruptors/Tanks to make pushes cost inefficient becomes much more viable (just like BW). All that said, I'm really really happy we got a game like this before it rotates out of GSL, especially with Mech!! And especially with how the game turned into a "top vs bottom" layout, which is something I've been really wanting to see out of this map. I feel the game could have went on quite a bit longer if Stats just made a couple better decisions but I'm happy enough. (At the end he could have warped in ~6 Chargelots vs those naked Tanks instead of Stalkers, and earlier when Stats tried to push up the ramp to retake his main, Stats should have warped in Zealots at his expo that was still alive at the bottom left, and flanked from behind first.)

Theres is no fucking way in hell terran wins becaude of everythibg u said. Terran is op and you can clealry see why. Protoss is always the undergod and terran just makes ez static defense ez splash damage and ez bio with ez dps and gg ez win for terran. The director of sc must be terran because that race is clearly imba. Cry me a river

@@Droga24.7 lol. I mean, Stats was 9-3 against Terran players in this tournament going in to this match, beating Maru, Inno, and Byun twice in best of 3s or best of 5s before this point. His PvT was literally the thing that got him in to the round of 4. But, sure, definitely T being overpowered, not TY analyzing those games and developing a perfect strategy to fight it. :p

You sir need to submit one of your matches to Harstem’s “is it IMBA or do I suck?” Btw, Harstem is a Protoss player, so should be on your favor ;).

Its not about the retreat, there's nothing Stats has at that moment that can do deal with the BCs. There's only 4 archons, 1 stalker, 1 voidray and a phoenix. Even if TY has no other ground troops he can still move in to Yamato and get out with all 4 BCs alive.

phoenixes for the terran are very usefull, he probably though there will be banshees cause he seen tech lab at starport, so phoenixes are amazing for banshee, for medivacs, ravens they are also great vs mines which is very popular style from terrans, they can do scv rides, during the battle they can lift a tanks and turn them off. Also you need some flying units to avoid many harasses and clear the deadspots where stalkers can't reach. So they are very usefull but they are weak vs heavy units like thors and bc and that was just stats bad luck

When you have the apm of these guys phoenixes are very useful. It's almost free damage. The only downside is that you don't have early robo for defence.

His Zealots died to a bunch of Hellbats, so he probably assumed TY had a lot more Hellbats guarding his tanks.

@@Sir_Tomoyuki but stats did kill a bunch of hellbats right before he tried to jumped the tanks with stalkers. Pretty sure he saw how many tanks there were in that earlier engagement..

@@_Wai_Wai_ But he doesn't know if there were reinforcing Hellions or Hellbats. We know TY had no Hellbats left because we can see the whole map, but Stats didn't. He didn't have vision.

@@Sir_Tomoyuki but why would he assume more hellbats are on the way, after killing a bunch of hellbats? He didn't kill much tanks.

@@_Wai_Wai_ Like I said, he wouldn't know because he doesn't have vision. We can see the whole thing, but Stats can't. Fog of war. He wouldn't know that he killed all the Hellbats. Also, he's reinforcing his Stalkers, so why would he assume that TY wouldn't be reinforcing his tanks? He probably also has the Battlecruisers in mind, since Zealots can't shoot up.

Zealots would’ve been a terrible option with BCs and hellions there. Yeah, he stalkers weren’t great either, but with all his tech gone it was either: A) Unit that is good vs tank but melts to hellions and can’t do anything vs cruisers Or B) unit that isn’t great against tank, but good against hellions and can still shoot down cruisers. I can see why he did what he did.

lol? mech is the only one chance terran can lose game to toss, I assume you are blind and brainless so let me explain why in this match stats was dead since the 1:07 but still survive because mech is such crap, because stats goes into adept+phoenix vs TY BCs so the only one thing this match is proof is mech is so crap that stats could win it anyway if he has no idea what TY is doing, in the final battle if he didnt blink at the siege tanks at the end but if he send some zealots first he still might win

he had a lot of luck that stats choose the worst composition in the world to fight bc which was adepts+phoenixes , he was also lucky that stats missed the fusion core and still TY barely won, struggling for 20 minutes, and tbh Stats didnt have to quit, he should warp a zealots and go for the tanks with them, it was pure siege tanks! I think he needed to go to toilet thats why he so suddenly get out
