Tying a kink free trace with AFW Surflon Knottable wire trace  

Hi, I simply tie the same perfection loop in fluoro and loop to loop it.

I've used 40lb, just pull it really tight.

@@bbarrybarnes Yeah that seems to be the problem. I figured I needed at least 40lbs for muskie fishing. But when you have to pull everything extremely hard to cinch, it seems like a kink is almost unavoidable at that point.

Hi Charles, thanks for your question and feedback. I’ve never tested un knotted vs knotted, or crimped. However I’m sure any knot weekend it slightly, but I always select the trace that is strong enough for the job in its knotted state. I believe crimping weakens it more, as it crushes it. I do loop to loop and again, any connection is a weaker point, but if you’re using a well balanced setup, you’ll be fine. Never had an issue with wire cutting Fluor, bearing in mind AFW is round and plastic coated. The loop makes it nice and clean and easy to remove the trace, retaining the loop in Fluor, if your trace gets damaged or you want to take your rod down. Always make sure the loop is a figure 8, rather than wrapped around the other, as that definitely weakens it and is hard to undo. This will usually happen when one material is much thicker than the other, so not balanced.

Haha, ya the idea was not to demo the knots, but the trick to avoid kinking. However, there are loads of videos on knot tying.
