You couldn’t wipe the smile off my face watching this. I remember as a young teenager think those Indian necks were awful expensive. Lol. If my younger self could see what I’ve paid for a Metz or Whiteing neck he’d pass out. Also probably learned to cuss from those old neck and hackle breaking. Use them now on that Welsh spider that I’m not going to even try to spell. Thanks for the memories! Cheers!

Just tried this for the first time without piccata, but the actual parachute method is hands down the best and cleanest way to tie a parachute. I appreciate the 40+ years of knowledge that went into this method, and I hope that I can use it over the next 40 years myself. So dang clean with dense beautiful hackeling.

Nice little fly! I'll have to try posting the hackle as you do; parachute hackle is my Waterloo, frankly! 😅

Simple pattern, "well you make it look simple" one I think I will tie for the isonychia hatch here in Massachusetts! Thanks Dave I love to watch you tie ❤️

Thank you for this pattern Davie. I have a limited amount of basic material following a “moth attack” in storage but have everything for this. My old capes will be great! Thank you!

Davie, watching your videos is a pleasure. You make the best flies in the world out of the cheapest materials. When someone asks for a tutorial on how to tie flies, I always recommend your channel. You are simply the best in the world. Thanks for everything you do, because on your videos I learned how to tie flies and today, anglers want my flies in their boxes. Warm greetings from Poland and all the best in 2023!

how often do you buy new scissors? do you have different scissors for different tasks?
@DavieMcPhail
@DavieMcPhail Год назад
Hi Half Insane Outdoors Guy, A cheap pair of 4 inch razor scissors which is the one I like will last me a good 6 months or so depending on the flies I am tying . If I tye a few salmon flies some hair can blunt the scissors quicker than just cutting feathers..I will get a few more months from a better pair like the Fulling Mill ones..I also like to use a small pair of curved scissors for deer hair.. All the very best Davie

@@DavieMcPhail interesting. I've got several pairs, but the ones I liked the most were risen brand, they were inexpensive but had a nice tip. Recently I noticed the tip wasnt cutting any longer. Though i do not feel like I used them that much. They lasted 3 months or so.

May sound strange but you can improve an old pair of scissors by gently “cutting” the neck of a thin glass bottle a few times Difficult with small scissors but definitely works with big ones! Done it hundreds of times when cutting thin glass fibre material which takes the edge off the scissors………..for another hobby of mine. A thin glass rod would be good …..if you can find one!
