As the name suggests I use nayat (snow runner) in this articulated roach pattern. I wanted to demonstrate how I like to tie with nayat, which hopefully will provide you with some ideas of how to get the best out of this cool natural material. I've also added some synthentics in the form of a dubbing loop, which adds width to keep the desired shape in the water. Lastly if you haven't tried the new white Flashabou from Hedron then you need to....it's awesome!

Nice pattern thank you for sharing! Also, this is exactly how a tying vieo should be done, 2x speed, low volume non-agitating music, good lighting, great detail! Other video tyers should take note! Thanks again!

This would be killer at 1/2 size for Smallmouth Bass! I'm guessing it's a neutral fly as not sink or float? Seems it could be very versatile!

Really cool fly!! what is the different between Foxytail and Skeena Nayat..? length?
@paul_monaghan
@paul_monaghan 6 лет назад
Having used both, yes length with Skeena being the longer. Both are very good hence my recommendation depending where you are in the world.

does icelandic sheep the same job like nayat? or to use synthetic fibers like funky fibers? Im from Czech Republic
@paul_monaghan
@paul_monaghan 6 лет назад
You could use both and I have done. The soft EP Fibres are prone to tangles from experience so need to brush them regularly. Icelandic sheep is softer, thinner and less coarse than nayat so you don't get the same volume. If you only have sheep available IMO I would blend it with JBM Pike Skinz or SF Blend just to add a bit of volume when shaping the head.

John Watson search for Snow Runner as it's called also. I believe it's a breed of goat. No 100% sure on that
