I'm from rural Tennessee in the blue ridge mountain chain and their is not much here !The song rings true and this guy had a good southern dad that loved him !Point im trying to make is listen to your dad he loves you and just wants a better life for you. This song made me cry and im not the crying type !But it made me so happy to know my son was listening to what i was telling him !

Daddy worked like a mule mining pike county coal. He messed up his back he couldn't work anymore. He said one of these days you'll get out of these hills. Keep your nose on the grind stone and out of the pills. See the ways of this world just to bring you to tears. Keep the lord in your heart you'll have nothing to fear. Live the best that you can and don't lie and don't steal. Keep your nose on the grind stone and out of the pills. Daddy I've been trying i just can't catch a break theirs too much in this world that i can't seem to shake. But i remember your words lord they bring me to chills. Keep your nose on the grind stone and out of the pills. Keep in mind that a mans just as good as his word. It takes twice as long to build bridges you burn. And there is hurt you can cause time alone cannot heal. Keep your nose on the grind stone and out of the pills. Matthew 7:11 in the New Testament's Gospel of Matthew is part of the Sermon on the Mount and reads, "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?" This verse to me means everything & to you I pray it means more. We can be wicked in the flesh. Yet we show grace & kindness to our children. If we are that wicked and can do such good for our children, let it comfort you that God in all his glory has something truly glorious waiting for you.

This song hits home....myself a grandson and nephew to Eastern Kentucky coal miners and unfortunately with a love for the pharmaceutical opiates ,an epidemic both in rural KY as well as the city like I live in (Dayton OH)....we all have our demons we have to fight and the hills are full of drugs but they are also full of beautiful souls making unique music.

This song means so much to me. I’ve had two friends just OD in the past month. A year ago my dad passed from a semi truck crash. It seems like all the people close to me keep dying. And all I can do to get my mind off of it is put my all into my work.

This song is absolutely amazing. My mom used to tell me a lot of these expressions and they came from my great grandfather who was a coal miner in West Virginia. He passed down his Appalachian wisdom and these words were used umong many Scotts-Irish. These are our roots.

Ten years sober from pills. this verse " there's to much in this world I can't seem to shake". Gives me chills BC even in recover it still feels that way. But I now have the tools to deal with them. My pops sent me this song and I can't stop listening to it. The struggles are real, just don't give up.

These live performances are better than the studio produced tracks on his albums, quite frankly. Just something about the sole acoustic performance makes me feel like I'm a kid listening to my dad practice guitar at night from my bed again. The studio produced versions just seem too... fake. But this, right here? This is the best shit I've heard in a long long time.
