Tyne and Wear Metro - Metrocar 4075 leaving Hylton Street Yard and North Shields on the back of an Allelys low loader, heading to Wabtec, Doncaster for refurbishment
What a fantastic video Alex....really enjoyed that. Its amazing how they seem to get these manouvres right first time every time now. Glad the load didn't do a 'Torvill and Dean' acrosss Coach Lane in the wintry conditions :-)
Thank you very much Allan, yes it definitely takes some skill to weave a Metro through the streets of Newcastle, but I guess practice makes perfect, and they're doing it no bother now. It was weird seeing it slip down the ice on the gradient of the roundabout though!
There's something wrong when Network Rail and service operators are more expensive road transport. As fun as it is to watch these moves you have to ask, is it safer, and is the inconvenience caused to road users really worth it?
I suppose it depends where its going, there may not be any direct railroute. Unit may have been decommissioned/have faults for some time and not fit for mainline service.
