like I said, this isn't an extensive explanation of edm, just some examples of some major genres in kpop right now. kpop is literally known for experimenting with genres so I'm sorry if anything is inaccurate. this is all based on online sentiment and personal opinion. at the end of the day, genre is subjective. the best I can give you guys is a few key words to help you look up similar songs. If you have any questions, ask. I'll answer them as best I can!
Hello. Can I know the genre of these songs? I love these songs and it seems like they have similar vibe, but I'm not sure what are the genres😅 Ateez's dazzling light, utopia, and promise BTS's I'm fine Seventeen's run to you
Lol it reminds me a lot of European EDM, that's really the only type I like (mostly cause my mum showed me it at a very young age) and I've always loved how it sounded so that's mostly why I got into Skz lol
I asked a couple of people why they didn't like the edm drop in Kpop songs and the main answer I kept getting was that they didn't hate the drop, but they just wanted to hear more vocals instead of instruments in the chorus. But I agree, the different elements used to create such interesting sounds is fascinating😊
The fact that most kpop now a days is mostly EDM that’s what really drew me into kpop, I’ve been a huge fan of EDM for such a long time and knowing it’s in kpop too really got me into it
Saaame,I just love EDM and love the fact that people start to accept EDM as genre, not just like "noises".I can't tell you how many times ppl tell me that EDM isn't true music and how I can listen to it,that's why I got so much into Stray Kids and their concept,it's just soooo catchy, especially Miroh.I think they'll be really popular in EDM world one day.
@@dani3l194 do you have any other recommendations because I really enjoyed the song and I'm a sucker for songs like that. Sorry if anything is spelled incorrectly english is not my native language.
i hope people don't hate on stray kids for making edm varied music. It hurts when people go around criticising them bc i love their music and you don't
You shouldn't pay that much attention to them. You can love whatever and understand that not everyone can enjoy SK's music. It's not that they have no taste just that SK's music doesn't resonate with everyone. I used to think people were criticising Fake Love way too much because I love that song but once I realised it's not everyone's taste, I simply move on trying to understand their perspective. HOWEVER SK are in a massive hate bandwagon(okay maybe not as much as BP) right now so all those hate can result to that.
@Aiman Hariz hey, disliking is okay and we're not forcing you to like them, but comments like these are very inappropriate. you could have said something like "i personally don't like their songs" instead of "their songs are shit," because i, and a lot of other people, don't agree with your statement.
Honestly tho, using an outdated genre like that and turning it into a masterpiece. The choreography, the lyrics, the vocals, the rap, and everything else was just so perfect.
Thank you finally someone said it. I hate it when people say it's just random sounds and was poorly made. It is probably my favourite title track from skz besides i am you. I was really really impressed with the arrangement of that song. It truly is a masterpiece.
Psytrance isn't really a genre for me, that's why Side effects isn't my favourite song of Stray Kids. But nevertheless I have to admit that the arrangement is soo good and their chereo shows the message of the song well. :)
Side effects was sooo good first listen I loved it. It was unique at first but more kpop groups started using it. It's not a bad thing i just find it surprising and awesome
what it sounds like to me (most terms probably used incorrectly) just what i felt as i listened lol future bass: a deep bass with high synth line on top deep house: deep feeling bass like a blue colour tropical house: summer vibes, higher pitched synth, c and f major feeling like orange? moombahton: chaotic, brassy rapidly shifting high pitched synth, repetitive but catchy tune trap: snare vibe, more mechanical, like a gear squeaking kinda, a thin squeaky noise, can be 'dirty' psytrance: fucking tripping pretty much, light percussion with high repetition electro swing: definite old vibe like 80s bounce: similar to above, sounds like fake brass, Saturday night disco vibe synth pop: 90s vibe omg, late evening feeling/end of day
moombahton: i don't know if it's always the case but in all these examples the dembow rythm (used in reggaeton but nowadys in all kinds of pop music) is really prominent
Honestly I find people who bash EDM to be so silly because it's such a vast genre with so many subgenres; there is something for everyone out there! I personally despise Future Bass but I looove Deep House and SynthPop... You simply can't hate EDM, and by extension KPop, as a whole.
Some time ago I thought I didn't like EDM, because I had no clue how much variety there is. There are a few EDM songs I dislike but most of them are actually hella good. I guess most people just don't know about the, as you said, many subgenres.
me not even thinking what genre of kpop i listen: just simply listening the songs i like. *then i realized that about 80% out of these songs are on my playlist* well. edm was not a choice, it chose me-
I wish there was more psytrance in kpop tho. Side Effects is the biggest bop and I was so happy when I found out Silent Night was also in the same genre.
oof I mean yeah everyone has different taste, but HOW can you not like edm, it's such a broad genre and makes you just feel good by listening. (I swear when Stray Kids dropped side effects my techno X kpop heart just exploded)
@spacey editz I mean, I was trying to only name a couple, but we also got 'Sleep-walking', 'Trap', 'In The Frozen', and now 'Can't get you out of my mind' lol. Idk if Diamond counts as an EDM track though. I agree it slaps hard, but it's still mostly distorted guitars rather than synths and shit.
Future bass: hopeful, dreamy, dystopian ya movie happy end Deep house: trendy background music while shopping, youthful and some buttshaking Tropical house: the classic beach scene in anime, fun and happiness overload Moombahton: aka how to make friends in latin america, twerk till u drop Trap: badass fight scene or go down on some wild dance floor Psytrance: hypnooootic, kinka like 90s on drugs Big room: edm festival with thousand people Electro Swing: neon colors and petticoats Synthpop: 80s are back Bounce: jump jump jump
I'm surprised not a lot of people realize that a lot of kpop songs are based on EDM and tend to put kpop songs above EDM when in reality they are very closely related imo. People probably think of noise music as all EDM is when it can really be a lot of different things, as best exemplified by this video.
wow this was really helpful i had no idea about all of the different types of edm! i felt you did a really good job giving examples of each. do you know which one flash by x1 would be considered?
What can we say? SHINee are pioneers. They're the reason alot of your faves exist. If it wasn't for SHINee, a good chunk of the kpop industry simply wouldn't exist. SHINee introduced loads of idols to kpop before they knew what it was.
I find it funny how some stans say they don't like edm even though a lot of their fav kpop groups have songs that have edm in them. I also find it funny when they say that edm is "noise." Like, do they not know that noise music is for alternative rock and other genres similar to rock.
Deep House can be such a hit or miss for me but when I like a song from that genre i get obsessed with it, And There Was No One Left and Dejavu are prime examples
Honestly nothing beats that song when it comes to successful experimentation...I hv never heard a song like that....some might come close(some tracks from dreamcatcher and some soloist I forgot the name) but still nothing beats that song for me....I was a stay since that era!
@@laeminiscence yeah it is. Both belong to future bass but the difference between bounce and house is the kick drums. Its more future house because of the drums but its close to future bounce. Either way, amazing song 😍
apparently deep house and tropical house are in lots of my favorite songs. and there was no one left, our summer, why edit: also trap me, say my name, double knot, DUMB LITTY (kard uwu) also SYNTHPOP! platonic love, i feel you, oh my mistake
The fact that I didn't know anytging about edm but knew all of this songs (I started digging into edm after yesterday I watched Taeil(NCT)'s 24 hour relay - he played Overthinker and I loved the drop)
