The perfect exterior facade will not only make your building stand out but will protect it from the harshest weather and add years to its lifespan.
In this video, we’ll break down some of the more common exterior cladding materials available to consider for your next project.
Aluminum Cladding
Aluminum cladding is lightweight and durable, and has a wide range of color options, finishes and design possibilities.
Alumitex®, Elemex’s aluminum facade system, is available in two materials: aluminum plate and aluminum composite material or ACM.
Aluminum plate is a high strength, low weight aluminum alloy sheet that’s corrosion resistant and has excellent formability.
ACM is a lightweight flat panel made up of two thin aluminum sheets bonded to a fire-rated non-aluminum core, designed for both interior and exterior applications.
Brick Cladding
Brick cladding, or masonry, has been used as exterior building facade for centuries.
It is fire resistant, holds up against harsh weather, and is easy to clean and maintain. It is also installed with a gap between the cladding and the exterior wall that allows for proper ventilation and moisture protection.
Brick offers an array of design possibilities, and is available in different colors, finishes and styles.
Sintered Ceramic Cladding
Sintered ceramic is made by grinding down different natural materials then compacting them into one solid slab using extreme heat and pressure.
That material can be formed into lightweight cladding panels, like Elemex’s Ceramitex® - Sintered Ceramic Facade System, that are extremely durable and long-lasting. Ceramitex® panels are large-format and available in a range of colors and textures that open up a world of design possibilities for architects.
Fiber Cement Cladding
Produced in the form of clapboards that can resemble brick or wood, fiber cement is typically manufactured using a mixture of water, cement, sand and cellulose fibers.
Fiber cement offers excellent protection against the elements, is often long-lasting and usually requires little maintenance.
Glass Cladding
With an appearance that’s hard to beat, glass building facade is lightweight, resistant to harsh elements, and gives architects an impressive range of design options.
Glass cladding can be installed using several different systems, including curtain wall, window wall, storefront and as part of a rainscreen.
Solar Cladding
Elemex’s solar facade, Solstex®, is a rainscreen system and a building-integrated photovoltaic system that harnesses the power of the sun to lessen a building’s dependence on fossil fuel energy. It can also be integrated with other Elemex® facade systems, offering architects the flexibility to mix materials and create a truly unique design.
Precast Concrete Cladding
Precast concrete slabs are manufactured in a factory using pre-set moulds, then joined together on a construction site to create exterior cladding.
Precast concrete is durable like regular concrete and offers a number of design possibilities because it can be made to look like other materials, including stone and brick.
Stone Cladding
With cladding made of stone, like granite or limestone, commercial buildings get a polished, fresh facade that’s naturally durable and long-lasting.
Natural stone facade, like our Stonitex® product, has a lifespan of decades and is strong enough to resist the harshest climate conditions and fading caused by harmful ultra-violet rays. Made from 100 percent natural quarried stone, Stonitex® panels are engineered to be thin and lightweight to allow for easy installation and versatile designs. Available in a variety of colors and textures, Stonitex® provides the design flexibility to assemble an extraordinary exterior facade.
Elemex® Architectural Facade Systems are available in a variety of durable and versatile materials. Visit our website or contact us at info@elemex.com for more information.
