I keep telling people we got lucky here in Metro Manila that Tisoy/Kammuri didn't do any damage; we barely felt it , in fact. So thanks for this, Josh. I'm spreading around so people here in the "Imperial Capital" don't get complacent. You do great work, sir. Keep it up and always stay safe.

That makes sense, because hurricane winds are stronger as you go higher-- so the winds hitting the upper floors were likely stronger. Glad you made it through OK!

Heya please stay safe... I know you want to film it for us to see what we can't on the outside (since I'm from Legazpi) but please make sure yourself to be safe. At 9 pm you are outside of your hotel at the embarcadero de legazpi and that area is a reclaimed land from the sea, it's very dangerous and you never know a canopy might hit you from the nearby hill. Anyways thank you for your effort. Kudos to your courage! Oragon ka :)

Wow! Your vlog is intense! I remember sitting at home feeling the intense storm overnight, feeling paranoid if it would flood around our house which is about 2 to 3 miles inland from where you were at the Embarcadero Hotel. I've never experienced being in an eye of the storm for more than a decade and it was a really, really insane moment being in the eye. I love this footage of your's, and much love from a resident in Legazpi City, Josh!

@@iCyclone It was! The last one I believed that we had this kind of strong super typhoons here in Legazpi, particularly in the Bicol Region were Typhoons Xangsane (Milenyo) and Durian (Reming) between September and October 2006. But the aftermath of Durian was surreal. There were people around the streets after we were hit in the first day after the typhoon, there were a number of looting in some places, and in my experience, a false tsunami warning which caused people to panic only to realize that it was an opportunity for people to loot around the city. But with Kammuri months ago, it was an incredible experience. One tree even fell down in concrete fence in where we lived (actually my residence is located from an old school compound within the city). As I biked out in the streets, I saw the damages around downtown such as concrete walls from malls were exposed after some of the plasters were torn off and shattered glass windows in the streets facing Hotel St. Ellis, and thought at first this isn't from the rain damage, it was from the strong winds that tore around the city. And I tell you, we were out of electricity for the next three weeks before Christmas. Thank god most of the people around here were safe after the storm passed by. That is my story on how me and my family experienced from it's approach to it's aftermath and how I compared it with previous typhoons that hit here in Bicol.

@justinharris5195
@justinharris5195 4 года назад
Terry Bolden Jr. By “rushing and panicking”, you mean making precautions for a life threatening storm? I mean absolutely no offense to you or the Philippines, but “relaxing” while a storm is raging outside isn’t very smart. Now of course this storm obviously wasn’t the most intense. Typhoon Haiyan though, is quite the example of why that isn’t a good idea.

I, myself have actually experienced this typhoon. I was scared, the winds were much stronger than I expected. The wind was whistling, Our roof was being pelted by rain. We were so glad that the water wasn't too strong. If it was our house was gonna be filled with water. I am very scared and cautious about typhoons because of one experience that traumatised me. Bagyong Nina was the typhoon (sorry I don't know the internation name of the typhoon), the water was in our house a giant mango tree fell and I was screaming so much. Our Christmas was still joyful but for me it was bittersweet, I was happy because I survived that monstrous typhoon, and sad that I didn't get to enjoy the purity and happiness of Christmas. But, here on typhoon Kammuri, water didn't rush at our home and we were safe. If you read this through the end I wanna thank you for listening. Remember Stay Safe always.

Hi Josh, Looks like the front eyewall was more intense vs. the back eyewall. ;) Here in Naga the NW Eyewall passed by us around 1-3am. Really a wide and fatter eyewall - the wind radii is quite wide. First storm I've observed wherein the eye was along Sorsogon-Albay border - and yet Naga City also experienced the outer eyewall where Typhoon force winds occured...a far-cry from past storms like: TY NONA (Dec 14, 2015), STY BETTY (HERMING) of Aug 13-14, 1987 and TYPHOON LEE (DINANG) of Dec 26, 1981 - powerful typhoons Cats 4, 5 and 3 respectively but the eyewall was much thinner and smaller. Overall, your video was impressive and amazing! Hope to see you again. Maybe you remember me at the AMS Hurr Conference way back in 2016 in Puerto Rico. ;) The Lone Filipino Typhoon Man @ San Juan ;) Take care Josh and Happy Holidays!
@iCyclone
@iCyclone 4 года назад
Thanks, Michael-- I am so glad you enjoyed the video! And nice to hear from you. :) Yeah, the front side was much stronger than the backside-- for sure! And, I feel the same as you do about the cyclone's structure-- that it had a fat, "truck tire" core. Absolutely. So it makes sense that Naga got the core. Did you enjoy it? :) Happy Holidays to you as well!
@kilksify
@kilksify 4 года назад
iCyclone the outer core is not that strong compared to what youve witnessed there at Embarcadero. What an amazing hotel! A far cry from the location of James Reynolds which is way over the hill at Oriental Hotel where the damage is far worst ;). The winds here in Naga was much less compared to STY Nock-Ten (Nina) of Dec 25, 2016 where wind gusts of 237 kph were recorded at Naga Airport. I think its around 120-160 kph - i still have to get the raw data from surrounding AWS. Any recorded winds on your side??? As expected we Bicolanos are resilient enough nowadays. Appreciate your reply Josh. Hope to see you again someday. :)

When I was a kid, I only encountered 2 to 3 very strong typhoons. Flying roofs and coconut trees on streets were pretty normal. If we would make sure that all roofs and fences are tightly secured, then we can just stay at home watching TV while eating boiled bananas. But now, wow almost every year there is atleast 1 "Super"typhoon to be prepared for, with storm surge and immense flooding. Seems like there's no enough preparation that can make us safe, now we just need to make sure that after the typhoon we are all complete and resilient enough to start a new day...
