In 2005 Hurricane Wilma became the strongest Category 5 Hurricane in the Atlantic basin in recorded history with a barometric pressure of 882mb. She slammed the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico then went on to hit Florida. Mike Theiss of UltimateChase.com captured on video Hurricane Wilma's strong Category 2 force winds on Miami Beach, Florida on October 24th, 2005. Mike recorded on video Hurricane Wilma's fierce eyewall and then her calm eye. While inside Hurricane Wilma's eye Mike recorded a barometric pressure of 959mb. Hurricane Wilma lost some of her punch before hitting florida but still caused an estimate 16.8 billion dollars in damage...Video Copyrighted Mike Theiss - UltimateChase.com

I moved to Miami a month before Wilma. Rode it out. It resembled a war zone afterward. Packed up the car and we all went to Disney World for two weeks while everyone else stayed in Miami in the sweltering heat with no electricity. We had a blast!

I rode out the first half of this hurricane sitting on my 5th floor balcony. It was awsome! You can really feel the power of nature. After the eye passed, the winds came from the opposite direction so I had to retreat inside and close the hurricane shutters. I couldn't see out but the noise was tremendous. I will never forget the experience of Hurricane Wilma.

The 2005 hurricane season was horrible for Miami. We got hit on August 26 by Katrina and then in October it was Wilma. So much damage happened to my city. It was such a horrible few months. Some people were so supportive and helped clean and find people mixed with all the debris and then there were people who were stealing anything they could from people. I don't understand how you could do something like that. People would just go inside others houses and rob them. Truly saddening.

I can't help but marvel at these forces of nature. Earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, droughts. Makes me wonder if it's the Planets way of telling us it's still in charge. After all we do to destroy it it's a wonder we don't get more cataclysmic events.

I was 12 when this hurricane hit, i live in fort Lauderdale just 45 minutes north of Miami. I remember all our windows busting in so we had to hide in the bathroom with a flashlight the remainder of the storm. After the hurricane I remember it looking like a war zone, cars were flipped, trees were uprooted, sewage pipes were broken, power lines were on the ground, and glass was everywhere. We had no power for a month and school wasn't up and running till 6 weeks after. We lived off spam and canned goods since all the lights were out and theifs were looting and breaking into homes. It was a scary time to be living in South Florida but we have been fortunate to not have a major Hurricane hit us 10 years.

Joshua & Jayden There's 3 types of tropical cyclones, (scientific term) they are known as hurricanes, typhoons, and cyclones. A supercell isn't a god damn tropical cyclone. Also, for additional information it is decided what the tropical cyclone is classified as depending on it's location which as I recall Chicago is in North America so what you guys get is still hurricanes.

I lived in Miami Beach. Had moved there the April of that year. Got Katrina as my first hurricane, which did nothing in Miami, so I was unimpressed. When Wilma came along, we were told it was a Cat 2. Based on what I knew about Katrina as a Cat 1, I decided to stay. I lived 2 blocks from the beach, and about half way through, I thought, "Boy, staying may not have been the best decision." Made it through, deciding that if any Cat 3 came along, I was leaving. Later the news told us that Wilma was a 3, but people still argue to this day if it was a 2 or 3. Destruction was pretty wide spread, but the one good thing I remember is that even though we were without power for a week, it was a week of NO HUMIDITY, and was actually kind of nice - except for the people obsessed with blaring their horns at the intersection right outside my building - for that entire week. There were fights at gas stations, people on the radio calling in mere hours after it was over, demanding to know where help was for them, (because people did nothing to help themselves beforehand by preparing), long lines at ice/water pick ups (because people did nothing to help themselves by preparing beforehand) lines at the grocery store, cash only, and only a few people in at a time, etc. Also, our boss really showed he actually cared about each and every single person who worked for him. I'll never forget his generosity to every last one of us.

Yep so true lived in Pompano Beach; reason that storm didn't linger around was cause a Cold Front picked her up and we got our first taste of fall. We went 27 days no power with three kids under 10. That was pure hell.

I lived in palm beach county for about 6 months out of 2014 (Lake worth & Boynton Beach) and luckily I didn’t experience any hurricanes BUT… just their basic summer time thunderstorms is enough to trip me out. Being born and raised in Ohio my whole life, I wasn’t prepared for the kind of storms y’all get down there. Just a normal thunderstorm causes apartment buildings to vibrate and rattle and at times sound like the windows are gonna bust out or something. Just an eerie feel. I couldn’t imagine a tropical storm or hurricane. Y’all’s day time storms were enough for me!

Why Hurricane Wilma is so strong: Hurricane Wilma was the most intense tropical cyclone ever recorded in the Atlantic basin, and the second-most intense tropical cyclone recorded in the Western Hemisphere, after Hurricane Patricia in 2015. Part of the record-breaking 2005 Atlantic hurricane season, which included three of the ten most intense Atlantic hurricanes ever (along with #4 Rita and #7 Katrina), Wilma was the twenty-second storm, thirteenth hurricane, sixth major hurricane, fourth Category 5 hurricane, and the second-most destructive hurricane of the 2005 season. A tropical depression formed in the Caribbean Sea near Jamaica on October 15, headed westward, and intensified into a tropical storm two days later, which abruptly turned southward and was named Wilma. Wilma continued to strengthen, and eventually became a hurricane on October 18. Shortly thereafter, explosive intensification occurred, and in only 24 hours, Wilma became a Category 5 hurricane with wind speeds of 185 mph (298 km/h).

Wow! I was in this. I lived in Miami Beach at Abbott and Indian Creek Dr. I was in a 2 story apt building that had a larger building shielding it from the east side, which definitely saved us a lot of damage. We still got damage, but nothing like what you filmed just a block away. My friend in another state had been watching it and was telling me later about all the flipped cars and asking if I knew this color building or that. I never did see it on tv because we had no power for 2 weeks. By the time I got power again, no one was talking about it anymore, no pictures anymore...and it was getting back to work after a week off. (We had a very good boss.) It just never ocurred to me to even look until today when I was looking up another hurricane. I got curious...but I remember Wilma well. I was not there for Andrew, so Wilma was the first one out of all the hurricanes I had been in that scared me and made me ask why tf I decided to stay. Someone in comments said it was a Cat 1....not it wasn't. It was a Cat 2-3 when it hit us in Miami and Miami Beach.

I was 5 years old in 2005 when Wilma struck South Florida. The eyewall has reached my neighborhood of opa locka, florida. Wilma was horrendous and monstrous. The winds were catastrophically strong it teared down part of our roof and trees around the houses. We were left without power for weeks. It sure is a wild life living in Miami dade.

I remember being in my living room with the family when this hit. We had a new daycare back patio complete with air conditioning, couches, t.v, you name it.. Since we lived behind a wide canal, my father knew the winds "could" get strong as there was zero protection on that side of the house from the elements. Well, let's just say his wiring down contraption of the roof did not work. Once the pressure and wind lifted an inch of that roof, it was over. Me and my father crawled through the kitchen window into the patio/daycare in a last ditch attempt to close the door and save the roof from being lifted up by the pressure. We closed the door but it was to late. I have never until this day felt so much power from a storm. Here's this roof weighing thousands of pounds, being jocked around like a piece of tin foil. The impacts it made while it bounced up and down were so strong you could feel it in your chest. Scary s***. Up until then I loved storms (grew up through Andrew) but this storm left it's mark on my family. Seeing my mother sob watching her daycare center being COMPLETELY dismantled changed my view on Hurricanes. They are not to be taken lightly. But, we were fortunate enough to get a perfect cold front literally right after the hurricane. Power was off for three days but we didn't need the A\C! remembering camping out in the backyard making bon fires from broken pieces of nieghborhood fence that were thrown ALL OVER THE PLACE Haha. Wilma was the perfect balance of terrible and good memories. Best night sky views I think Miami ever had for at least 3 days. Cheers! Be safe everyone.

its sad because when hurricane Wilma hit as an category 5 i was living In South Florida. I was only 1 years old when it hit us.i still live their. also i was swept up. lucky me a police officer spotted me because i was crying.before i was swept my mom put me on a life jacket. and then the hurricane hit and the door burst open with lots of water rushing in.my mom couldnt find me. but a police officer spotted me. where i lived a total of 569 people died. but me my mom and brothers and sisters survived. also my my baby brother was 8 months and he was with my mom. if i could find that police officer i would think him and i still remember his face. ( : IN 2016 IM 12 NOW. IT WAS 11 YRS AGO. I STILL REMEMBER THAT FATAL DAY. AND THE DAY IT HIT NEW ORLEANS

Why was the hurricane sad? There’s no such thing as “1 years old”. Why are there no capital letters after periods/full stops? Don’t you mean “lucky for me”? Did you mean “Before I swept my mom” or “Before I was swept by my mom”? (Pretty sure you didn’t.) Why would your mom put you on a life jacket instead of in? Did you mean “My mom couldn’t find me” or “My mum could nut find me”? (Pretty sure you didn’t again.) Was there actually a police officer in your house? Are you your own mum? And your brothers?! And your sisters!?! You have your own own baby brother? What does that even mean? Your baby brother was married to your mom? Did you mean “I would think for him” or “I would use THINKIN POWAH on him”? (Pretty sure you didn’t yet again.) What is IM 12? Is it an instant messaging app that came out in 2016? Did you mean “It’s 2016, you can get IM 12 now” or “In 2016 you can get IM 12”? (PrEtTy SuRe YoU dIdN’t A fOuRtH tImE.) You forgot a period/full stop after “New Orleans” (please don't take this seriously, this isn't meant to offend) (yes, I know I forgot a period/full stop after “New Orleans” 😉)
