This is one of the best songs i've heard in a very long time. Very emotional. Hail the Aesir Hail the Vanir Hail the Holy Hosts and the children of the North.
@Luiginnn faroese is old Norweigan... the vikings came from Norway and on their way to Iceland, they stopped for some time at the islands. As they left again, some of them choosed to stay and that where we have our language from :)
Hail from Iceland, I've always thought of faroe islands as a brother to Iceland :) My best friend is 1/4 from Faroe islands, and I would like to go there somtimes. I think it is very weird to listen to they're language because I think it's like icelandic and danish mixed together
Just google it and you will get the translation, any way the song is about Ólavur Trygvason and his long ship "the long serpant"and a battle for the Norwegian crown
@xxxtobyx3 I'm also Canadian! I was raised surrounded by Icelandic culture, and became interested in the history of the vikings, explorers and the Asatru faith! My grandmother brings us to Icelandic holiday celebrations and she would bake Vinatarta. (yuck!) BUT... my mom was adopted so I am not Icelandic by blood. Everyone in my family has been there, and I feel connected to the culture, even though by blood I am not Icelandic at all.
@Norskeviking001 maybe the Faroes "belong" to Denmark, but we have so may norwaigen traditions, like olajfest, the language and may other thing. We dont consider us Danish, but as Faroese, and the indepentence is only a few years away
@HaakonTheViking They should belong to Iceland, cause there language is more similar to ours than norwegian.. Icelandic is basically old norse. therefor we win. - ICELAND!
@DemigodOfTheIce ....good luck.... it´s soooo difficult ... my boyfriend was from thórshavn and it was impossible to understand more then five words...although i can speak norwegian an danish......... vit síggjast hilsen fra tyskland
Pretty much. Still, it is a mix of something. Double checking it, it is a mix of old Norse and Irish, as history prescribes. After that, it was reformed to return to the Old Norse root and to be similar to Icelandic.
Western dialects in Norway are closer to fareose than icelantic. (The shit you see written, bokmål, is danish ... Its spoken by eastern norwegians, and is danish spoken with an norwegian dialect, their original language is dead).
@arnimx faroese should be independent when they are big enough and have gained enough help to stand on their own, and at the moment they are just to small. so calm down man, the faroese and icelandics are still our scandinavian brothers, i love the faroese :D
No. I'm wrong about Inuit, because it has nothing to do with that. But I'm right about old scandinavian. Norwegian came from the West Scandinavian which is a branch from the North Germanic branch (Germanic sub-family, Indo europeian family). It's impossible to say "Old Norwegian" because Norwegian and Faroese are siblings, along with Icelandic (being icelanding the closest to it's west scandinavian root).
Actually th Faroes were under the Norwegian king, untill 14 something when Denmark and Norway became one kingdom, and when they got separated again, the norwegian forgot the Faroes, and the Faroes remained under Denmark, there are more details, but thats roughly it
West Scottland belonged to vikings too. I should know they rulled my familys island for 500 years. Barra island. Everyone should understand also that not only the christians drove out the vikings they forced the cross on everyone and this was long after jesus so he really had nothing to do with the cross. The actual truth itself is that jesus was not crucified on a cross he was crucified on a POST. Strait post because thats how the romans did it at that time. The european roman catholic church started the cross which was set up as a symbol of christ but all it was was a front to create a religion to ward off HEATHEN and convert people like Vikings. In reality it was an Idol and the religion was not of jesus but a religion about jesus that was twisted and not true to the WORD. So peganism and judaism were more closely associated. Sorry just needed to spill that out. lol. HAIL ODIN -
and they eath wale in scottland only around 100 years a go like in faroe islands vikings was eaten wales its in ouer blod in faroe islands James Dawson
Not the roman-catholic church started with the cross that was the christian chruch before it was splitted. The older sign and the sign for Jesus itself is the fish
Your actually right about that. The roman catholic church didn't necessarily start the whole symbol of the cross. But it was used, and forced upon, by a man named Constantine. Who was apart of the new Roman empire, or the roman catholic church. He pushed the idea that jesus was crucified on a cross. After that was King James thats where we get " THE KING JAMES VERSION" because he wrote his own. The original text in mathew never mentioned a cross. It mentioned a torture stake or "post". But never the less i agree with the catholics more than Protestants so just gettin that out there. By the way the symbol of the fish was actually not a symbol of jesus originally. It was an old Norse viking symbol for.....Vagina. Laugh if u want but thats what it was.
James Dawson at the time of Constantin you can not writte about the catholic church. At this time they was a part of the christian church. The catholic church is a organisation which since the end of ancient time exists. Constantin only ends the killing of christians not more in the most parts of his empire it became than the leading religion. If you write Jesus in old Greek it looks like an fish thats the truth. I know this because I study this things, And every culture wich has water near to them has the fish in their symbols or had the old egyptians looked what symbols the norse people us?
1) "tyr" and "týr" are prenounced way diffrent. 2) "tyr" is a icelandic singer, while "týr" is a totally awsome faroese viking metal band. 3) people who wright "týr" like "tyr" are the people who don't know how to type "ý".
I think the Faroes "belong" to no-one. The Faroes looks like the only "country" that is capable of taking care of itself, its culture and traditions. I dont think many Norwegians know about "the battle of Kringen", I did not until i heard Sinklars visa. When you get your independence and you get the oil flowing I surely hope you continue to stay true to yourselves and dont go "bananas" like Norway.
Faroe island is norwegian, gladir ridar noregs menn til hildar ting, does not speak about danish people, but gladly ride the norgwegian men to battle, gladir rida noregs menn to battle!
