I will forever love the contrast within this hobby. The lore: *Skittering gibbering horrors beyond understanding, stalking a man to the brink of madness and despair in a universe of eternal war and terror* The tabletop: "This is my Lictor model! His name is Licky!"
AS In comes the Deathwatch.... After listening to the White scars one I'm keen on seeing the tiny glitters of hope among all the grimdarkness. A fine one once again!
DP Last time I was this early the Crimson Fists were on the Codex cover! In all seriousness tho, I found your channel a few weeks ago and you've helped to motivate me pull my figs out of storage. Just need to dust em off, slap on some primer and paint and head down to the gaming store to have a crack at 8th ed.
@@BohdanKaiba Marines. Picked up some second hand death company and sanguinary guard from a buddy of mine, so i'm debating whether to repaint them all as blood angles, or split my army
DP The governor snaps knowing the routine of the lictor and to save his people he draws the lictor in and takes his life to end the filthy xenos with a grenade
so ive watched all the lore channels out there and i can say ive never seen any with your energy and way to tell a story. you have became my favorite lore teller by a large margin. keep up the great work and if anything gimmie more ork videos! thanks!
AS The Ordo Xenos of the inquisition has been tracking the movements of the tyranid fleet for sometime or the inquisitor hears of this suspicious news coming from this world and dispatches the deathwatch or an asset of your choosing at there disposal
AS A small squad of scions lead by a wild eyed, border line heretical sounding inquisitor- who carries a secret that can change the fate of the planet.
DL, DP, AND AS I am probably going to loose my vote for this but hear me out. -The Arch Duke attempts suicide and is attacked by the Lictor, trying stop him. - The Arch Duke fights back and somehow takes himself out and the Lictor. - The Arch Duke dies in a blaze of glory with the knowledge his people will know of the invasion. Happy ending that also is appropriately tragic and grim-dark.
AS A Vindicare is sent to "deal" with the steadily becoming ineffective Arch Duke, but in the assassin's time observing his target, he learns of the governor's plight and the sacrifice being endured by the Arch Duke. The Vindicare waits until night observing the governor's chambers when the Lictor enters...does the Vindicare end the Lictor, the Arch Duke, or both?
AS Loved the monty python reference had me chuckling, the eldar from sam hain should save him imo he could be a very important person as always great stuff mr b
AS The archduke gets in contact with Inquisition/Death Watch and they ambush the Xenos scum...or...maybe send an assassin to kill the assassin... I don't think you've done death watch or the ordo of assassins so this would work nicely
AS I put some thought into who would be best to slay this terrible beast, Scion team, inquisitor, maybe even an Webway Eldar. And then it hit me, the greatest master of the shadows himself, the One Man Army, SLY MARBO!
AS Alas I wanted him toyed with, all grimdark-like, but he seems like a nice fellow. It'd be nice to tie this in with your other stories, like the one with the Sensei.
@@mattcioci9751 Edit: I just binged a few more videos and it turns out that the Sensei story continues with the Solitaire and then his most recent video on the Noise Marines.
DP to many happy endings as of late, personally I would prefer a little more grimdark, thats just me though. Could go even harsher too, and describe it as a cowards way out, since the lictor will just haunt the next one in line, rather than a noble sacrifice
Dear god, your videos are criminally underviewed. Between you and Oculus Imperia, I feel like I've found some of the best lore videos out there. You guys should be up there with Leutein09 (Not saying he isn't good, but you deserve just as much attention!)
The Omnissiah weeps. Your channel distinctly lacks the requisite amount of blessed Adeptus Mechanicus and or Mechanicum lore material. Woe. Woe. Such woe.
I'm still awaiting a delivery of more books. Not a man of means, so sometimes it takes a while as I have to wait for patreon money to get them. :( I know a lot, but I really have to check the codices and other up to date info to be sure. Sorry. But they are coming. :)
AS You and your 7am downloads lol Well, it's a good thing for those of us at work already lol nothing as good as coffee, Baldermort and a few network cables lol It's not even a question whether it's good. I don't need to watch all of it to know it's good. You've already set the standard itself.
Finally have some time to binge videos, and there is happily plenty of Baldermort to watch! The tyrannid are honestly terrifying. And your video once again captures the energy of the setting to perfection! Congrats on hitting 13k! The count goes up every time I check your channel
DP Brother Baldermort, i must say you have made my education of the Grimdark so fascinating, and you have given me so much inspiration, as your writing is truly amazing. Your ability to craft a specific ambiance that I aspire to achieve in my own writing. Your stories BLEED the utter believability of the unbelievable. I hope this message finds you in good health, and i so do look forward to continuing my education -- For now i can say 'Yes, i know of the Space Wolves, the Emperor's Executioners. I know the swift death delivered on Raven Guard wings. I have heard the maddening terrors of the Warp, the all consuming tidal mass of flesh of the Tyranids, and the gravity of the betrayal of the Horus Heresy! For I have one of the greatest teachers from Tyran to Terra -- Brother Baldermort!"
This was really excellent, probably one of your best voice acting performances I've heard yet. I love your videos Baldermort and the work you're doing, sincerely.
I'm so happy to see someone who actually used the alpha-phonetic alphabet/code properly. You are either well educated in military/police "code", or are a former service member of one form or another. DP. The governor seems to have a huge pair of brass balls that would make Russ proud enduring everything he did trying to save the citizens he loved, by staring night after night. I think he'd set a specialized trap and winds up wasting the filthy Xenos to show the corps to everyone and call the Space Marines for a Tyranid Purging with fire from the most Holiest of the Emperors stocks of promethium.
AS Brother! I was thinking maybe a callidus assassin, blood Angels scout squad or even a squad of howling banshees. Ya know, sent because the dude knows what hes doing and protects his people. Good leader, eldar want to keep their carrier secure.
AS Because I think it is the more interesting way. The other two are just "Yeah, he dies". I'm curious, what you may come up with. ^^ Also i feel pity for this good man. ^^ Edit: And it is somewhat unlikely, that the people around him doesn't realize the killed servants and the mental downfall of their leader. They must have taken actions, to save the man, who is willing to endure this horror, to protect them. 40k is not just grimdark, it is also about heroism and to overcome horrors, others may not even be able to imagine. This is the true intention of grimdarkness, in my opinion: To survive against all odds. Maybe sometimes as a species, for the selfless sacrifice of individuals, but also as individual, which had no hope anymore. Let this man live and let him grow on the experience. As he knows, the Tyranids are on the doorsteps, he will prepare... and await them. With the grim determination they have awoken in him and the dark hate for the enemies of his people.
AS Though if the counting of the options is three, one option should have been HH, perhaps if the archduke is saved by the vote, you can save him with the holy hand grenade!
Coming back to this video today for the memories. This was my first ever Baldermort video. I put it on for something in the background to make it easier to sleep. Woke up the following day to my other half asking me "who was that in the video? It was amazing! There was a full story! Was it canon? was it Fan Fiction? What was it?". So I re-watched it, and was instantly hooked. However long its been since then, and I'm still hooked on every Baldermort release
I choose option AS I say have the governor call in the Deathwatch and they stay hidden inside the palace until the night. When the Lictor arrives, the Archduke calls the Deathwatch marines via a vox earpiece.
AS sort of, as I was imagining it, he saves himself by making a deal with Tzeentch while in a drug induced state. A psychic explosion rips the tyranid apart, but leaves the archduke with a brand on his chest in the shape of Tzeentch’s symbol. Or another possibility is that one his advisors turns out to be an agent of the alpha legion, the next night an Alpha legionnaire slays the lictor in return for some reward.
AS The Arch Duke is saved by the forces of the Imperium, by putting a bolter round through his skull. The other servants of the Imperium have not been blind to the Dukes' blight, and they have decided that he will serve the Emperor one last time. By killing the target of the Lictor, they will force it to move on to a second target, a target now prepared for the Lictor menace. Yes brothers, the Imperial forces have been granted use of a new and experimental technology that may be capable of tracking a Lictor. The Arch Duke will be more use to the Emperor in death than he ever could have been in life. The Emperor protects.
AS I think it will be cool to see him saved by the inquisition as they took an eye to him after the first report. They can save his people and planet in time but right after the inquisitor gives the governor the emperors mersey. This way there's still that element of grim dark. This is but a suggestion and a can't wait to see what is disited. Thank you
DL He attempts DP one night but the lictor stops him. It then kills him during a public address to spread maximum fear (Lictor killed moments later but not in time)
AS I'd love to see him saved but by Trayzn the Infinite just coming along to expand his Tyranid collection, and leaves the Archduke with more questions then answers~
DL I love the life you breathe into the xenos races. They are always overlooked I feel, this entry emphasizes that the galaxy will be snuffed out by the Nids, they cannot be stopped... Unless you fit in the narration that they hide an Eversor Assassin under the bed, waiting (unlikely), then this governor is toast.
AS I love these narratives you do the White Scars one had me listening to it i would love to hear a Mechanicus Tech-Priest one eventually thanks for the great videos.
AS We've already seen what a deathleaper does when it's successful, what happens when its opperation gets tanked? Lictors have always been one of my favorite tyranid models. If I ever buy anything tyranid again, it'll be a group of lictors first. Great story Brother Baldermort. You always do our favorite lore justice.
AS The Catachans have a soft spot for the Lictors. Or B. He's saved and almost dead, but when he and his savior or saviors look up to see the hive fleet coming for them.
Thank you! I had a similar problem when I ran a Nid army. I had two lictors and although they could get the jump on someone, they would soon get wiped out (playing space wolves mostly). The only success I've noticed is to focus your army on deep striking. Have trygons and tyrannocytes ready to swamp the board on turn two. The drawback is that all those bugs take up space and a well screened army will limit placement, that's where a lictor can work, 9" away? Just a tiny back corner left open? Perfect spot, granted they will get shot to pieces usually and at the end of the day, you can buy so many more termagaunts for the points. That being said, their short lives have an advantage, they have a terrifying effect on the opponent. Seeing a lictor pop up in the backfield can be unnerving and they usually become a priority target, soaking up shots that could have gone elsewhere, they serve their psychological purpose and it is fun to watch your opponent react to them. Sadly, it can be a pricey distraction, but cheap if you're trying to fill a slot to complete a brigade detachment.
I run my 3 as one model basically. That way i see it as representative of their lightning reflexes and ghost like stealth talked about in the lore. Attack one model or unit at a time with all 3, using the hive fleet : other, ability " Spawns of the outer dark" to help with overwatch and you should get good results. I would like to see forgeworld release a clear resin model,(of the lictor) like they did for the ring bearers of middle earth over the winter holiday's. I think that would be a good edition to any Tyranid army.
AS Even though he has been privileged all his life, he truly seems to care for his people's wellbeing. Even in the Grim Dark, kindness, mercy, hell even compassion should be rewarded from time to time.
AS Also I don’t know if you know this, but there is a way to put a poll on a video, the poll then gives you the percentage results of the options. Hopefully you can save some time that way
Love your channel, sad I've only just found it but very glad that I have! You have an enunciation & cadence I find severely lacking in the bulk of narrators on here and it really brings the format together, very fitting for the setting! Thanks for the top notch content :)
That wholesome message at the end...Brother, those need to be posted separatedly and they need to be shown to everyone who plays! Such a great message!! Great video!!
Who's to say he even recognises the Alpha Legion as traitor marines. They aren't rotting, covered in spikes, or trying to make sweet love to the lictor.
@@vashani That's a great question even through one big hydra symbol or tattoo could make it obvious. But I believe the "Alpharius thing" would be death giveaway. Gov: "Oh, Great hero of the Imperium, we wish to build you a statue to remember your great deed of saving this planet even possibly this planetary system. What is your's name which we should give to this Monument." SM: "Oh, We are just Alpharius." :-D - To them mentioned as "loyal" I mostly meant, that at least part of the Alpha legion still are loyal to the idea of Imperium rather than loyal to the Emperor of Mankind and they act accordingly. At least I remember that I read something like that. Thank you for your's truthful coment ;)
@@MichalHejda I could see it breaking down into less of a statues and parades scenario and more of a "you can thank us by helping us bolster our ranks" and quietly using the planet as a source for new Legionnaires.
AS THE EMPEROR PROTECTS! Service may be it's own reward. However, the Light of The Emperor banishes darkness everywhere his loyal subjects' eyes fall. Where His gaze falls His Will be done!
DL I would love to see the Lictor finish him off, only right after to have a member of Ordo Xenos to come in and kill it, becuase while the Imperium knew what was going on, and wanted to send help, it's slow, laborious cogs of beauracracy just move far, far to slow.
AS He prepares himself to die but nearing the end he decides to fight, his human nature and intuition isn't fully grasped by the Xeno scum, thus leading to its defeat/death. A bit of punishment for seeing the duke as prey rather than an actual adversary. This implies that the Lictor is expecting it to act as prey would, either panicking, fighting in vain, or fleeing. Use the Duke's smarts to win the day. P.S- I genuinely look forward to your videos, Love your work Mr. Baldermort!
It wasn't trying to kill him because it knew his death would make him a Martyr and brings further resolve to his people to fight. It was trying to demoralise his people by driving him insane. I think that's what stayed it's hand rather than underestimating him as an ordinary prey.
AS Do your best Beowulf story from the point of the king. That was grimdark when grimdark was called Tuesday. The grateful king gets saved by a hero, who the looses said kingdom to hero via wife AND daughter sleeping with him then he kills himself as the hero leads the planet to save itself and the good king feels like a fraud and the best thing he can do is die so this new leader can take his place formally. Of course, the tyranids still come down as dragons to eat said hero-king and family but only after the new king relises he was the fraud the whole time and was too big a jerk to see it when he cant protect his family either. You should look into Google Forms, make a poll and put the link into the description or a card. Turn several hours of counting into 10 minutes of form design.
DP Death by his own hand feels incredibly sinister in this situation, as if it was the lictors intention to drive him to this. As if a hint at a deeper intelligence within the lictor. Or... was the lictor even there? perhaps the man was mad in his own right, slaughtering those close to him by his own hand.
