Looking forward to the review of the wizkids dungeon set, the new cave defenders pack. Need Orges! New dragons coming as well. 2020 is looking good. Would be amazing if they remade/updated Tyranny of Dragons set with the new machines.

We have full sets of Dangerous Delves, War Drums, Angelfire, and Archfiends. These sets are expensive enough we kinda had to stop until we see what kind of reception they get on here. There’s also not that many full sets easily floating around so getting many more may be a challenge. -Grady

Yeah, I got many of the Attack Wing versions based on this set rather cheap, including most of the dragons. The Sun Elf Guard, Hobgoblin Fighter, and Aarakocra all came in sets of six, which was pretty nice. :) Repainted all but one of the Aarakocra minis with the help a friend for some needed variation. ;)

Yeah, I managed to pick up a few packs of those in a clearance sale as well. I haven't tried touching up the paint, but I probably should. That variation would definitely help. -Theo

For the red wizard of Thay they really should have gave us Edwin Odessoron from the Baldurs Gate series ! he would have been epic! Also and I shouldn't have to say this because the game is like 20 years old now but * SPOILER* The variant could have been Edwina from when he got turned into a woman 😂 , that would have been awesome!

I really appreciate your videos. It's so good to see what I'm chancing for when buying a random booster now and again. It's neat to see the 5e wyvern in 3d detail. I had thought they were going for a cobra hood on its neck, but I wasn't sure until I saw your video. That turning pedestal is real useful. Is 'mane demon' a mistake? I thought the singular of manes is still manes.

@@TheGallantGoblin It's no problem. I had to fix 'an' spelling mistake of my own I saw too late. Oops. :P If I can ask about something unusual, what are some good non-official mini resources? Are there any small toy animals that could work for filling out a farm? Are there pieces of everyday materials that can be used creatively, like that milk ring you mentioned in the recent Pathfinder video? This might make a good subject for a video, maybe for April Fools. It hearkens back to those plastic 'prehistoric animals' that gave Gygax the owlbear and rust monster.

Yup, we checked. It says "Mane Demon" on the base. We noted the correct spelling in the video description. There are certainly some good toy animals out there, though I found it a bit hard to find ones that were the right scale. Most of the toys seemed to be rather large in comparison to the other minis. Though I have found a few things. Stonemaier Games makes some good board game resource "crates" that work well (boxes, barrels, crates, fires, cloth, etc). I also use the little animal minis from the board game Caverna pretty often. There are some good crafting channels out there for minis you may want to check out. I'm not the most crafty person in the world, so I probably couldn't quite keep up with their creativity. I'll jot down some notes though to see if I have enough ideas for a little crafting/re-purposing video. Thanks for the fun idea! -Theo

I think in latin the spirits are called Manes (ironically, the good spirits are Manes, the bad are Lemures, in D&D both of those are evil) but the word has only plural form. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manes

Thanks, Aleksandr! Yes, when we first started the channel, we tested various iterations of the video titles. On some devices the title frequently gets cut off after a couple of words, so we aren't able to start each title with "Icons of the Realms" or for those people all the videos would appear to have the same title. There just wasn't a great solution to the problem, so I'm sorry for the inconvenience! -Theo

Wow, back to the beginnings! I assume you managed to get a full case thanks to the set being reprinted? I still remember when I bought this. My first time buying a case, or rather, half of it - I bought it with a friend and colleague and split it 50-50. :) I was blown away by the quality, even though I had some Pathfinder minis already at the time. I was just so happy that we finally had D&D minis after like, 6-7 years of an intermission? Or at least it felt as much. The Uncommon Dragons were a great surprise, and loved them. But I was mostly thankful for getting so many Metallics - the Gargantuan Brass was beautiful, they are one of my favourite metallics after Coppers, and the many shades of brass were done amazingly on that mini. Before Wizkids, I believe we only ever had 2 Brass Dragons, and one was a Wyrmling. Oh and the Green was a great relief, seeing them back to classic fin-back design after the pinocchio-nosed 4E ones. The only minis in this I am not that happy with are the Green Hag (too thick paint, cannot see much of the face), and the Wyvern (I am OK with the cobra hood but it is too small). Oh and I was so happy we finally got a Doppelganger, a creature that eluded us with a mini for decades (even though, yeah, you can represent that with any mini, I still prefer them as grey featureless humanoids, thanks to fighting so many of them in Baldur's Gate games). The Red Wizard was the first time I saw proper tampographs used, and since then Wizkids perfected the method, as seen on the Amnizu for example. :) Oh and was so happy about finally seeing Half-Dragons. Fun fact, the Black Half-Dragon Lord is actually one of the leaders of the Cult of the Dragon, Rezmir the Black, from the Tyranny of Dragons/Rise of Tiamat adventure, and is actually a lady. ;) She has a Gale Force Nine unpainted mini too.

Theo may have more to add but this was almost certainly reprinted to some extent as we bought it last year. Looking at the bases though there were clearly minis from different runs in the boxes as the bases were in different conditions and looked to have been printed slightly different even for the same sculpts. Not quite sure what that means but was an interesting observation. -Grady

@@TheGallantGoblin You are welcome! :) And yeah I also learned this word on Plasticrypt (Minisgallery's predecessor). I have seen it being used on other toys since then, like transformers. Basically they are teeny-tiny stickers that are somehow (probably via heat or chemical reaction) are fused to the surface. The beards, eyes, mouths look so nice on these newer minis because they are often tampographs, unlike on older minis where they often ended up unpainted.

Glad to see you doing old sets. I have several of these dragons through attack wing. Do you happen to know where I can get some circular bases, to replace my square bases with? It feels weird dropping these into my game with square bases.

Oh, we have some videos of even older sets in development. :-) My first thought is that Reaper sells bases of various sizes that should work, though due to the design of those flying dragons, it's going to be a bit of challenge to transition the figures over I think. You could also consider painting the clear plastic bases black to better blend in on the table. Personally, I just shamelessly put the Attack Wing minis down as they were and if my players objected, they got hit by fire breath. -Theo

The Gallant Goblin Well I want to be able to still use them in attack wing, cause it’s a great game (you can take credit for that because I heard of attack wing through your ancient brass dragon video, and impulsively hit up eBay for a LOT of attack wing stuff, and have so far only gotten to play once). Do the reaper ones have the D shaped slots to fit the pegs into?

Ahh... glad you're enjoying Attack Wing! No, I think the Reaper bases are completely flat. I don't really know of any way to get the bases for the flying minis and the correct little pegs unless you can work something out with Wizkids directly. Doesn't hurt to reach out to them to ask. But if I remember correctly, the Attack Wing minis have a different slot built right into the mini. Long story short... I can't think of an easy way to switch out the bases unfortunately. I'm sure your players won't mind too much about having different bases. I do hope you get to play more Attack Wing soon though. I know my board game pile of shame is really tall now! -Theo

The Gallant Goblin here here. I’ve backed way more board game kickstarters than I’ll ever have time to play. I keep imagining a future where my kids will enjoy my massive board game collection, and then I remember you actually have to find a woman for that. The ironic thing is that I got in to attack wing because I wanted that premium ancient brass dragon, and now I can’t find one for Attack Wing, and I refuse to buy the circular base.

I think the bronze dragon is handled like a medium figure in this set. I got a bronze and a green dragon in the same box, too. So the combination seems to be always with the bronze dragon.

I remember, yeah. For some odd reason that was how the distribution was but only with the Red Dragon. I think maybe because of the wings being upwards pointing that they could not put it in a bubble? I remember I had to use the cold/hot water "cure" on that mini. The wings were otherwise totally flat.

Excelent video! I always wanted to know if the Icons of the Realms minis were different from the Attack Wing miniatures (the painting, mostly). Now I see that the red dragon is the same, which is a huge relief since it is the most expensive of all flying dragons!!! I live in Honduras and collecting from here is somewhat more difficult! Still, I have a question about the Copper Dragon form Icons and At Wing. I have the Copper Dragon from the At Wing starter but I see it different from the one you show in the video. Are they the same? thank you for your time!

Hi Oscar, there are two copper dragon sculpts. The other is #41 in the Rage of Demons set. I believe Attack Wing used both versions as well, so if yours does not match the one you see in this video for Tyranny, you can check our Rage of Demons review at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-HDTEI_Vfog8.html to see if it's that one instead. @@TheGallantGoblin Thank you! The Attack wing Copper dragon I have is the same of Tyranny of Dragons then! (those are good news) I ask this because I want all the flying dragons and now I'm after the silver Dragon (the large one, not the gargantuan, I'm not THAT crazy.... yet), but the Icons of the Realm is 33 dollars and the Attack Wing Silver Dragon is 21 dollars! and I see they're the same! one can't have enough flying dragons!

These are blind boxes. You get 4 random figures in each box. For all the details you can check our post at www.gallantgoblin.com/post/wizkids-minis-booster-sets-demystified The half red dragon fighter is a rare so you only have around a 1/32 chance of pulling it from any given box. You’re probably better off buying it directly from the aftermarket where it’s going for around $15. -Grady

No. A brick will get you about (slightly under) 2/3 of the minis in the set. You’ll typically get about 29 unique sculpts and 3 duplicates. It further breaks down into 11-12 of the commons, 14-15 of the uncommons, and 3 of the rares. It should be noted that a number of dragons in this set are the adult variants and, while they come with large bases, are, in fact, huge monsters. So technically this larger boxed set does come with huge monsters, they simply have the wrong base size.

That's fair. Large vs. Huge and Young vs. Adult is mostly semantics. I think if you put most of these down on the table and told your players that they were confronting an adult dragon, no one would challenge you on it. And if they did, just have the dragon eat them. :-) -Theo

@@TheGallantGoblin Lol, true. It's more for my benefit though. I'm just a stickler for accurate minis. I'm just basing this off comparisons between this and other sets. The green dragon in the Elemental Evil set for instance is just way to small to be considered an adult, and way to big to be a wyrmling. I do wish they had accurate bases though. Some of the dragons on medium bases are kind of a pain to avoid knocking over at times.

I haven't laid my hands upon too many of the Attack Wing minis, but generally they used the same sculpts with different bases, yes. It's a good way to get used to upcoming clear bases on minis! -Theo

Oh yeah, and the weird case of the Huge Giants on Large bases! Oddly enough the Stone Giant Elder can still work with Huge minis, and is the same size as the Storm King's Thunder female Stone Giant, just hunched over. But the poor male Frost Giant is dwarfed by the SKT/MM3 Frost Giants. I still keep him but he looks odd, too beardy to be used as a kid giant... maybe he never got his growth spurt. :D

Hehe, my thoughts exactly. Or maybe that Frost Giant mini can be used on the off chance that someone targeted him with an Enlarge/Reduce spell. But yeah, if he hits my table, he'll be the Scrappy Doo of the tribe, ridiculed by the rest of the clan while constantly trying to prove himself. :-) -Theo

Great review, great minis. Though the paint job on some of the dragons seem pretty lazy, looks as if they just painted the whole dragon one solid paint and called it good.

@@TheGallantGoblin It's kinda understandable on the metallics, because silver does not rust, after all. :) So unlike the Bronze or Brass, Silver dragons have no verdigris on them. It's like that on the art too. Gold Dragons oddly still have a lighter yellowish underbelly, though. My main gripe was the Black - that it was a Shadow variant. I wish it was a regular Black Dragon. We had to wait until MM2 for that one.

Where were you able to get this case 5 years later? Did you already have one and then started the channel or did you pay an exorbitant amount of money to get one?

We were lucky that this set started being reprinted around the time we started the channel. Almost everything we show on the channel we bought after we started filming. It’s been an expensive hobby we’ve funded with our day jobs, though we’re looking for ways to make the channel self sustainable. -Grady

We need more different dragon sizes that are easier to get. I would like a white dragon for a campaign I am running. I am not asking. I am just saying that I would like easier miniatures.

You may want to check out the Pathfinder Deep Cuts unpainted gargantuan white dragon if you don't mind painting the mini yourself. That is, if you're looking for a gargantuan dragon. -Theo

There was a Large White dragon in Elemental Evil. And there is a Huge one from back in WotC era, from Against the Giants.

The tails vs. non-tails situation can provide some interesting cultural history. Perhaps some have tails and some don't. Why is that? How does one faction treat the other? Critical Role did a good job with this very issue. Luckily, it's your game and universe, so you can do anything you like with it! -Theo

@@TheGallantGoblin I have yet to read all the 3E material - my understanding was that Dragonborn there are descended from various races - human, halfling, dwarf - and turned into this form as a blessing by Bahamut... I remember seeing illustrations with halfling-sized Dragonborn. But maybe that was only a change in 4E. So yeah it could be a variation.

Why do they keep making female characters? I ihave twice as many female minutes than I do male characters? I don’t have any female players in my group! A few would be fine but holy hell ...it’s every other miniature I pull , ?
