Way to go. You accomplished something tons of other people do every day, but you managed to get flamingoes duct tape stuck in your rim and between the rim and tire. Which means you have a high chance of developing all kinds of bead leaks after a while, and a high chance of the tire popping off the bead. Listen kids, don't do it like this.
i have a question for you, im after a slight stretch my car is currently running 205/45 R17 with no stretch, what size tyre do you recommend using for a small to moderate stretch without going over board?
there's nothing wrong with stretching tires just depends on how much you stretching....its for street racing people been doing this for years if some of you people who dont know that the reason for purpose for stretching tires for better traction and keep tires from rolling eating the edges up duuhhhh and for better fitting so you have less cutting to do
It doesn't, it's all about a look. Usually so they can run bigger wheels and make them fit under fenders. Some drift cars stretch tires a bit, but on a street car it's a bad idea. In order to keep the bead set, you have to run high pressure, which leads to uneven tire wear, and that arrangement is also hard on the sidewall. You don't get a larger contact patch beyond a certain point. If you look at some cars, particularly those in the Japanese seen, they run these stretched tires with extreme camber to tuck under the fenders, and the tire winds up running on a couple inches of tread. It's ridiculous.
I'd love to know which one of their metally disabled friends instructed them to use duct tape. If they had half a brain they'd realise you can use the same either&fire method without the duct tape.
Wayne Lee I only assume it is because they are too stupid to get the right width tire. They might claim it is a style thing, but it looks too retarded.
+Alex Goc why do we se people like you on every single vid that doesnt follow your style of car? if you like something that i dont like im not going to hate on you. to some people this style is apealing and for you a different kind of style is apealing. just because you dont like doesnt mean we dont like. ur not the oracle. ur just some random dude with no life
Those are fun and scary, but I agree. There are tools for better engineering, but this uses simple physics to get the job done, pretty neat. Guy below you says "Dangerous, stupid, illegal" and people should also mind this, don't trust this and don't do it on regulated roads.
When you done them fairly safe, did you use that lubrication called tyre grease like the majority of tyre shops use, which when not run in properly can make the alloy wheel slip on the tyre? The friction will almost destroy the tape in a few miles.
i got some 18s and the tire they got is some 215/35zr18 but i need new tired so i want to do them like that what size you think will fitlike that on them?
why dont you just put a tire on that aactually fits?....dumbasses are probably the same type of guys that have excessive camber on their car too...like that does anything to improve performance...
+Dis Connected i dont expect you to appreciate this kind of stuffs only people who has one or people who have proj car will that living in the same passion will only appreciate this kind of stuffs. .
You people do know that this is dangerous, don't you? And I'm not talking about using ether or something like that to expand the tire either, although that in itself is. You are ruining the tire sidewall and also the handling of the car. Having to run the tire grossly over inflated to get the tread contact patch flat will only lead to catastrophic tire failure. Also if you are running excessive camber to tuck the wheels, you are really risking your life. Not to mention it looks really ridiculous.
Smedleydog1 not really if you get the right tire its safe ive had mine for 3 years on my wrx.....front tires went all the way down to the wires and o was still gunning it cuz i didnt notice.....its unsafe if u dont know what your doing.....mine took tight turns at 100mph
i have a question for you Wakawaka7861 why do people do this to the tires and should I if I want to do it to my miata currently I have the daisy rims on..... What should I do
Tire stretching is dangerous. Bring it to a mechanic and he will do nothing but agree with my statement. It is the same concept as a wing. People put it on there because they think it looks cool and gives it "style" when its a shitbucket car. The only difference between this and a wing is that this is dangerous and will ruin your car or your rims at the very least. Yes... "style". I call it poor mofos who have to argue with the proper way to do things. There is not a single professional drift car or rally car or race car that runs on stretched tires. Use common sense people.
+Fierce Recognition There are plenty of drift and race cars that run stretched tyres. There's 2 kinda of stretch, functional and visual. Putting a 225/50 on a 9 is functional, putting a 195/50 on a 10 is visual.
If the tire walls are only sticking out about 5 degrees then by all means do it, it's about like having a 5 degree camber, but when its exceeding any more than that it's just downright stupid. Tires are not hard to find the right size at all. Good drift tires that fit are much better than "Tires I found around the shop that I made fit my drift car even though they were 4 inches too thin"
+tisoy909 Slight stretch, as in a 195/50 on a 7j will stiffen the sidewalls a substantial amount and give a much more stable feeling tyre than, for example, a 205/55 or 225/50. It works the same as using a lower profile tyre.
+Fierce Recognition You're taking what I said to the extreme. Like I said, there's 2 kinds of stretch. 195/50 on a 10j is stupid, 225/50 on a 10j is functional.
I find it hard to imagine this will hold pressure for long with all that tape around the bead. Cool technique though, I always love seeing this. It's especially impressive when mounting off road tires.
buy a wider tire? my black trans am has an 11 inch wide tire on an 18 inch rim with a 305/ 35 tire built to fit with proper back spacing by boze forged wheels
