As promised in Episode 5 of the Sherpa Series here is a real world comparison between the stock tyres that come on the RTR Absima Sherpa and the Louise CR-Champs (a.k.a. Duratrax Deep Woods).
This is episode 5 in a series of videos following my first steps in to crawling as well as the upgrade journey I take with the Sherpa. Don't get me wrong though, you could easily run this rig bone stock and get great performance and many hours of happy trailing/crawling fun.

Realise this is quite an old video but wanted to say thanks. I'm considering a crawler purchase right now. I was pretty much decided on a trx4 then saw the sherpa for like 150 euros less and pretty much the same spec! Great video showing probably the single best "bang for your buck" upgrade that you could make to this machine. Thanks!

For this tires i use Hairbuns 9cm as foams,work very very well on my Yikong 4101.Nice tire test.

Nice, I have a lot of success with hair buns (although I think they are a little bigger than 90cm). Have them in all 4 of my rigs and not seen a need to change that. 🤙

Sorry for the slow reply. I've got no experience with the Khamba, but it sure looks good and they made a few improvements over the original Sherpa. That said, most of those found their way on to the later Sherpa anyway. Oh dang, I'm no help at all here! I'm sure you'll enjoy whichever one you go for. Good luck and thanks for watching. 🤙

Hi Phil, great video. I guess I'll get a CrChamp set too. I just got a new set of injora rims, they fit well but portals are not inside the rims now. Is this happend to you too?

I think you'll love the Champs! All of the beadlocks I've tried on the truck do sit further out, not something to worry about. Helps a bit on side hills but hampers the steering a little.

Not the bumper, but if you take the plastic grill off (2 screws on the inside) then you get the body colour and just black out the inside of the grills with paint or a sharpie.

Hi Phil great vids on the Sherpa, these lead me to buying one and I have just ordered the Duratrax Deep Woods tyres. You mentioned that you were getting body rub, how did you prevent it?

Hi Ian, I trimmed the wheel arches down a little, and the inner liners. Didn't get rid of it completely. Depending on the wheels you go for you could also get smaller offset hubs. Part of my issue is that the hubs offset the wheels out a bit,. Making body rub worse.

That's a great question, but I'm sorry to say that I've not seen any that have been modified yet. Could be a good way to increase the performance, but not something I've ever done. Let us know if you do try! 🤙

Not sure to be honest. If the 1/8th uses 2.2 wheels then I think you can.

Hi. The Louise champs are a 1.9 tyre and are slightly taller and wider than stock tyres. They do not fit on the Sherpa wheels so you would need new wheels as well. Because they are bigger they tend to rub the wheel arches a little, so you may want to trim the arches down a bit. Hope that helps. 🤙

Hi, yes I think that the stock shocks are too hard as well. Check out my Free Upgrades video (ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-SGrLdbIz90s.html) as you can soften them up a little bit. Hi, I recently started using 248 (medium) in stick form and am wondering how I managed without it. So much less mess than with the liquid. But really any medium (blue) loctite should be fine.

Hi. The Louise champs are a 1.9 tyre and are slightly taller than stock tyres. They do not fit on the Sherpa wheels so you would need new wheels as well. The wheels are just from eBay and cost about £35 for the set of 4. Because they are bigger they tend to rub the wheel arches a little, so you may want to trim the arches down a bit. @@PhilBrindley Hi, is the beadlocks 2.2" one? I try to fit original counterweight but they seems only fit 2.2 rim.

@@huangg01 The beadlocks are 1.9". I have the weights as well, they needed filing down a small amount to allow the wheels to fit. If the inner diameter of the wheels is 45mm or more they will fit over the weights.
