Tyrion was deadly serious when he broke out that stiletto...and Tywin was smart enough to know this. That's why he calmed things down by saying "Tyrion you're drunk...oook? Go home.." Tyrion got the hint and acted even drunker to keep things from escalating. Joffery was so stupid lol
Ok I'll be that guy. *In the books* Tyrion intentionally does the whole threatening Joffrey thing and acts like he's really drunk to excuse it because, he doesn't want Sansa to have to endure the bedding ceremony.
I love how he plays up how drunk he really is to protect Sansa and himself lololol He's completely obliterated, alright. But he's still able to be smart even in this state. Very impressive and hilarious 😂😂😂
As much as he hated Tyrion, I think Tyrion is the only person in the show we’e seen make Tywin smile, or smirk at least (except for maybe Arya at Harrenhall)
Definitely an awkward tick and not a genuine smirk, look at his expression at 1:06, hes so uncomfortable his skin is practically crawling, and he's glancing around at the room and the people around him. Tywin was very transparently self-conscious and insecure here.

I think it's suitable that Tywin doesn't want the humiliation of the bedding ceremony for Tyrion. Humiliating Tyrion in front of everyone would be humiliating the house of Lannister, and Tywin cannot stand for that.

@@juanmasingh Sansa is key to the North, Tyrion is just a means to link it to the Lannisters that could be fulfilled by any one of the relatives in need be. Using Tyrion is just a convenient way of moving him far away as possible whilst still on a tether.

Moments like this make me question why Tywin defends Tyrion on various occasions but then proceeds to sentence him to death knowing full well he was innocent.
He only cares about Tyrion at all because of how it reflects on House Lannister as a whole. That's why he was willing to go to war with the Vale to get Tyrion back after Catelyn captured him and Lysa imprisoned him. He defends him so that the Lannisters seem united and strong. As soon as Tyrion was deemed guilty, he no longer felt Tyrion had value, and saw an opportunity to get rid of him

His sons actions reflect back on him, Tywin is quite insecure about his public image because his father was a moron which made the lannisters look like morons. Tywin never wanted Tyrion but never had a good reason to kill him without looking like a monster, The killing of Joffrey gave tywin a false narrative that he could use to get rid of him
Here's what I don't understand he didn't want to make him his heir because he was a dwarf and he kept bugging him to give him a grandchild as an heir but I don't think he realizes any child born to tyrion could also be a dwarf.
Tywin was not interested in Tyrions children to be his heir. It was his main interest to have Lannister grandchildren with a strong connection to the ruling family of the north. Since he killed rob, bran and his little brother were considered dead and arya disappeared, sansa was the last children of Eddard stark, the last official lord of Winterfell and warden of the north. Roose Bolton was only named warden of the north until the baby of Sansa and Tyrion becomes old enough to rule.

Most brides wouldn't follow their groom while he is drunk out of his mind like this. But Sansa is used to being humiliated in far worse ways, and at this point she probably started appreciating Tyrion a bit more.

This may be the one time Tywin actually sided with Tyrion and gave him what he wanted... He said no to the bedding ceremony and stood his ground Tywin seen he was serious... Plus you can actually see he was concerned that was treason he definitely was about to lose his head Tywin was worried about him possibly dying that was actually nice... He never got reprimanded for it either so we see Tywin let him have that one that's cool
He got drunk to prevent the consummation with Sansa because he knew it was only so cersei could set up and humiliate him by painting him as some kind of deviant and to have leverage against him.
I only now realized that one of the reasons Tyrion was overplaying how drunk he was, was so that he could use that as the reason why he didn’t impregnate Sansa that night, so that he didn’t take advantage of her.
