Thanks for letting us know the mouse hovering thing, that’s kinda sold me on this unit, so much simpler than having to individually map everything. Nice review
Doesn't the hover only assign the knob one at a time? Or did I miss the hover function allows mapping of all function keys and knobs? I see, you can adjust multiple things one at a time with the hover function. That's actually very clever. The motorized and touch sensitive faders along with the hover function has sold me on this.
Good review - rather fun ---- I have a UC1, UF1, UF8, Fusion, Bus+, Big Six, SSL12 ----- and Reaper - They all work very well together in the mixing/mastering station in my studio.
Do you find yourself using the U series more than the big six? Basically I was set on the big six but am steering towards RME ucxii and this ssl U series.
@@eyesintheskies Yes but I would suggest the SSL12 instead of the RME. Check the status on the converters vis a vis the price. RME is way way overpriced.
I'm using my Komplete Kontrol midi controller, w/ Cubase 12 Pro. Cubase's Remote Control Mapping Feature can setup nearly everything these SSL controllers can do and I can play my MIDI keyboard controller. Not hating either, because I use SSL plugins but this business model is clearly a pivot from large consoles to budget interfaces, plugin subscriptions and over-priced shiny MIDI controllers for money. Smart to go after the small Beginner and Pro-sumer markets, in place of the big studios, which are all but gone. Not knocking their hustle but it's still just MIDI. Great eye candy but this stuff can be accomplished for far less.
Of course…but as a long time user of control surfaces, they absolutely speed up workflow and move you away from the mouse, which from a lot of perspectives is a good thing 👍
@@StudioLife101 Nope. No disagreements there. My point was SSL's suite of controllers are grossly overpriced. You can buy and map, excellent and far less expensive controllers for transport, plugin control and readouts.
I have the UF8 and UC1. For transport, I have the single channel Behringer unit which works great. I can’t believe I am considering spending $600 just to get something to match. But alas. I am. Lol
I've literally got my money ready but it doesn't track follow in Cubase. Massive cock up from SSL. I've been in correspondence with the rep, he agrees. Apparently there's an update on the cards, but until then it's utterly fucking pointless for Cubase users.
There is actually a video where they make a point of reviewing something that is sh*t. *lol* To be fair, there are a number of them. But still.... this is currently my favorite sh*t-show! ;) Absolutely loving it!
Very curious to know if anyone is using the UF1 with Cakewalk/Sonar? I appreciate it's not officially supported, however Sonar does run MCU and so in theory it could still add value. Am I going to be wasting my time and £ if I try out the UF1? Very grateful for any thoughts, thanks. @billhester
